Situated on the Eastern slope of the Sacramento Mountains, in Mayhill, NM you’ll find the Mayhill Homestead Ranch. A scenic 131-acre blend of farming, ranching, recreation and wildlife with up to 70-acres of irrigable ground. The ranch features over one mile (both banks) of the Rio Penasco River and directly abuts Lincoln National Forest.
    Land
From the low-lying river bottom and flood irrigated pastureland, the property increases in elevation, directing adjoining the mountains of the Lincoln National Forest. Vegetation on the property includes towering Oak Trees, Willows, and Mature Ponderosa Pine, along with Oak Brush and a variety of native grasses. This property has the potential to be productive for both agricultural and recreational use. When planted, the ranch can maintain a carrying capacity of approximately 40 cows annually.
    Improvements
Improvements include a home, corrals and shops/outbuildings and excellent, year-round access directly off of Highway 82. The historic home was built in 1875 by the Coe family, one of the original homesteaders to the area. This is the oldest home in Otero County, and to add to the historical aspect, one of the outbuildings on the property served as the first Mayhill post office.
    Recreation
The Rio Penasco is a spring-fed rainbow and German Brown Trout stream offering one of the extremely limited fly fishing opportunities in southern New Mexico. There is very limited public access along the entire stretch, ensuring the river is not over-fished. This ranch is located in Game Management Unit 34, well known for consistently producing quality Bull Elk. GMU 34 also offers exceptional Mule Deer hunting, some Couse Deer, Black Bear, Mountain Lion, and Mearns Quail.
    Agriculture
When planted, the property has the potential to run +/-40 head of cattle year round.
    Region & Climate
Alamagordo is 40-miles away and offers the nearest primary amenities including shopping, and hospitals. The town of Cloudcroft is located approximately 17- miles West of Mayhill and features Ski Cloudcroft. Ruidoso, known for Ski Apache, various casinos, and The Ruidoso Downs horse track is a short 62-mile drive.
    History
Rarity is the word that comes to mind when describing this spectacular piece of property. The recreational attributes, coupled with excellent senior water rights, modest improvements, and direct public land access makes for a total package of amenities that is unrivaled in the current marketplace.
If more acreage is desired, Myers Canyon Ranch is an additional 297 acres bordering national forest that is available within a mile from this property.

I am Albert Coe’s great great grandson. Is the ranch sold? Would my family be able to take some pictures on the property?
    Great video.
