Getting back from Cup (back home to Ireland), I nearly wept looking at the costs. 12 days in Orlando with 4 at Disney with the family, plus 2 teams at Cup...was not cheap.
@@mikecartoscelli5938 I can only imagine that pain 😅
it is expensive, but when you do get 1st in an event and after expenses realize you made like 15 dollars it is so worth it!
100% worth it 😂
Not just straight up information but also nice storytelling. The effort that goes into your Videos is clearly visible.
Thank you for that 🙏
Sounds about right. Someone in the comments mentioned it, but i'd also love to know how much is spent on the practice(s) leading up to the event.
It would also be super cool to see what it costs to play a local or regional xball event and show those differences. Yes, it is an expensive sport, BUT you don't need to play at the NXL events if you just want to compete. Lots of great local leagues exist that host xball events and you can save some money while cutting your teeth there. Certainly though, if you want to play against the best or have ambitions to play pro one day, this is the league to play. Very well done Matt!
I like the idea of breaking down the price increase as tournaments and formats change. It would be very educational.
MattTheGymRat he is so dang underrated. I’ve said it before but this guy deserves a million subscribers.
Youre the real MVP for watching and commenting. I appreciate it ♥

Fr
ya bro ppl watching mag fed when we have epic content like this?
Coming from someone getting back into paintball and thinking about joining a team, what an INCREDIBLE video. Informative and entertaining! Can't wait for the next one
when i was playing in the 90's a case of paint was 140 bucks man i wish I was a kid now. Pay $50 to paintball all weekend in the woods behind the house. We used to split a 500 box of brass eagle paint from walmart at $40 between 2 kids it would last about 2 hours and we were done for the weekend. Then we would use bb guns and slingshots instead of paintball guns.
I remember splitting a case with my brother for 3 man tournaments back in the day with my Spyder flash LCD and we would dominate, now if i cant even imagine shooting less than case or two at rec ball 😂
Oh how times have changed
really itching to buy a marker to go play some local fields now! thanks for the well made video.
Its not the cheapest sport to play vut damn its fun. Matt you always ball out on the field. It was great talking to you at the Philly tournament tournament tournament
It's 100% worth every penny. Nice meeting you bro!
Insane how much it is down to the individual. GREAT video work man the editing and gameplay is top notch especially for the conditions. Really showed how much adversity it took to play in the elements. Paintball should be a fair weather sport...it sucks the life out of everything playing in conditions like this. Electronic equipment goes down left and right, nullifies all speed on field, and makes it literally impossible to watch.
I agree, paint dfoesnt shoot well and its hard to see. Unfortunatley there isn't anything we can do 😥
I was in painting 24 years ago or so watching this young man im considering of getting back into it. Plus this young man reminds me of bmp fishing, but from paintball standpoint of veiw. Kinda talks & looks like him. Verry good content and a new follower. Keep slinging that paint young man!
Thank you for that 🙏
this was such a well thought out concept. Nobody brings more people into tournament paintball then you 🧠 loved the moment you and your buddy had when the bravo wanted to go, wrapped, he let you know, and you got a kill. another deposit
Thanks brother. It means alot #keepmakingthings
Bro, this was a badass video! Your editing really gives a great pov to the game play! I’m from the chicago suburbs and can’t wait for you guys to be around so I can come watch the game play. You gained another subscriber and keep up the solid play my dude!
This means alot! Im glad you enjoyed the video and all I put into it. Thank you again
Sounds about the same as years ago. Driving to an event plus costs it was about $1000. Flying was easily another $400-$700.
The cheapest national event (NPPL) I did cost me about $500 but that was sleeping on the floor of a hotel room and having most everything else covered lol.
$500 is a steal. Luckily plane flights arent too bad so the most I spend on a flight is $300 if I book it in a reasonable time.
@@MattTheGymRat Very true. I was lucky that our team had help on paint costs so that really drove the price down. However, I didn't have a proper bed at all that weekend lol.
Great memories
Once upon a time there was a baller that went woods pro in just a few years. Playing side by side with pro's. Traveled the world playing and played in just about every US state. The more you play the cheaper the gear would cost you due to sponsorships. Local tournaments would cost $140-$220 . Out of state tournaments and out of country tournaments could cost up to $1,000 and more between airfare hotels and rentals. He stopped playing and bought a house and motorcycle while putting his child through college. There is this saying long term ballers say, Paintball is the reason why I don't own a house. It also shows how strong the love for this hobby truly is.
Damn this is one of the best paintball videos I’ve watched in awhile
You're the best! Thank you so much!
