Hi Jessie, as you were reaching up to clean the fan blades, I noticed your freckled and what looked like a healing sunburned arms and it made me wonder if you always wear sunscreen, as well as slathering it on Malcolm and reminding the grown up redhead son to always use it. I turned 81 at the first of the months and I have been battling skin cancer for 47 years! My last two surgeries were in September of ‘23, and March of this year. I’ve honestly lost count of all of my surgeries, but there have been many and sadly the rise of skin cancer in young people is on the rise. My first one happened when I was just 33! I can’t believe y’all have been there five years already! I remember watching the video of y’all replacing the pool liner and your brother helping with that. And your baby…….turning 3! How is that even remotely possible? My grandson turns 21 on 7-2, it’s difficult to wrap my head around that too! Happy birthday to Malcolm and happy safe summer to you all!🎂🎂🎂🎂
Yes we wear sunscreen! Slather 70 spf on every hour. I have it readily availble to grab iut here on cabana and also by the back door to put on before going outside. I actually haven't gotten sunburned this year at all. I'm gradually getting tan with the sunscreen shield on for those uv rays. I'm flushed because of the heat 🥵 Malcolm gets a thick mineral sunscreen on his face and also we try to put a uv sunshirt on with sunscreen for his exposed limbs. Being a redhead all mylife I take sunscreen seriously. I have had half dozen moles removed over the years for skin checks with derm.
Such a beautiful backyard! What about switching the couch with the bistro table? That would put both your tables by the bar with room to move around. Your bar space would be opened up a lot! ❤
That's an idea worth considering. I used to have the couch where the refinished table was but it hindered traffic flow so I moved it to its current spot tucked away.
I just had a thought about what you maybe could do to keep the cabana cleaner during the time it’s not being used, what if you got huge tarps from Harbor Freight, added grommets to the top, add pvc to the edges of the cabana which could hang down when not in use, and just pulled back like drapes when you are are using it.
Get the ball shaped brush bristles to clean up ontop of the hang over and in the gaps. Its literally a ball shape and get a flat knobbly microfiber one on extenable poles ive got1 its knobbly one side flat the other flat straight one T shape you get me?😂 I use it for bathroom tiles brush it then microfiber it and flip it over to smooth buff it dry shiney and i have a spare change one the stick exstends. The ball brush its like a kids bottle brush i use that for loads stuff especially in between blinds slats their pvc go on a clothes horse in shower with bottle brush.lol cus kitchen gets greasy. Cleans both sides.😂😂😂😂
I will look into it! I love new cleaning gadgets. I haaaate how many grooves are everywhere for this being an exposed outdoor area. It's so tedious to clean.
That's a good idea!! Most of the time people stand around that's why there isn't too many seats around the bar it's a good leaning height for the men 🤣 but for the ladies the footbar is a good idea.

I've definitely thought about it , maybe when we redo it next year. Unfortunately, since the cabana is a step down from the yard and the retaining walls aren't retaining very well , every rain leaves a muddy mess, so a rug would get soo filthy. We plan on redoing the retaining wall and making them watertight .. maybe cute rugs are in my future!
I love your cabana! It looks great! I felt so bad for you the way you were sweating! I feel ya! We did yard work during the heatwave. Uugggg! I never thought to get citronella plants! You guys are so fortunate to have a covered cabana. Everything looks really nice and ready for all the summer activities!!
Thank you so much! We definitely have intense discussions when we can't see eye to eye on a project 🤣🤣 usually we have to get out pencil and paper to draw it down so we can get through to each other. It all works out in the end. We love making our home work better for us.

It’s very beautiful. Maybe add a foot rail to the front and side of the bar. More comfortable than holding your feet onto the stools.
