Ricky Gervais has been at the top of his game for decades now I think. He often says and does these things without it affecting his career because he has so much under his belt at this point that his career is solidified. He has so many movies, tv shows and also his stand up.
Part of it is also because he can explain why his jokes are jokes before anyone tries to cancel him for it. A bit like as Eminem showed us in Rap battles, if you say what the opponent is going to say about you before they do, they've got nothing.
He can say the things he says because he's British. He neither lives nor works in America. He doesn't have to be afraid of being canceled. That's why he's standing up there telling the truth to these people's faces. He doesn't do comedy for these people, but for those on TV.
He is like Rogan, Chappell and Burr they are just some people that are just uncancellable.
How did he get to do it 5 times without being canceled?! 😆 I mean canceled in America, not elsewhere where this type of comedy is appreciated 😅
He got to do it because he got the best viewing figures for them,even though these viewers couldn't care less about the awards,they watched to see Ricky roast them every time 🤣

"Uncomfortable laughter" perfectly said, I love Ricky I think his shows are great and heartfelt, and he get's that it's all not that big of a deal, it's just fun.

Hollywood is still there - it hasn't been destroyed at all. "Ricky Gervais uses normal British humour" is more accurate. The Internet insists that every conversation is "Destroying" or "Blasting" or "Ripping" etc etc. This constant over-exaggeration of meaning turns everything into a crisis or a conflict.
