Are tube amps dead? Are guitar amps obsolete?

- I really didn't even want to do this video, but I needed to check some settings on the new camera and how TH-cam would compress them. I really needed to see how they looked in production, so I shrunk the image down and threw this fake little discussion together.
Totally agree!
It is kinda crazy how good the modelers are getting. It is to the point that even the cheap ones can fool you, if they have the right IRs. It is getting to the point where the user interface and price really dictate which one to use. Even the new Headrush sounds 96% of what an Axe FX does.
I am not really a plugin guy, I prefer an all in one system, but the plugins now sound AMAZING! It is a great time to be a guitarist.
@@buzzzmiller it is, a $400 tonex and a tweaked $200 donner and you’re set.
Watch Friday at noon and you could be half way there.
Tube amps are not dead. tube amps will never be dead. the law of headlines applies.
Nothing beats tubes for live use.
I really struggle to get the sound of my amp to come through the sound reinforcement.
However, for playing in a room, I love the feel of a big and full tube amp.
Fuck that. Bring your amp.
the biggest problem is at shows the people in to mans land. our friends, girlfriends, and people who really like the band. fuck in ear and nothing on stage. really? until electronic drums are the norm. tube amps on stage will be there
That is fair enough. I have to have my own stage monitors. But I have been places with such bad sound, It is harder for them to screw up a direct feed. Maybe your places are much better than mine.
Not if youre playing live . Totally different responses between the two.
For recording, digital is the way to go
That is great that you can play live. I would love to play where you play.
Every time I go out I get someone behind the board that insists on miking the speaker in the dead center or killing all the mids and boosting just lows. My stage volume sounds great. Then, when I go out into the crowd area, after sound check, my guitar sounds like garbage. I bring a modeler and the crowd hears what I hear.
You must play way better gigs than I do. :D
@@buzzzmiller I do my own sound (my PA) and refuse to let anyone else mix unless I know them and have heard their mix before .
But getting back to modelers; they're great except for soloing .
@@lloydmunga4961 Oh, well that just isn't fair. If I could do my own sound and use my equipment, the world would be different. I usually get a bartender that twists three knobs and hopes for the best.
AI is going to change the game with digital
Yes. I fear the wave that is coming. Pretty soon there won't be a need for musicians.
nope. neither.
MAYBE???
There is that third option. I guess I didn't look at that.
So, there is yes, no and maybe. And ONLY those three answers.
