I'm glad I didn't get tagged to do this as I don't have many knives and have no knowledge on them so would be hard to say what knife I would want in the future. I'm sure you would enjoy knocking a few things up in the woods. Yeah, I was going to tag 3 people with yours anyway mate. The knife one I didn't because not everyone is into different knives and I wasn't sure who could get out and do it etc. I should be doing yours when I'm next out mate. Good morning Mark, I hope life is treating you well mate. Brilliant stuff, it is always nice when you get a new knife. One thing that I like to carve with a new knife is a 'try stick'. It is basically a stick with a load of different notches carved out of it. It is good practice for the different notches plus it gets you used to the knife. If you look for try stick carving, there are loads of videos on you tube. Some I use quite regularly and others are nice to carve and help to improve skills. Thanks as always Mark... it is great to hear from you, all the best, Mark :)

    Hello Mark, excellent work on the two pot hangs. I have yet to make a tripod and you’ve helped me big time working out how to get the three pieces to hold together. I would have started to carve notches in each of them to hold the cordage 👍.
    Handy piece of rubber bungee too, how many time do things get wet around camp especially gloves, a nice edition to the kit.
    Just on the knife front, you probably would have heard of Sandy (Wiltshire Man) if not he’s a experienced knife maker himself, goes by the name of Jack Lore Knives on TH-cam. Maybe have a butchers at his designs, I must say they are stunning mate.
    Anyway, hope your week is going well mate and I’ll speak to you see. Great to see another video from you 👍 all the best, Ant.

    • @markbailey2981
      @markbailey2981  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good morning Ant, I hope you are well mate :) There are a number of ways of putting a tripod together. Some don't even need cordage, they just hold together at the top. This is one of the more common ways to do it, it is quite simple. Yes the Gruntline's are a neat item. We used to sell them in a tackle shop we had on site so I picked a few up. You could string a length if paracord up, but I carry it to use as a bungee anyway, so it is handy that it is multipurpose. I agree mate Sandy makes some lovely knives. I have seen a few of them over the years and everyone always speaks very highly of them, and also Sandy. My next door neighbor has one of Scotts big choppers from Wessex Blades. He showed it me the other week and that is impressive. The work that went into it was amazing. We are lucky to have such skilled craftsmen still making these things. Many thanks for stopping by Ant.... it is always great to hear from you. Stay safe, all the best, Mark :)

    Hiya Mark, good little day trip.
    What you said about my permission, it's okay - they gave it to me because I met the owners when on a job so it's someone I know personally and see them at least 5 times a year so pretty sure they won't give it away - but your'e right I have had it over a year and a half so it's about time I go for a 48 hour session there. Only problem is it's almost a 2 hour drive away haha, hence why I've been lazy to go.
    One negative is a national rail mainline about 250meters away.
    By the way, I see you got the brown tarp, my first DD was the green, I feel green is great if you dont want walkers to see you but brown is best if you dont want to be seen from the air - did you make any personal choice for brown or is it just a preference?
    Im thinking of getting that brown for the next tarp.
    Cheers buddy
    Chris

    • @markbailey2981
      @markbailey2981  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good morning Chris, I hope you have been keeping well mate 👍. I know what you mean mate. I sometime use a wood that is next to the main line that runs to London. It is a nice wood, but every 10 minuets the trains come past blowing their horns. I have a couple of green and camo tarps so I decided to have a change and try the brown. I saw it at the bushcraft show a couple of years ago and I liked the colour. The main idea was to use the camo and green during the summer months and the brown when things start to die back again, but it seems to blend in well for a lot of the year. Plus you know what it's like Chris, a bit of laziness as well lol. I tend to keep it in my pack if it hasn't gotten wet and haven't got around to swapping it out lol. If I am worried about people spotting it, I usually add a layer of branches and grass etc to hide the contrast and the shape a bit. But if you are in thick vegetation, once you have walked a little distance away it soon blends into the surroundings quite well. I keep thinking of getting another Aqua Quest tarp as a treat, but until I can get back to work, I will have to put it on hold for a while. Thanks for taking the time Chris..... it is always great to hear from you. Take care, all the best, Mark 👍😀🔥🌲.

    Hi Mark, Hope you are well mate. Great to see your latest videos. Brilliant content as always. The permission woodland you have looks great and the camp is starting to look pretty good too. Did you manage to get much leatherwork and carving done during this lockdown? Look forward to seeing your camp progress. Take care and stay safe. Cheers Mel Clarke

      Good morning Mel, I hope you are keeping well mate :) Yes, I have been doing a bit of both mate. I sorted through my leather box the other week and made a few ferro rod holders and pouches out of the small left over pieces that I had, and I have carved about a 4 or 5 spoons. It was nice to spend the time doing them. I might do a giveaway soon and give the leather work away. Without a job at the moment, I can't afford to buy any leather, so at least I can carry on carving, which is one of the reasons why I enjoy it. Have you been doing much Mel? Fingers crossed the weather should be nice again next week, so I will go back and carry on with things :) Thanks as always Mel..... it is great to hear from you. Stay safe..... al the best, Mark :)

      @@markbailey2981 Hi Mark, Yes, like you have been doing a bit of carving, three spoons and one spatula and one large mushroom for my grand-daughter lol :) Leatherwork wise have been busy on a handbag for my boss (my wife) she thought it would make a change from pouches etc. LOL It's nearly done now and she is really pleased with it (should give me a few Bonus points) :). Sorry to hear you're not working at the moment. If you have a leather project you want to get on with until you are back at work would you consider letting me get some leather for you as a thank-you for all the time and effort you put into your videos. We subscribers always learn something from them and I know the equipment you use is not cheap to buy. So check Artisan Leather out, another good pointer you put me on to and see if there is anything useful for you. Let me have the details, your address and I will take care of the rest (bear in mind I'm a poor pensioner now) LOL :). Cheers Mel :)

      @@melclarke4186 Hi Mel, it sound like you have been busy there mate. I wouldn't know were to start with a handbag, so props to you. I'm sure your wife will love it 👍. At least you will know where the secret compartment is where she hides the money lol. Thank you for your vey kind off Mel.... it is very much appreciated mate, it really is. I will hopefully sort something out for work soon. I'm not sure if the fishery can afford to pay wages if there is social distancing and the cafe and campsite are restricted as well, but I will hopefully find out in a couple of weeks. At least I can still get out to the woods and I have plenty do to, plus I have just gone back volunteering again at the farm. The guy who I volunteer for owns the woods, so it is nice to be able to give something back. You have a great weekend Mel..... thanks again, all the best, Mark 😀🔥🌲

    Hi Mark, awesome video from your channel as usual. I was admiring the lovely polished bevel on your L.T.Wright, are you still using the Tormek? Talking of knives I'm still using that Ballistol you put me on to, love that stuff. Thanks for sharing as always mate, be safe and be lucky. Wol.

      Good morning Wol, I hope you have been keeping well mate :) Yes mate, I recently bought a new tube of Tormek. Auto-sol is another good option. It works really well for stropping and polishes the steel to a mirror. I often pick a tube up from Halfords if I'm passing. Well, that was before you had to que for 2 hours to get in lol. I'm still using Ballistol too Wol. I recently bought a couple more of the small precision pens that they make. They work great on fishing reels and folding knives etc. Thanks as always Wol..... it is great to hear from you :) Saty safe mate, all the best, Mark :)
