Yes, I was wondering about the best caulking that you can think of for an aluminum boat, but the caulking will be done for about that will be going underwater where the caulking is and I would need to be able to paint over the caulking, preferably white what are your thoughts please?
What is the setting time for the Sika 291 Lot and it can be tool as the Sika 1A? also. What is the diference between the Sika 291 Lot and Sika 1A? Cheers
Sorry for the late reply!! Yea this would be great for that sort of application, good surface prep though and pre-treatment using Sika Aktivator 205 for best results
Generally speaking, yes. However… there are countless types of rubber on the market, for any critical applications we would always recommend testing first. If you have a big application Sika can always run tests and recommend any pretreatment requirements.
They’re similar products for different industries. The 291 is prt of the I-cure family making it more friendly towards DIY as the VOC’s are lower than say 221. Also 291 has been tested for use within maritime construction and as such carries the wheel mark accreditation.
@@ChasingRiver sorry should have been more clear 🙈 291 was phased out in the UK around 5 years ago in favour of 291i, it was due to changes in legislation not allowing the old formulation to be sold in the DIY market without a pair of gloves. SIKA deemed this wasn’t a very practical solution so decided to reformulate and reduce the VOC content
In my opinion, 18 tons per m2 is very weak. 18000 kg : 10000 cm2 is only 1.8 kg per cm2. High Tack from "Den Braven" has a tensile strength from 22 kg per cm2
Absolutely, but remember aluminium oxidises almost as soon as it comes into contact with atmosphere so a good scratch up using 3M Scotch Brite then clean with SIKA Aktivator 205 and stick your components down straight away
All these PU adhesives are organic and as such will degrade after prolonged exposure to UV. Generally their tolerance can be measured in multiples of years service life making them suitable for outdoor applications
Would this be suitable for a motorhome roof ? I purchased the sikaflex 522 although debating to use this now?
Thank you

Seeing my comfortable retirement in the amount of full Sika boxes in the background. When are you guys closed and nobody is in that building? lol
Does sika have an adhesive that will bond a 3mm sheet of hdpe to a Plywood backing? Sheet is 1200x600mm.
Did you find a product?
@Patrioticj australia not for a reasonable price no. Ended up using a 3M industrial double sided tape.

Will this work on Hypalon boats?
Ideally you would want to use a contact adhesive like Bostik 2402 for hypalon

High Tack from "Den Braven" has a tensile strength from 22 kg per cm2
They got the maths wrong: 1.8 MPa is about 18 kg/cm2
You beat me to it!
How heat resistant is this
Service temperature range is -50 to 90 degrees C. You can go up to 120 degrees C for up to 4hrs or 140 degrees C for 1hr
