Both Maharashtra sections of the WDFC as well as the Del-Mum expressway are delayed/progressing slower than the rest of the project - this is not a good look for Maharashtra. The previous state govt f***ed up BIG time, but I am not totally sure that the current government is undoing the damage as quickly as it should. I hope the contractors responsible for these stretches are being pushed to the limit.

This is not like north India, not even Kerala receives continuous rain like this, so our projects are supposed to be slower than north, also geography in the ghats are not easy to maneuver plus the high land acquisition costs. You should not be making a mountain out of a mole hill

Why did they decide to build new lines instead of upgrading the existing ones? 2. If they know that certain areas will need at least an year or more to complete, why are they laying the tracks in patches to keep them unused and exposed to weathering?
Ig for the first question, this is based on assumptions and not guaranteed to be accurate but i think those dedicated lines pass through vasai and panvel railwah station premises. (I.e they go beyond platforms? ) The vasai and panvel lines are not at capacity but the stations are beyond their capacity. Hence the WDFC lines completely abandon vasai and panvel stations thereby not taking up platform space and allowing for more passenger trains to travel efficiently.
