OH MY GOD THIS IS SO AMAZING ok so I’m another really big Octo Expansion theorist and this fits almost perfectly with what I have came up so far and adding more. I used to think that dedf1sh wasn’t properly sanitized because of her tentacles being slightly red/pink and her still being a DJ. The theory that tartar modified her to make music instead of kill to lure inklings into the metro does make more sense in my opinion. I do want to hint out that tartar wasn’t acting entirely on the professor’s command, because he only wanted the next intelligent species to have human knowledge, and not genocide over them being kind of stupid (us humans can be as stupid as inklings to). I also think that it was mostly targeting octarians first instead of inklings, because their society is crumbling and even genocide can go unnoticed, so it specifically target them first. Edit: Also, how you said that dedf1sh was engineered to make music does fit in with some of the offical artwork, where you can see sanitized octolings not killing people, but was the task of injecting them with the goo (probably to sanitize them) so it’s not out of the question for sanitized octolings to do more than just killing. And dedf1sh’s glasses look slightly different to the normal octoling glasses (being a darker shade of red) and that sanitized octoling in the artwork had different glasses, so maybe they used glasses to modify what the octolings did but dedf1sh’s glasses were designed to look similar for familiarity Edit 2: omg it makes so much sense now. So I think the main reason for the Octolings to be willing to do the tests is because they were following the lie that they’ll get to Inkopolis and the octarian society is a horrible place to live so they’d obviously do it. Well, I know I’m late, but the problem with this is that Dedf1sh wasn’t fully sanitized, and that’s why she makes music. Tartar didn’t know that she made that, her songs describe the feeling of being sanitized. Another issue is, Tartar only make the rainmaker stages so he could collect data on how the subjects interact in battles. Think about it, if a test subject were to be able to beat an entire team by itself in rainmaker, Tartar could learn a lot about that subject when it gets blended. Realistically Tartar’s goal was always to use the Nils statue to destroy the world, but had to execute that plan prematurely do to risk of agent 8 telling what’s going on behind Kamabo Corp’s doors
The Japanese version has different dialogue and there was an interview that reveals much more. The Japanese version shows off that his plan was actually to restore humanity, and the Japanese interview revealed that it wanted to do this all thanks to his stupid professor giving him sentience and emotions and leaving it in isolation for over 12000 years. It mentioned it got lonely and wanted to restore humanity and all that. Dedf1sh performs music just because she remembers a very small amount of herself or something and decided to make music instead, not due to straight up being chosen. I think that creating rainmaker matches and all that comes from trying to manipulate people obviously into thinking it's gonna get to the promised land or to test strength maybe.
Maybe you should try to listening closer to the song called literally "Gateway Complete! GET. IN. " You can clearly make out some things: 1. Octolings chanting: DON'T. GO. IN. PLEASE. DON'T. GO. IN. PLEASE. 2. The Phone laughing. 3. The distorted "Line Clear!" theme 4. The Octolings screaming. 5. The sound of a blender starting up. 6. Even more intense screaming. 7. Phone laughing again. 8. Splats. Lots of splats. 9. Sound of meat getting cut. 10. Distorted company anthem. 11. Sped up Splatoon 1 creepy noises. And for the finale, it mixes together Octolings screaming, meat cutting sounds, Phone laughing, VERY LOUD SPLATOON 1 CREEPY SOUNDS, and looped last part of "Test complete!" getting louder, faster, and more high-pitched. I think now that I laid it all out everyone can piece together what is happening in this song, but it would still be interesting to see you put a full video analysis on it! Not a bad theory. I figured they were trying to build up an army from the test subjects tp try and invade the inklings, and kept the cannon as a backup. The branding idea is not at all a terrible idea, i just wish they explored how TarTar got his resources more. AND how the sanitation process works...Nice vid tho.

(8 being blended.) the blended get... blended, and they are the screams we hear. The sanitized get injected with the blended octoling goop, and they are the soldiers we fight in Octo Expantion. The laughing statues are dead INKLINGS that were tested on to see if Tartar's plan would work, the phone ringing is a message from an octoling, (maybe Dedf1sh, idk) but we don't understand it, so it is from a different language or a version of the octoling language OR the sanitized language itself. If the phone language is a different version of the octoling language, It's different because Dedf1sh or whoever sent it is underground and the sanitized language is different from the octoling language so they forgot almost all of the octoling language.
One thing that i still don't understand: Why would he do the effort to blend everyone, when he could just use the gigant human head in the first place..
Finally a Splatoon theory that actually makes since and doesn’t suck. Inklings are aware that Octolings exist but at some point between the great turf war and Splatoon 1 newer generations of inklings didn’t know what they looked like so to them Octolings are just inklings with weird hairstyles

Is it possible that maybe Tartar created these Octolings to invade Inkopolis? Remember, though it might not be obvious but the reason Tartar knew his new creation was self aware both from the results of the tests and the color of the mc and also the inkantation that "purified" them. So maybe he's trying to use these tests to make the "best" subject he can, blend the DNA and make intelligent clones to do his professors bidding. Sorry for the long comment xD

Splatoon has always had an edge of darkness despite it's "kid friendly" appearance. go watch my Lore of Gaming video on Splatoon 1 for details, but in essence: the world in which splatoon takes place is in a post apocalyptic universe where sea levels rose and killed of humanity and wars were waged between Inklings and Octarians. the best kind of art: movies, video games, books don't shy away from dark material despite being able to also appeal to children. all of Nintendo's biggest franchises: Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, even Kirby have aspects to them that could be considered dark/scary. if you do not enjoy that, that's fine it's your opinion.

Stacey Oppong fair enough. The sunken scrolls are only in the main story mode though, not the Octo Expansion. In the scrolls it hints at that the ‘professor‘ that created Tartar was the same one that managed to preserve Judd. The scientist’s original intention for Tartar was for him to help the new life on Earth and pass down the information that humans knew. Obviously, that isn’t what happened. (sorry for the long comment btw)
Commander Tartar may be a bit obscure, but they're one of the coolest, most random and unexpected Nintendo villains of all time.

Splatoon has always had an edge of darkness despite it's "kid friendly" appearance. go watch my Lore of Gaming video on Splatoon 1 for details, but in essence: the world in which splatoon takes place is in a post apocalyptic universe where sea levels rose and killed of humanity and wars were waged between Inklings and Octarians. the best kind of art: movies, video games, books don't shy away from dark material despite being able to also appeal to children. all of Nintendo's biggest franchises: Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, even Kirby have aspects to them that could be considered dark/scary. if you do not enjoy that, that's fine it's your opinion.

Stacey Oppong fair enough. The sunken scrolls are only in the main story mode though, not the Octo Expansion. In the scrolls it hints at that the ‘professor‘ that created Tartar was the same one that managed to preserve Judd. The scientist’s original intention for Tartar was for him to help the new life on Earth and pass down the information that humans knew. Obviously, that isn’t what happened.