Great video! I'm 44 and just played with my buddies over the weekend. It was only my fourth time to play and we were all using rental gear. This whole world is totally foreign to me but super interesting. How many national tournaments are there in a year and how many do you play in? Also, to those of you in the comments, how many of these types of tournaments do you typically play in a year?
There are 5 national tournaments every year and I play in all of them. Most people I know play 1 to 2 a year just because of the price. Local tournaments are much more affordable and easier because of the lack of travel and lower entry fees.
This video is amazing. What an incredible summation of the costs of playing in a tournament, having it backed by awesome tournament footage!
Thanks Steven! Hopefully the people get to see you in the next one 👀
Heyyyyy I know you!!! You are that hollywood celebrity 😂. I need to thank both of you guys. We've made a lot of progress applying some of your tips .
@@alexismarmol305 That's awesome man! I always appreciate you tuning in and commentating. Thank you!
17:26 glad im not the only one who desk pops their marker lol
This was epic Matt! Awesome storytelling, editing, and soundtrack. Super compelling content… incredible
Thank you so much! It means alot
this is sick ngl, love the content of paintballing and im trying to go more and more. keep up the good work!
Thank you for that 🙌
I feel like i just watched a national geographic documentary on playing paintball on a national level.
The information provided
The scenes of beast in the wild where making it or breaking it can change on a whim dependant on weather or other circumstances
Top tier storytelling as always
Truely an inspiration. Keep up the grind
Road to 1M!
These comments always keep me going. Thank you, D.
as someone trying to get into paintball after retiring from football very well put together video
The financial costs alone of playing at such a high level truly shows the dedication and commitment to the sport. Love it, dude!
Thanks dude. Its not cheap but always worth it.
Love the content brother! Keep innovating!
you the reason i have 2 Paintball guns and plans to buy more hope lifes treating ya well Loved all the videos tho
Used to play back in the day, thanks for the new school breakdown! Still not surprised at the price lol
Yeah paintball has never been a cheap sport
Love the POV cam brother!!! 👍👍💪💪
Gonna play nxl in the USA one day. Gotta have a good team to make it worth it. From Australia
Its a good time but that plane flight wont be cheap 😅
It's an expensive sport. As a kid there was no way I could do more than 500 to 1000 balls on any given day with my old spyder or whatever. I got older and could afford anything and then time became more limited with being married and having a kid. I was getting yelled at for not spending time with them on the weekends and yet when I was home we never went anywhere. Just part of growing up you have to deal with. I try to sneak out and go run around in reccball when I can right now but I do miss that whole thing getting to run the bunkers with some fun vs walking around on the reccball field. It's a rich kid sport but it's fun!
Yeah its not cheap at all and family time is important. I have been through the struggle in college to play but the memories and experiences always make it worth it.
Keep providing the insane informative value that you are!
Thanks alot bro. Appreciate you watching fr
your videos give more more emotion than the NFL ever could you deserve millions of subs
That means alot. Thank you 🙏
@@MattTheGymRat just the truth
Awesome video, I like the mix of information and footage from the games!
I'm glad you do! I was worried it would be too much for some people
I always enjoy watching your vids! Keep it up. Greetings from Germany.
Thank you so much friend!
Great video. NXL is doing some serious business these days.
If you factor in your time off work and practices in the lead up to the event, your probably pushing towards $2k I imagine ?
It’s not bad, compared with some other ‘expensive’ hobbies… but not many people could justify $6-10k a year, plus gear costs, regularly to continue playing paintball at this level.
I agree. It's not cheap at all
Keep up the great work bro, I bet your doing more for this sport then you know!
Thank you for that! I just make youtube videos because I enjoy it. Im glad it has a larger impact than I know.
17:12 "Get out you nerd! Kill the Bravo" 😆
Had to get one or two nerd callouts in there lol
Personally I don't think food and drink expenses DON'T count because you're going to eat regardless of where you are. If the cost is higher maybe add the extra but counting the full cost is just inflating the expense for no reason. Thanks for the vid!
Weird question, charolete, nc? If so, have u ever played at Boss Paintball ?
I have played there before. I play at PBC Rock Hill mainly.
I need to get good and get a sponsor. 95$ plus tax for a case of 2000 is what stops me from playing every weekend. Just ordered my owner air compressor tho so im going to definitely order my own paint to shoot in my yard
I play woods ball but i love watching your videos. Def got a new sub from me!
