I actually think Tom Sawyer's island is a very well themed area of the park (I had to read Tom Sawyer in both elementary and middle school), but I don't think enough people used it to justify keeping it. Also, it's clearly an area meant for young children to run around and explore, but for adults there isn't much value going there more than once. I think it's a cool relic of the past, but think the change to Cars and Villains makes a lot of sense.
Tom Sawyers island is a great place to escape the crowds and get AC in the caves. Losing the river boat I think is the biggest loss. I would be ok with it though if it was classic Disney imagineering handling this. But if it is the same imagineering that did EPCOT 2.0…. I’m very very skeptical to say the least
It’s clear that WDW RoA is so inferior to Disneyland’s version. With Disneyland you have the island, canoes, Samuel Clemens, the Columbia, Fantasmic and the Railroad. So much kinetic energy. The most exciting thing about the WDW was that a bear got stuck on the island. It’s time for it to go, and invite McQueen and Mater. And who knows, the villains land will probably get a body of water

Yes, I took Gamble and his three brothers there about 25 years ago. It was a one and done after I had to single handedly get four giggling little kids through those tunnels😅😅😅Awesome video, Josh, this is award worthy! And, the mike on the hat is great, much better than the fuzzy one you have to pass around.

Tom Sawyer island is good if you’re not only spending 1-2 days at the Magic Kingdom. They should’ve added some kind of tunnel or bridge to the island. It only being accessed by boat makes visitors feel closed off from the rest of the park. It’s a very neat space otherwise.

The fort part is also at Disneyland's Paris Frontierland entrance, the sleeping guy is also there. Will go and pay a visit this year, I have always loved this kind of walkthrough experiences but a new land will be a great upgrade. Not sure how it will fit thematically though

I once got stuck on a keel boat because the rope that ties to the dock snapped and we had to basically stay on the river until they could get a replacement. We have not been back since. Ch-ears

I went to Tom Sawyer's Island last month for the first time and wasn't too impressed tbh. I get that folks have nostalgia for it but it clearly doesn't resonate with most guests these days

Went once to Toms island and never went back. Trapped on island for an hour with no boats taking people back. But one did have chip and dale waving to people as we baked in the sun. I think chip laughed at us while dale flipped us all off. 😂 brutal

This dump is what Disney fans are attempting to save? Magic Kingdom’s Tom Sawyer Island is seriously inferior to the original one in Disneyland. It is no wonder the imagineers put Big Thunder Mountain on the island, when designing Frontierland in Disneyland Paris. Magic Kingdom should figure out how to keep part of the Rivers of America, but seriously getting rid of that island is long overdue, as it is waste of space. “Cars” is better suited for Hollywood Studios, due to being a Pixar franchise. However anything is better than the current state of Tom Sawyer Island. Plus, I am sure children will love racing cars in a national park setting.
I haven't been on Tom Sawyer for at least 17 years. The fort and tunnels are cool but I remember walking through one of the tunnels and someone rounded a corner from the other direction - scared the crap out of me 😂 the steamboat was nice but again not a must do for me. I'm all for Cars land.
