Something super cracked about Tryn is that you can start an auto attack and then Q after it starts to heal. Despite spending the rage if the auto was a crit animation it will still crit because he tells if it's a crit through his auto attack animation this lets you get a cheeky crit in on a Q heal. His spin can finish people under tower while helping escape tower range as well. Overall Tryn is not a "mediocre" champ right now. He's got a higher skill ceiling than Akali for certain and it's actually not too hard to hit Challenger with him if you commit to learning. This plus his ability to play any role makes him a top tier champ right now. Tryn is absolutely slept on because he requires real skill to master.
Have you played the new swain? Last swain top video I searched from new was from 2 years ago. I've been playing him for quite a while as an easy team fighter and top lane melee harasser. They adjusted some abilities but it's still the same playstyle. Would really be glad if you can play him and give your thoughts!
