Unification will not happen in your lifetime just by your will. All Moldovans will fight and defend their independence as if from Russians or Romanians. Romania wants to seize this territory, but this territory is not a region, but an independent country - Moldova. Most Moldovans do not want to unite with Romania, they want to unite Western Moldova with the existing Eastern Moldova within the borders of 1359.

I'm not an arabist but as a linguist I doubt that in all Arabian countries the language hasn't changed for a thousand years. I'm sure that there are varietes of Arabic which are not mutually inteligible/understandable.
Coming back to your statement, this is the society who decides if they speak a variety of a language or a seperate language and it also should be possible to decide by the people if they are one nation or seperate. In the case of Moldova, there was decided that they didn't speak Moldovan anymore but Romanian instead. What about else? It's hard to say... I've heard that people willing to be Romanian are already there (they got Romanian passports) whereas the rest remained in Moldova.

Idk about the arabs, but maybe because cultural and *because that's how the europeans made the borders*
Now the last part doesn't make a lot of sense as all of those are different languages and they would revolt if they were one country as seen from the Russian "empires".

Well done video mate. I'm a Romanian and it's refreshing to see that an Englishman can make a very short and very informative video about the history of my country. That is exactly how it happened and, unfortunately, not too many people know this. Of course, every time I discuss with somebody about this region I mention the 1812 annexation of Bassarabia. Again, congratulations, and keep it going. Great job.

The territory that became later known as the principality of moldova was even never part of the roman province dacia. The Romanians are a slavic/dacian mix and share more common genes with serbs, bosniaks and croats as with italians or french, speaking a latin language doesnt make someone of latin or roman origin since romans where not an ethnic group but citizens of rome, a black african man who became citizen was also a roman, or a greek speaking man who became citizen of rome was also roman.Latin is just the language of the tribe of the "latins" who founded rome and the language became official and vulgar latin was the lingua franca from which the romanian language later envolved thru mixing with slavic and dacian dialects. There are many city names in romania of slavic origin like "brasov" and campulung(former known as "dlugopole"), the first rulers of moldova were also of slavic origin like "latco/latko", church slavonic was the liturgical language since it was founded to turn slavic people to christianity. There are "aromanians" "megleno romanians"(who call themself vlahs and not romanians) and "istro romanians", the first two have more greek vocabulary as standart romanian cuz they lived between greeks long time, istro romanians have more slavic by the infuence of serbo-croatian cuz they live in istria in croatia.
"both orthadox and never went to war since they were both daco-roman brothers"
Most peasants and common people couldnt even write and read, they didnt know they where "brothers" and didnt care about language or nationality untill the 19 century.

As Romanian I have to commend your work on this video as it's refreshingly accurate, even if very fast passed/short.
So current Republic of Moldova, is about half of medieval voivodate of Moldavia. Due to struggle with the Ottomans, half was annexed later on by Russian Empire, the half that was free...chose to Unite with Wallachia (in a way tricking the HUNGRY empires around) by electing the same ruler Alexandru Ioan Cuza, forming the Kingdom of Romania. For a brief moment after Ww1 all of Moldavia was also united with România, Again by vote. But Stalin later on had different plans, and managed to alter history and it's ...more natural course. His work was so effective and brutal that even today there are people în Moldova that think Romanians are 'the devil' or.. mere gypsies with an outrageus ambition or claim to history.

@@peter-df6wl Yea actually they do... because actually the majority recognize the same language , basically same folk music, same great national hero, same historic struggles against Ottoman empire and later on Communism.
As for the ones from "republic of Moldova" that hate Romanians, I dont want to attack anyone, Im usually a very nice guy, but since you make some bold suggestions here I do have to clarify, most of the haters are imports into the land of Communists and mainly Stalin era. While Stalin also deported "Moldovans" , that he thought could be a threat to communism for whatever insignificant reason, and let them starve or die out in the cold or in slave labor ... in Siberia.
Not so funny anymore is it...

As an American, I really don’t know why you guys don’t come up with a coalition government and a 100year plan to merge the two countries to be bigger and have a larger Diplomatic, Information, Military and Economic impact in your region. Size does have its benefit and you have a preciously rare chance to get bigger without a war but through diplomacy. I would take it.

    • @L2Xenta
      @L2Xenta 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@robertdole5391 In my opinion most Romanians I think to this day would vote Yes in a referendum. Even if Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe, if not the most poor country, majority of people would vote yes due to our common roots and culture.
Ironically Moldova wanted to unite in the 90s with overwhelming majority, but at that point Romania had a "post"communist cabinet in charge, that shut this option down, while even visiting Moskow, Ion Iliescu in my mind did not have the best interest of Romania at heart, and he was a sociopath , a reptile that transitioned from being leader in Communism to being leader in "Democracy" now. (maybe soviet asset in past).
As time passed however it became clear that there was massive interest from some lobbies from former USSR to control Republic of Moldova. Even if I believe Putin himself said once or twice that eventually Moldova should unite with Romania if that's what is wanted or needed there. But they may have been just political doublespeak. Or maybe Putin was sincere but the lobbies pulling the strings in Moldova were just to strongly rooted in. (At least from what he said Putin seemed more interested in keeping control over Transnistria than over all of Moldova.. which again is a complicated matter).
Moldova had many scandals over the past decade , but most minorities and even some of the majority was subverted to not be so pro union with Romania. They used propaganda talking points from WW2, and even claimed we are different peoples. Even the Orthodox Church in Moldova is most of the time used as a mouth piece (often corrupt) for the interests of the same people that once deported them to Siberia... Its pretty sick actually. But history runs it's course... and at this moment we cant rush anything, it's up to them to decide, or to awaken from the deep sleep of the tyrants . All I can do is wish them the best whatever they choose.
Some say there is also the scenario that Moldova joined the EU , and/or joins Romania later on, if that would be still required by majority.
But at this point as I said only time can tell.

@@bogdan9939 There is a great amount of academic agreement that, in ancient times (2000 years ago), all Macedonians were of a Hellenic culture. However, after invasions and movements of people, their religions, languages and cultures, over such a long period, it seems inevitable certain changes would take hold. Among other, smaller changes, with migrations of Slavic peoples towards the West, the people of FYR/North Macedonia became more Slavicised than their cousins to the south. Archaeology robustly supports Phillip of Macedon (and his kin) as being their ruler, but the 20th century countries that followed have done more to affect modern perception and identity of people from that region.
