It's so weird how slept on the multiplayer and snapmap modes were. As a result we got a really weird multiplayer for Doom Eternal, I could never get into it...
Reinstalled the game after 6 years like a week or two ago and I've been hooked on the multiplayer. Hope more people play it since I encounter the same 10 people in most matches on the PS4 NA server. It's a few slight adjustments way from being the perfect multiplayer imo
Totally agree with you and that's why it's so disappointing to me that we didnt get those adjustments in DOOM Eternal. Fingers crossed they give it another chance when they announce a new game
@@GunslingerNV If the next game has eternal mechanics, then they'd probably have to remove certain things such as dashing, ice bomb, and meathook for the multiplayer. (Flame belch would be amazing as an equipment item tho)
Being in southamerica and with an outdated hardware, I had terrible luck trying to find people, so I quickly gave up, but the few matches I played with bots were fun as hell. In addition to that, snapmap was a very complex tool, to the point that I had downloaded recreations of multiplayer maps for it. Like, I don't remember the name for it, but they had a mesh tool or something, that allowed you to spawn squares then adjust the size of them, kinda like making maps for quake1, but within the game itself. Very few levels were made due to its complexity, but the few levels I saw, made great use of that tool. I kinda wish they had added a bit more focus on singleplayer instead of multiplayer. Like, a mini dlc with few levels, just to have the multiplayer guns against monsters, or a horde mode, ala eternal, so you could use multiplayer levels with monsters. Instead they did a vr spinoff, then eternal. Eternal is good, but it lacks some multiplayer features. I mean, you know already. I have seen some eternal mod's though, with people making coop on endless hordes or deathmatch where everyone is slayer instead of 1v2. Haven't checked, but I wonder if after 7 years, anyone modded 2016 to have coop or classic deathmatch on it somehow. (At least on pc)
Hey i'm actively plaing late and i have a Tip for those who search and dont find players to play, dont get discuraged. - There is a choice of 3 regions by pressing R in menu . In nearly any time fo the day you can find players toi play with.
One thing I like about the powerups and demons is a choice you can make to wait outside the combat with said powerup or demon to deny the enemy team a crucial resource, stalling however becomes less and less viable the more time you have to play with your powerup or demon. This tactic can be especially crucial for demons as unlike powerups, they have a minimum duration that they cannot go below for how long they last once the owner dies and a new person picks the rune up.
From an art perspective, it's clear that many of the settings and themes found in 2016's multiplayer evolved into some of the stuff found in Eternal. 😀 And snamap, just like eternal, has been modded into - which means access to more props, features and features the devs never made accessible.
What If.. Id announces that by year 202X a new Doom game is coming out, this new game, is Doom2016 Multiplayer re-released, which has following features: - Seasonal Updates (longevity updates) - Rebalancing (Buff/Nerfs) on monthly bases - Skins (some free bought by in-game currency, and some bought by real money) - Emotes (some free bought by in-game currency, and some bought by real money) - New maps every new season - New modes every new season - Ranked - 3 active runes concurrently, but maybe nerf their power. And of course, we will need more runes. - New weapons - 2 concurrent equipment. And you may have same one twice. - Roles (Tank, Support, Damage). So it's no-longer just arena shooter, but rather playing as actual team. - Customizable weapon mods. ie: Player may prefer shotgun with grenade while another prefers the 3-shots mod. - If you pick demon rune, you need to stay on that spot for 3secs to get it, if an enemy standing on it, no one gets it until only 1 is standing.

