    I love that you have an idea of what Korean makeup is like. It is far more different than the western makeup style that is popular today. I’ve seen so many people doing Korean makeup review videos, and most of them don’t even know what the intention of these products are. Thank you for being knowledgeable about Korean beauty!

    • @matildaonvideo
      @matildaonvideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Thank you so much! I agree, a lot of reviews expect the products to perform the same as more intense makeup but it's not the intention. Suits me just the way it is! 👌 x

  • @ninjazii

    Thank you Matilda for approaching your review of k beauty in such a nuanced way! Many very BIG TH-camrs tend to dismiss k beauty as "not effective" or strange cos it doesn't fit their (often heavy-handed) view of what makeup should achieve. I'm not super into k beauty but can appreciate their aesthetic and I am more inclined to try them after seeing an educated review of them.

    • @matildaonvideo

      Thank you so much! Very well said 👏 Really appreciate it, and glad you might be open to trying them! x

    • @blackittyyy05
      @blackittyyy05 5 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      I agree! Lots of beauty gurus simply say it’s not a good product just because it’s not their preference, which I think is misconstruing. I understand kbeauty is not for the ones who like to go all out with their makeup routines, but I think it’s not fair to dismiss their products or say it’s not good just because it doesn’t jive with them. To each their own 👍🏻

    • @matildaonvideo
      @matildaonvideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      Absolutely! Blogging is naturally all about personal opinion but so many people fail to be objective, and should be thinking 'well this is my preference, so I'm coming at this product wanting it to be high coverage / sheer / highly pigmented / light'. I'm well aware many products or brands won't fit my personal style, but I'd never speak negatively about them just because they didn't suit me - they'll always work well for other people 👍 x

    Thank you for talking about the beauty philosophy of K-beauty brands in the beginning of the video. Many youtubers try K-beauty as a fad or show misinterpretations like the 10 step beauty routine. As for Korean skincare, brands like Klairs or Laneige have very hydrating toners and creams!

    • @matildaonvideo
      @matildaonvideo  5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    You should try brands like Blackrouge and Rom&nd! Those brands are really cheap and high quality as well🥺✨
    + Blackrouge:
    • Their velvet lip tint line "Air Fit Velvet Tint" are really good. This line have 6 seasons and all of them are all high quality🥺
    • They also have other products like cushion, eyeliner, blush, eyeshadow and more. I have their eyeliner and it's really good🥰
    + Rom&nd:
    • All of their lip products are amazing!! They have lip gloss as well as lipstick in a huge range of color✨
    • I love their matte cushion which also comes in shade 25 which is for tan skin💕

    This has been helpful for me as a casual K-beauty fan because I've been looking into finding a good sheer, easy to throw on lip color to add to a YesStyle order and got overwhelmed by all the choices. The Mamonde Balm Intense and Apieu markers look great! My all time favorite sunscreen is Klairs' Soft Airy UV Essence, it's so lightweight and leaves NO white cast (it's 100% chemical sunscreen w/very stable UVA and UVB filters) on my medium-deep skin tone. If you're looking for natural skincare, I highly suggest trying I'm from! The rice toner is so moisturizing and lightweight

    I just love how you really appreciate the style and the philosophy(as you’ve said) of Korean makeup. I’ve seen some other youtubers trying Korean makeup and saying that it’s weird, the colour doesn’t come off and they don’t like it, without understanding that most of the k beauty focus on giving a natural look. Mamonde rose water is a good and affordable product to try! It does well for calming your skin.

    Yay finally more k-beauty contents from matilda! Some brands I recommend :
    - CosRX, there are a lot to choose but my favorite is the cleanser, sunscreen, pimple patch, propolis serum, sleeping masks and exfoliators.
    -Huxley does good moisturizers and they have a signature scent of their products so if you like it you might also want to check out their bodycare products
    -primera is more of a clean beauty brand, has a lot of body and hair products as well but their best seller is the sensitive cream and super sprout serum
    And lastly more makeup!
    -son&park, a brand by two korean makeup artists, they have this unique range including lip tints, highlighter and concealer that comes in a cube packaging that can be stacked

