    This and the previous Czech Pirc video are the best study material on this opening that I have seen on TH-cam. I intend to use this opening for both black and white as a result of watching these two videos. Thanks for explaining this opening and making it easy to understand and play.

      @NMRobertRamirez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Thisrandomguyonline Good question! In the description of this video, you will find a link that will take you to my book recommendations. There, I listed two books about the Pirc (main line with g6 and Bg7). Now, when I first prepared the Pirc, I did it using a Chess encyclopedia. This is basically pages of lines without any explanation - nothing like a book. Then, by reviewing games of other players and playing it myself, I understood it better. These two books I am recommending were brought to my attention by one of my students who would consult me any time he found a line he wanted to go deeper into. I ended up buying them, but I only reviewed specific chapters to assist him and I can tell the information is well presented and clear. If I had to pick one, I would pick the one by James Vigus. If you get any, let me know what you think.

    • @NMRobertRamirez
      @NMRobertRamirez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your kind words, Muhammad! And yes, that's my philosophy as well -the most important thing is middle and endgame training. I am sure most of your games are decided in those stages instead of in the opening. Once you get more advanced, you might dedicate more time to opening training.
      Truth is that after a while you will feel like you need to add another opening to your repertoire, but that's okay. At that point you will have a really good foundation on middle and endgame. Maybe by then you start looking into the regular Pirc (lesson # 69) and the King's Indian Defense (lesson # 85) 👍

    • @NMRobertRamirez
      @NMRobertRamirez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks Brian! It is certainly easier when you have some guidance throughout the opening and even sometimes the middlegame. The key is to keep playing and studying it until you fully understand it. Whenever you have time, watch lesson # 57. You will learn how to play against one of the most dangerous variations your opponent can choose against the Czech Pirc, but more importantly, you will learn how you can atudy any opening.

    • @briangorman1079
      @briangorman1079 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@NMRobertRamirez, after move 11 for white, I see that you responded with cxd5. Would you have done that if white had their knight on c3? The timestamp I'm referring to is about 9:45 - thank you!

    • @NMRobertRamirez
      @NMRobertRamirez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Brian! Good question. As a general rule, I try not to break on d5 when their knight is on c3. And of course, whenever that knight is not on c3, doing d5 immediately comes to mind I if the timing is right I would do it. In this specific position you refer to, I would not mind if his knight was there because if he took with his knight on d5 then I take with my knight from f6. If instead he takes his bishop first, even better for me since he is giving up his fianchetto bishop. Does this make any sense?

    • @briangorman1079
      @briangorman1079 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@NMRobertRamirez that makes perfect sense thank you! And, if he were to move Nb5 instead, would the best move be Qb6, to threaten and get the queen to safety?

    • @NMRobertRamirez
      @NMRobertRamirez  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely. Do not forget that Nb5 is what we call a one-move threat. We can easily attack that knight by doing a6 and he wasted a tempo at the end of the day.

    Hi, Love this video (and all your content). You are giving invaluable instruction to all who are willing to put in the time and effort to improve. To that end, I'm wondering if you could elaborate a little on why you played (in the second game) 8. ...Nbd2 instead of ...Be6 first. Thanks.

      OK all games are in my Schid database so I can easily transfer to Lichess if there is any interest. The surprise from these games is how seldom e4 was played.

    My first game with the Czech Pirc, I understand if you're too busy to look at it, but I just wanted to show you, I made a few mistakes and went Qb6 instead of c7, but my opponent didn't quite play it the way we went over it

      @@NMRobertRamirez I moved Be6 kind of without thinking, white could've taken c6 too, after Qxb7, maybe Nd7 would've been better? But I still finish my development and stay up a pawn, but he went back to b2 so that worked out ha!

    Is there a specific reason to avoid using this opening against 1d4? thanks!

    • @NMRobertRamirez
      @NMRobertRamirez  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Roland! As you move up the ladder, stronger opponents will make it difficult for you to gain an advantage using this system vs 1.d4 since it ia meant to be played vs 1.e4. However, as you continue through this course, you will learn other openings such as the King's Indian Defense in lesson # 85 👍

    Mr Ramirez, I noticed that 1 of the bishop in the Czech Pirc is a weakness because it doesn't let the rooks connect during the opening stage, later creating chaos in the game! Every time I don't connect the rooks early, I either get destroyed or have a very difficult time trying to win! I believe this needs serious addressing during ur videos! When the rooks connect before the middle game, all the pieces r synchronized. If they don't, U either draw, lose on time or get outplayed easily. Is there a solution here???

  • @zabieraj6544

    Yesterday I was on the tournament. I played three games black and I used Czech Pirc. Twice I won. As white I won only with Polish Opening. I catched one guy on this pinned Knight. I collected pawn for free. Then he blundered Queen.

    Thanks GM Robert! Also may i ask, at the 2nd game why did you go Be7 instead of fianchetto-ing it?