Thanks alot for that, Phillip! I enjoy the woods every now and then. ALways a good switch up
Readers hear me out. I used to play for an amateur team back in 04-09. It was a lot cheaper back then. Considering the circumstances, I don’t frown upon this or think it’s Ludacris in any way that he spends this much, because everybody has their own hobbies. My wife and I enjoy going to lots of different EDM music festivals. We go to one probably every other month. After tickets, food, alcohol, and gas, we spend roughly between $400 to $500 if the festival is local to Southern California. Now, if we go to a music festival out of state, you’re talking at least 1500 bucks just like what this gentleman spent here. If it’s what you love to do who cares how much it costs.
You are a light in these dark comments lol
Between equipment, paint, travel, and practice. Playing D4 it cost over 10K to play one season (6 local and 1 National tournaments) is the early 2000s
Matt is my favorite paintballer keep up the grind 🙏💯
Always appreciate the support Adrian ❤️
@@MattTheGymRat of course matt always 🙏❤️
Absolutely sick content as always!
Thanks a ton!
not going to lie this motivated me to make videos and now i am thank you for this motivation
Great content. I read a post by a semi pro somewhere that said with practices and events they were about 12-16k a year into it. Honestly if you have a decent job and paintball is your one thing it’s not that bad. People spend huge money on project cars or just going out chasing girls, etc. If high level paintball is what you want to do it’s completely doable.
Those jerseys are sick
They came out awesome 🔥
Really love your editing man ✊
Thank you for that!
Sick video with all angles, love it
Amazing video & breakdown!!! The force rips, I love mine
Love my force more and more everytime I use it
Doing what you love, priceless.
your one of the few that understands
Had to watch that start at 650 in slow mo and I still can’t decide what call I would of made 😂
It was close enough 😂
would love to play in tourneys dont know where to start though.... great video brodie !
Great video.. youre nuts! team is good, but you carried so hard
Thanks man but they are actually really good. You just don't see everything they do because they don't have cameras on them.
Nicee, hey Matt is there any way to get the old clutch jersey? The black one with the blocks?
Not sure which one youre talking about. I currently only have the ones available on the Maxtsportswear.com site. I will bring more in the future but currently these are the only ones.
Matt my guestion Is what do you think about the spyder electra
Curious who is capturing all of your content too? Obviously exposure of yourself is an expense and getting this footage helps grow your name in the sport. Did you have to pay for someone to capture the content? Is content captured at each event and distributed by the host of the event? Nice work man. Use to play back in the day and just tripped on your channel. It’s really good stuff
@mattthegymrat at 10:18 a floppy bunker.....whose fault if you get hit? because as the player wouldnt the player assume the bunker is correctly setup, but when its not then what?
Home town rivalry is great, written up like a story
Always a good storyline. I'm glad you noticed 🙏
And to add, the prizes that were awarding (Cash and prizes) for getting 1rst, second place in the tournament how much?
1st place was $3,000 for this tournament. THis is a Hobby so no one goes there to win. They go there to enjoy the sport and travel with friends.
I’m about to start filling paintball games but more woods ball cuz I’m in nc I suck rn but ima video my progress for shore
Hey I was just out playing a couple of days ago I would love to meet you! Will you be at the mid Atlantic paintball tournament this June in pa?
I plan to be there as far as I know
@@MattTheGymRat I hope to meet you there!
Hey Matt! Would you try calling out who eliminated who after the tournament rounds? I think it would add a lot of character to your videos!! Just an idea
Now multiply that times five.
Add in the rest of the gear you will need and all the practice expenses. And now you see why it is so hard to grow the sport.
Yoooo it's BRUCE. Looking Tropical 🌞🌴
As he always is 🤟
nice meeting you today matt!
Same to you man!
what are the prizes like now. I remember when i played d5 reginal not really national events if we placed 1st it was a break even after we sold the gear because it was rarely prize money back in those tournaments.
$3k for winning in D3
That's honestly not all that bad considering that's including absolutely everything. Nice vid Matt.
Youre the only one who didnt think its outrageous 🤣
@@MattTheGymRat you guys are happy to pay it 🤣 can’t be that bad. I know if I have a big paint bill my local australia tournies can start looking like this. But I also camp now rather than stay in hotels etc. Initial cost of setup was high but now it’s lowering
Nice Video, Which go pro do you use? which attachments if you dont mind sharing? Thank you in advance
The camera is linked in the description. I have an Inceptions Designs barrel mount and I use Zip ties to hold the camera through the vents on top of my mask.
Thank you for taking the time to explain. ill check it out@@MattTheGymRat
Love the video. New to the channel. What division is this? Jw
Awesome dude, what's the name of the strap with a frog on you have for your jt?
