‘Jews can take a joke’: Rabbi Shmuley Boteach defends Dave Chappelle’s SNL monologue

- Author Rabbi Shmuley Boteach says Jewish people can “take a joke” as he defended Dave Chappelle after the comedian’s controversial opening monologue on Saturday Night Live.
Chappelle joked that early in his career he learned there are two words in the English language you should never put together - “the” and “Jews”.
“I’ve never heard anyone do good after they said that,” Chappelle said during Saturday Night Live.
Rabbi Shmuley said he thought Chappelle’s joke was “hilarious” and the comedian is not anti-Semitic.
“We have to always distinguish between true racism, bigotry and anti-Semitism and just humour,” he told Sky News host Rita Panahi.
As an Orthodox Jew myself I wish people would stop being offended for me. Daven monologue was gold, I never laughed so hard in a long time

Comedy is society's most unifying form of discourse and critical thinking. The more topics are tabu, the more society bottles up their criticisms, the more differences in beliefs and opinions will fester into misunderstanding(s) and hatred.
Humor is also used as a tool of psychological manipulation, in that you can wrap an dangerous idea into a joke, making it palatable to the listener, who is unaware of the narrators true intent.
