When I was young, my family anchored at Crane’s Beach and we’d enjoy the beach during the summers. My friends and I used to run up to “The Castle” and play on the grounds. This house is close to my heart. ❤ An interesting story about the house; Mr. Crane built the first summer house and his wife didn’t like it. He asked her to live with it for, I believe, ten years. After that, he tore down the first house and built this one. After the parents had passed away, none of the Crane children wanted the house, so the trusties took it over. I lived in Ipswich when I was young and remember the beach days. There was an old ship, the Ada K Damon, that ran aground during a horrible blizzard in 1909. The ship would get buried in the sand then reemerge years later, the then disappear under the sand again for a few years until it would re-emerge again. That went on for over a century. After being on the beach for 111 years, the last remaining pieces of the Ada K Damon were torn apart by a coastal storm and it no longer exists.
Watching this tour of Castle Hill, all I can think of is Foxworth Hall in the 1987 film Flowers in the Attic. Louise Fletcher as the Grandmother (Olivia Foxworth) was a chilling performance.

The mansion worked so well for the movie. The exterior is almost exactly how V.C. Andrews described it.
