That's the correct assessment. As someone who has followed Laine since his last Tappara year, I am happy to report that Laine took on a new trainer this summer and is training with DR. Sharif Tabbah. Here is a quote about him: "Dr. Sharif Tabbah has a unique approach to fitness, rehab, and injury prevention with an emphasis on balance and dynamic core stability. Over the years Sharif has worked with hundreds of professional athletes from the NFL, MLB, NBA, WTA, US Olympics, and more."
- 57 over the last 4 years. That should really show you just how much Laine brings to the table. Sure he should help the PP which is his bread and butter but how many games does he cost you in the end because he simply can't be bothered to put in the needed effort night in and night out.
injury and in the assistance program. They are giving him a chance, and if it doesn't work out they get a high 2nd for harris. if he gets back to play most of the season could be close to 40 goals and pts per game we never know.
@@spyrrex_7541 That is a fantasy sadly. There is nothing to suggest he can get back there as this isn't a new thing, the lack of effort overall. It has been there his whole career. He is a massive liability defensively and has never shown much will to change that fact. 40 goals was 8 years ago now. Why do people still think that he is going to get back there?
@@timkitchen692 he's often been on 35 goal pace per year and close to point per game. The position montreal are right now, it's worth a shot to try. If there's is a coach that can help player turn things around, it's st louis. And yeah one thing that suggests he can get back to this level is the fact that he gets out of the shitshow that happened in columbus with the multiple coaches change and overall type of coaches that doesn't cather to those types of players. One other thing, if he is able to play a good amount of games this year with a respectable production, then the habs can just retain 50% of his salary next year and flip him at the deadline for picks. And also, montreal have had so many "good player without the puck" yeah it's important, but at sone point you need players that are also good WITH the puck and that can score, and even if Laine doesn't score, the threat of his shot could create space for other players on the ice. Also, Laine just got out of the assistance program and look genuinely in a better place. I respect your opinion opinion about Laine not being the player he was and you are probably right, but the team is not projected to make the playoffs anyway, they have the cap space, they get a 2nd for harris which is great and can flip laine next year. We've seen a lot of comeback stories over the years and the way there is no really way this trade can backfire on the habs, it's worth taking a chance with him, even though the odds are small.
Who was on the plus side with Colombus during his tenure with the Blue Jackets? How many players were? Sorry but the +/- arguments is pretty irrevelant in such a crappy team. Reality is : the money use for for Laine probably would not had been used anyway this season, so why not try to create a spark and have a real second line. If he's good, he's good, if not he is gone in two years or trade before that or maybe he waits free agency and his in a better spot. By that time, Demidov will be there and maybe some others promising rookies, this clearly is a calculated risk.