Doom Eternal didn’t have a proper mp due to how complex the gameplay loop and that every mechanic being given to a lobby full of players would be chaos. All that being said, Dark Ages looks just as complex. So in my perfect world it’d be cool to see this game make a comeback alongside Dark Ages, either by updating 2016 or re-releasing it as a standalone MP Doom game. There’s still so much that can be added and refined with the game, especially when we throw Doom Eternal’s demons and maps into the mix. And at the very least I’d take the announcer from Battlemode over VEGA anyday. What I’m trying to say is Doom 2016 needs a modern remaster. It deserves it.
Great video man, i agree its underrated, i personally think the single player is so good its not even comparable, but for what it is, its alot of fun, which is the point at the end of the day, i still play 2016 and eternal regularly
It's not my cuppa tea but it'd be easier to forgive if there was more of a multiplayer to that game and battlemode was just that, a mode. Least they could've done was repackage 2016s multiplayer to try and bring in the new crowd Eternal gathered. I'm gonna have to do a video on Eternal at some point but I already know its gonna get some major backlash 😂
I'm definitely hopping back on this game after a while. I had a SUPER fuckin blast playing this game and I'm looking forward to it again. It's just insane and fuckin sad that Doom 2016 multiplayer, a game that released complete and PACKED with features is VERY VERY underappreciated and practically dead when you have games nowadays (modern gaming) where they release half assed and incomplete and their fanbases (as a Halo fan, I'm looking you Halo infinite and Halo community) would just drool and climax for even an ounce of what Doom 2016 has. Absolutely! Other multiplayer games such as Infinite feel like they're missing huge chunks of the game at launch (where the hell is forge, full custom game options, coop campaign, etc?) and take years to add it in where as Doom 2016 started strong and only kept getting better! The worst part about all of this is that 2016's multiplayer failure only feeds into the micro transaction filled, live service model of modern multiplayer games by showing no one wants to play it 😞

@@GunslingerNV Yeah I mean the Multiplayer in 2016 had some flaws, but with the balancing effort they made in 2017 made it really enjoyable to play, except that no one talked about it In your video though I don't think you have mentionned the gun switch, I don't know about consoles but on PC this the key for being efficient in this game, because it really increases your dammage per second
imagine if ID gave a shit about doom eternal more that 2 years after its release and not leave it in the bin for it being untouched and unloved. Or making a multiplayer just like this one but take out all of the unnecessary shit like slayers turning into demons. Doom eternal or 2016 I played a slayer verse slayer mod very similar to this but without demons or pickups if anyone remembers Quake 3 rocket arena imagine you put the them together with the same gun play start wit the same health infinite ammo same weapons fight to the death cant get more balanced then that only difference is your skill. after a few hours of that I have never legit played something more fun out of any game in my entire life the extreme speed with the extremely fast weapon switch between pb rocket ssg ballista using your meathook to navigate around super fast around the map. Its just like the quake like we knew and loved but it is better in every single way possible imo it was the perfect arena shooter that I could never have. Because the in the time we live in they cant handle losing to someone who is better
Doom 2016's gameplay borrowed quite a bit from Quake, but it remained its own distinct brand of frag fest. I love it. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to play it until just a few months before Eternal's release. I prioritized getting my hands on Eternal and it took most of my attention. I've revisited 2016 and I'm somewhat regretful I didn't get a chance to play the multiplayer back when its servers were more populated. Still, it's a good time. Surprisingly still active after all these years. Playing with bots isn't half bad when no people are around either.
Ahh I never played quake but I've been hoping they'd make a new one and give it the doom treatment. Thought I heard something about that a while back but haven't heard anything since
@@GunslingerNV There's been some speculation and wishful thinking about a new Quake game. I think it's the logical next step for Id to take. Modern Doom has been a success and they should really take some time before adding a new chapter to that. If you've never played Quake. I would suggest you start with the classic. It's had a bit of a facelift, and an official horde mode added recently. The four main episodes is where it's at, though. My personal preference is the GOG version (not remastered) using Quakespasm Spiked source port and the Arcane Dimensions mod. It adds a number of large new single player maps and a number of minor tweaks that makes it better than the official remaster, in my opinion. In any case, if you do get around to trying it, I hope you enjoy it. If not, even if you just check out some playthroughs and observe the art style, just imagine the things the modern Id Tech could do to reimagine Quake.

Ahh yeah I noticed that too, Empyrian seemed a bit odd compared to the other maps but fits so much more after playing through eternal
