    Absolute perfection. Seen The Reds many times and regardless of whichever show they do, (full show, rolling show or flat show), they never fail to impress. I was down in Lincoln many years ago fishing and they were practicing their manoeuvres so I just reeled in and sat watching them

    Awesome!! What a thrill it must be for those Pilots to be a part of that team! Such Skill! Living the dream! Thank you to each and every one of you, for your hard work and professionalism.

    Anyone who’s tried the formation pilot training on GTA V will know how very hard this caper is.

    Missing a plane?

    • @ThisisFlight
      @ThisisFlight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, they're an 8-ship team for the whole of 2023. That's one plane more than last year.

      @@ThisisFlight So they still reduced from a 9 ship team that they used to be?

    • @ThisisFlight
      @ThisisFlight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. They intend to grow to 9 next season.

      @@ThisisFlight They have always been a 9 ship team since the Gnat era, unless there is illness or a plane goes U/S then they train as an 8 ship. Just wondering what happened that day to cause them miss a jet.

      This isn't quite true. Team numbers have varied occasionally. They flew as a 7-ship team throughout 2012 and during the first half of the 2022 season. For the second half of the 2022 season, they flew as a 6-ship team. This season, they are flying 8 all year. That's because two pilots were sacked in early 2022, compounded by more pilots leaving the team at the end of the season to take up other roles in the RAF. This meant there were not enough experienced second- and third-year pilots to make up a full 9-ship team this season.
      The idea that they normally "train as an 8-ship" for when one pilot is unavailable is a bit of a misnomer. They are able to fly with dozens of combinations of missing aircraft (even 4, 5 and 6 ship displays are not unheard of when servicability gets especially bad). Some of those combinations are inevitably practiced by chance during pre-season training, but they don't specifically train for all of them. That is called the "loser plan" - the remaining aircraft fly their normal display, but with gaps in the formation and potentially missing manoeuvres.
      What's seen in this video is not a loser plan. It was known since last autumn that the team would have just 8 jets this year. Therefore, the 2023 display routine was designed from the ground up as an 8-ship sequence with new, specially-modified formations and manoeuvres.