    For a long time, the trend for Japanese base makeup has been powder so point makeup/colour makeup tends to be powder too. That being said there was a noticable shift when the BB/CC cream boom spread from SK so there are definitely some fun products to try! Here are a few recommendations: Canmake has some great cream blushes and so does Sugao. Opera makes great tinted lip balms that feel like oil sticks similar to the Chanel coco shines (popular for the last few years). Cezanne and Chifure both have great, affordable range of lip products in more muted tones. The Flowfushi Mote eyeliner is amazing because its brush feels almost artist quality and makes acheiving different line weights very easy. (In general Japanese eyeliner and mascara are great for anyone who worries about smudging, holding a curl and lengthening since these are common concerns for folks there). Jill Stuarts Jelly Eyes are fun shimmery, wet/bouncy eyeshadow that dries down nicely though the scent can be a bit heavy. And lastly for eyeshadow palette, I have to recommend the Skin Modeling Eyes from Lunasol in Beige Beige. It looks really boring but I think its a lovely collection of satiny "nuance" shadows. MLBB (my lids but better lol). Its a longtime best seller and the shimmery topper shade is lovely on monolid eyes. Pretty much a staple for office ladies.
    Hope to you can try a few of these out!

I've always seen other Western TH-camrs try out Korean makeup, only to be disappointed when the color payoff isn't as strong as they expected it to be, or the texture to be not what they've seen before. pha water tox by nakeup face is an exfoliating nighttime serum, and it works wonders. it's also on yesstyle! another holy grail korean skincare product is missha's essence sun milk, a light serum-like sunscreen which doesn't leave a white cast.

    Hi Matilda! I got some recommendations that I've discovered! Have you ever tried cushion foundation, because apparently, you don't have to press a foundation bottle but press on a compact, and some of the compact package boxing is cute, well now onto the actual recommendations: iope air cushion blusher, iope air cushion foundation, tonymoly gloss bars, blink cat blush, lilybyred esther bunny loves you, klairs mochi cushion, holika holika cushion foundation, we bear bares cushion foundation, eglips barbie, nakeup face coverking cushion, it's demo Kirby cushion compact

    The labiotte wine tint is my all time favorite. I've actually worn it daily for a year (in the plum shade). Be careful everyone who wants to try it though, since there are a lot of counterfeits. (they also have a mini version of it!! But that kind of stained my hands when I tried to use it)

      Thanks for the heads up about the fakes! Sadly popular products often get copied so I always encourage people to purchase them directly from the brand or a reliable retailer 👍 x

    So many lip products! Since I dont wear makeup daily I just use my Korean lippies as blush. Saves me a lot of money. Then the other Korean makeup I keep is the Innisfree single eyeshadows which are super cheap and highly pigmented. I use them for the lids, bronzing, contour, blush 😂
    I was into Korean skincare for a while but I switched to Japanese brands and my skin seems to like it better.
    For Korean what I keep on purchasing are Mediheal sheet masks, Neogen Wine Pads, and my holy grail Belif Hungarian Water Essence. I would also probably repurchase the Klairs Blue Calming Cream when my skin needs it since it's a beautiful product.
    Then for Japanese I'm loving the Hada Labo lotion and Melano CC essence but dont think the latter is a product you'd need. Hoping to find a holy grail Japanese skincare as well.

    Yasss K-beauty is the best! Innisfree opened in QVB so if you’re in Sydney go check it out (everything is very reasonably priced which I love). In terms of skincare I highly recommend COSRX, they’re aimed at acne prone skin - I love their Acne Pimple Master Patch and the Centella Blemish Cream for spots. Neogen’s Gauze Peel in lemon is great for brightening. Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask for very dry lips in winter and their Moisturising Foam Cleanser is a mild cleanser.

    Colourette - their cream blushes (colorsnaps) come in a wide variety of shades for only less than $5usd, they also have tints (VERY pigmented, I would recommend the “fresh” formula over their “matte” ones tho as they are easier to blend)

    Laneige Cream Skin Refiner is all the rage now. But for good reason I think. It has a very innovative toner to cream texture. Watery but feels like you just applied a thin layer of cream moisturiser. I was amazed when I first tried it! It’s fragrance-free, made for sensitive skin and has a minimal ingredient list. I hope you try it! :D Laneige’s Stained Glow Lip Balm is also super pretty and one of the most moisturizing tinted balms ever. Really non-sticky too.
