the difference in the riff at 2:03 from its original version on the bitches brew album in my opinion turns it into one of the first doom metal riffs. thunderous, and real heaviness. fans of black sabbath, pentagram and saint vitus will see it.
@ferox965 Completely with you. Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, etc get all the credit for starting metal, but to me when you heard how brooding and crawling the theme is played how could you say it didn't have influence on metal. Also, to me Mahavishnu was the first metal band. Ex the song Birds of fire listen to the Cobham alone. His loud dynamic and the way he plays double bass is the archetype for a metal drumming. Then you have the furious and dissonance interplay between Goodman and McLaughlin.

Where did you get the unedited versions of these shows? The original album is great but I like this even more.