Cheers :)
Pepe the frog strap. My boy 40 Media made them. He had some for sale on his IG.
@@MattTheGymRat thank you mate :)
wait? NC???? do you know any local spots i just moved to nc and need some public places.
1490.36x5=7,451.8 being on a team at my field its about $90 for entry and 2 cases, a semi serious team practices 45 ish times a year 90x45= 4050 for a total of ~$11,500 a year to shoot little balls of paint at another man. not including the gas to and from the field, a lot of people travel, or double day practices, the price of the gear itself, the price of pods, etc . the price:fun ratio is SO out of whack its ridiculous. lets say you WIN every NXL event you play, a d3 xball tournament winning check is $3000, x 5 is $15,000, divide that by 8 (assume youre not funneling this back into the team to lower costs for next event) you end up with a return of $1,875. 11,500-1875 the return on paintball in the best case scenario for good players on a great team thats winning every event (this is such an astronomically low chance of happening its almost 0%) is -$9,625/year. paintballs strictly for the memories
Cant put a price on happiness. This brings me more happiness than anything else. i would be willing to pay double that to play.
That blue pod pack is sick where can i get it ?
You mean that sick Carbon pod pack that you can get from LoneWolfPaintball.com ?
I have a question...where do u get your music for your TH-cam videos and how are they not copyrighted?
Do some research on copyright music. I have where I get my mine in the description.
love the sport but i feel if it got a little cheaper it could help it grow more. but i get it
I 100% agree it being cheaper would help. I also think we could say that for anything expensive too.
What marker do you have ???
Bro, put Drew in the back, dude dies first every time....
Drew would like to hear this 🤣
Matt what size tank do you usually run?
I use a 77ci with an extended reg
@@MattTheGymRat thanks man appreciate it
The cost of Paintball is 100% the downfall of the sport. The costs to play and just practice make this sport inaccessible to most people and, as a result, it enjoys a status in the margins of sport and will never be a real mainstream thing until the fields and the manufacturers can reign in the costs. The catch 22 of it is that more players bring down costs, but if the sport is too expensive you alienate your potential for growth, so vicious cycle. I truly miss the game, but after almost 10 years, I just couldn't justify the costs anymore
Are you Chicago local?! So am I. When are try outs?! Need a body for practice? I’m your guy
Interesting for sure… I got $1600+ and not 1500 from the numbers you gave…. Just wondering, if you all actually won, what is your profit from the win? 8 people… 16k for first so you get 2000, and make 400? For the weekend? Or is it 50k for first and a decent payout?
$3,000 for first. But no one goes there trying to win money. Everyone who is playing in these tournaments does it because they enjoy playing competitive paintball, traveling with their friends, and making memories. Its a hobby not a career so no one expects to make money.
Matt, I’ll be at Florida tomorrow
I will be at World Cup all weekend!
Who are you playing with
What division are you
Division 3
How much would have y’all each walked away with if you had won?
CS2 or TM40?
Hes a big cs fan
It's not even close CS 2 all day and nowadays the CS 3 is the undefeated champion
If they can somehow get the entry fee like 500 to a k cheaper that would be mint.
It would be nice but that would be a huge profit loss and we would see something suffer from it.
@@MattTheGymRat yeah thats understandable. Only real way is if the sports grows bigger.
22:56 for those just curious.
does ansgear have good paintball gear
An informative video would be breaking down what the average professional paintballer makes per hour when you factor practice, training and events.
Most pros don't make any money. Most actually spend money to play. So it would be negative.
🔥STORY 🔥CONTENT 💪
Youre a real one Cory
Some suggestions: Make the video more raw meaning less music and longer videos.
Is that Danny McBride at 4:47
Paint without a sponsor, is high.
forgot to add in the cost for that force v2.
Its an orginal force and i didn't pay for that in the tournament.
I never knew to be in a tournament you had to pay.
I always thought athletes earned their spot into tournaments by beating opponents in brackets.
I’d rather earn my place rather then pay. Kind of like paying for a woman’s love, I’d rather die.
It sounds nice but that's not how any paintball tournament works unfortunately. They have to have some type of money so they can rent space for events, pay for infrastructure, and pay refs and other workers.
The entry fee seemed kinda high ngl
That’s nxl entry for ya. D5 is $2300 😂
Yeah it used to be $2500 but it has never been cheap for Xball
Ay 18:48 its me :)
You made it! Clean run into the snake too. 40 did a good job with that angle too
yea its like 1k per person at least, paint alone is like 400
