The same reason you can do a burnout in first gear when you are stopped, but you probably wouldn't even be able to move at all in third or 4th from a stop. In this video he downshifted to get that boost and then shifted back up immediately after once he maxed out that lower gear.

I dude running from the cops ran into the front bumper of my car as I was coming to a stop at a stop sign. He flipped over my hood and rolled about 30 feet through the ditch. Dude was wearing armor though and apparently knew how to take a fall* so he jumped up immediately and ran towards my car but only to get to the street I was on so he could run into the woods and hide. He didn't make it because the cops were flying towards us and got there before he could make it. Edit -* it was surreal... he looked like an acrobat. No lie. It was like a perfect landing he set up using my hood to flip and roll. In fact I don't even know how he hit me. It was like he intentionally set it up to get into the woods.

And on that first speed up from the stand still, he didn't do it as quick as he could have. He could have probably shaved a second off. But let's keep it at 5. So all together, it would take 12 seconds to go form 0 to 178 mph on that motorcycle. I dunno about anyone else. But I've never even gone from 0 to 30 in under 10 seconds.
