Dude, I was blasting this whole album as well as White Pony in my truck while off roading through the desert last weekend. Needles and Pins, Battle Axe, and Moana hit different out there though. Clear skies, drinking Phantom Bride IPA, and driving on empty dirt roads in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night. Pure bliss.
I have a playlist I named LND for late night drive and my rock/metal one has a ton of deftones in it 👌

It's not that uncommon that if you can play guitar you can play bass, and vice versa. Although the use of bass on here definitely surprised me too 🤣

For everyone asking, Yes Stephen uses a LTD Bass 5 string in this (also in Xerces from Saturday Night Wrist) I don't know the tunning saddly. Everybody's question is, How he gets his bass sound like a guitar??? He just connects his bass in his guitar amp and that all just a LOT of distortion. Cheers everyone!!!

The rhythmic talent of Steph, not spoken of so much as felt and heard = Deftones' secret weapon 🌟
Its why tones is one of tha few alt/metal bands dat appeals to nonwhites as much as if not moreso than whites- few other metal bands emphasize rhythm as heavily. With its focus on percussive force n flow n minimalist harmonies, structurally, they best work is far more similar in nature & character to 90s boom bap hip hop than tha mallcore nu metal of tha early/mid 00s; its no surprise they eventually began integrating trip hop into they style. Een at they most aggressive & noisy, they music retains a solid underlying sensuality n sexiness which is deadass utterly alien to mos alt metal
Chi’s backup screams are such a comfort, they were so primal yet so etiquette and nuanced. I love that beautiful duality in all their songs. Chi was an amazing man with even more amazing vocals❤️🔥RIP Chi

They are the two greatest bands in my world. They have a way making music that takes you on a ride and creates an experience unique to the listener. I can hear a song and it instantly takes me back to a specific time, place or even an image. It is so great to hear that teenagers like yourself have found the Deftones. I am so grateful you took the time to share that with me. Take care my friend.
I was just thinking the same thing. This album came out right after I graduated high school, so much fun was had and this album was playing through all of it. Same with White Pony and the others for the high school years.
PROBABLY, depends-on-the-day-but probably my favorite record.. Just.. an absolutely epic track. Also just listening to Chi on those vocals is so bittersweet and fucking beautifully haunting. Thanks a lot for these videos guys, truly.

In my darkest moments of teenage depression, this album stood with me. I got to see Deftones for the second time at Mexico City in '07, Chi was still playing and it was pure magic
I love the sound and mix of this album .... the best guitars, a powerful bass, raw and subtle vocals, sweet, sharp synths and a few drums that compact. The best band. chi cheng forever in our hearts.
Hands down my favorite track from Deftones. The first listen through blew me away. The second listen through was behind my drum kit learning every note. This was the moment Abe Cunningham became my favorite drummer of all time.
