    That's when you have to weigh the pros and cons between a manual and and automatic transmission. Badass though that it finished the trail and brought you all the way back home, very impressive.🤘

      This has nothing to do with the transmission. This is driver error and panic. I’ve been in this exact ledge a few times.

      @Crawlerjamie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Anis Bekhazi upgrades? Are you kidding me? How about keeping your calm when in a bad situation. That is number one. Throwing money at a vehicle doesn’t make you a better driver. That’s part of the problem with overlanders.

      @@Crawlerjamie I'm assuming it stalled because he rolled backwards while still in drive?

      @@jshaw6600 Exactly. Did this once on my Z71 pickup on ice. Going about 40 and did a 180. Truck instantly stalled when I caught traction moving backwards. Not much you can do about it.

  • @volcom137z

    That rollover was brutal to watch. You gained so much momentum rolling backwards. Pretty much unavoidable. Luckily there wasn't a huge drop off or anything. Baboons pass in Africa is a super sketchy trail and hard to watch people do. Huge deadly drop offs with inches to spare from a cliff.

    • @Raptorman0909
      @Raptorman0909 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lots of places would have had a less survivable outcome with significant drop-offs. If this had been the 'Lion's Back', which is now closed, the 4Runner and its driver would have been balled up after dropping 150-300 feet.

    Whenever I drive a rig with an automatic transmission and I think I'm gonna roll back I make absolutely sure I can pop it into neutral as fast as I can, put it reverse before I roll back, or have my wits about me to hit the parking brake in case the motor gets stalled by the torque converter.
    I also left foot brake alot so I can keep my right foot on the gas so the whole drive train stays engaged.

    • @benallison7646
      @benallison7646 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When then an Automatic rolls backward with the engine running, it cuts off the engine to prevent damage. The engine in D wants to push the vehicle forward, rolling backward causes binding, and something will break if the engine does shut off.

    • @GuninGames
      @GuninGames 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      ive done it to my girl a couple times not on propose of course, for some reason after a drive when the engines warm, it will idle below 400 rpm for some reason I think cause of the heat, only would cut off as I pulled into a parking space idling in, because he had his truck in 4 high, the wheels lost traction, if he ran in 4 Low, the engine can rev higher and wheels wont spin to hard and keep traction

    • @Opt.Offroad
      @Opt.Offroad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that pretty much sums it up. Same as when you push in a clutch on a manual transmission, you can roll freely while in gear. When the torque converter is not putting load on the transmission from the engine, there is nothing to prevent you from rolling

    What tire carrier is that? I've built a rear bumper and now I'm debating whether or not to fab up a swingout tire carrier. The one you are running seems to provide a good bit of exit angle. Also, how did the KO2s do?

      It was a home built one, using a hitch mounted swing (meant for those baskets) and a Walmart hitch mounted tire carrier. To be honest the exit angle was horrible, at least for the stuff I like to do. I sold it last year and am gathering the supplies to modify my bumper with an actual swingout. The KO2s have done great for what they are. Much more grippy than the OGs. I’ll probably go with some mud terrains next time tho 👍🏼

      @@Opt.Offroad What type of latch and spindle are you planning on using? Well, if you're thinking MTs you don't mind road noise. I'd suggest looking into Cooper STT Pros. A tad noisy, but more than capable on the trail. A very balanced AT. KO2s are good, just couldn't cut the butter for me, plus, expensive!

      Jasonhb07 I got the latch on Amazon, just one of those basic vertical pull style. The hinge is Comp4x4’s dual shear, which I don’t recommend just based on their lack of communication and how long it took me to get my product. Just go with 4xInnovations, that’s what I would do if I was starting over.
      STT Pros are on my list of considerations 👍🏼 a few of my wheeling buddies have them and like them a lot

    Honestly , do you find your self snapping front CV axles alot?

    • @Opt.Offroad
      @Opt.Offroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      XxSocalzFinestxX not often at all. Having the front diff locked helps save a lot of wear on the front end, CVs included. The only reason I ever broke them was when I was at full droop and steering lock. Too much angle for the outer joints. I’m hoping with my new LT setup, I can avoid all binding and (knock on wood) not break another CV for a long time

      damacknificent151 it was a combination of things, a lot of it had to do with the obstacle specifically. Our trail guide, who is out on Hell’s Revenge like every day, says it’s common for people to stall on that hill. The real question is why were my brakes immediately worthless. Normally you can press on the brake and it’ll work normally long enough to restart the truck. Mine didn’t for some reason, still not sure why after checking over everything on the brake system.

    • @damacknificent151
      @damacknificent151 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had an issue with my abs not letting me brake while going down a hill, thankfully no cliffs, but i wonder why abs wont ley me brake. Is it flawed? I could just hear the abs making noise and no brakes. Did you find out why you couldn't brake?

    • @Opt.Offroad
      @Opt.Offroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      damacknificent151 honestly it wouldn’t surprise me if the ABS was a factor in my crash. Our generation Toyotas have really unreliable ABS systems, though I’ve never had a direct issue with mine. I’m still considering pulling the ABS fuse
