Thank you! I'm so tired of people pretending they understand science and saying that a few mg of sweetener in a diet soda is even worse for you than the 40g of sugar. Like Jesus Christ. The only one on here that raises any concern is saccharin and thats only when taking massive doses for a week straight and then only half of people are effected and even then we don't know if that causes any problems. And you hit the nail on the head about people not losing weight on diet drinks cause they eat more. It always leaves me dumbfounded how people think that a near 0 calorie ingredient in minuscule amounts actually has the same effect of a regular soda on body composition.
PictureFit In your video titled "How Many Times a Week Should I Workout?" at the 3:10 mark you suggest training each muscle group with 4 sets of 8-12. Does this mean i am doing too much volume? Because i do rows and pull ups in one workout for my back at the rate of sets/reps you had recommended totaling to 8 sets at 8-12 reps. I also do dips and bench in one workout, which also totals to 8 sets at 8-12 reps. Should i just be doing pull ups/bench press or rows/dips rather then both in the one workout? Massively appreciate a answer because this has me stumped in how i should workout.
People who think the jury is still out on artificial sweeteners have been misled. They have been heavily scrutinized and have proven to be as safe as anything. If there is any ambiguity left, it is so small that it's not worth worrying about. So, enjoy sweet tastes without the accompanying calories. It's a modern miracle and you're lucky to live in a time in which they are an option.
I think it's a good thing for there to be skepticism on any matter, much more so on matters concerning things we put in our mouths. For the most part, the attack on artificial sweeteners have not been warranted, but it's good that there is a concerted effort to get as much information as possible.
Right, but I think at this point, any reasonable skeptic should conclude that there isn't a reason to demonize sweeteners. The problem is open-ended pseudoskepticism to which no amount of evidence will ever override people's irrational fear of "artificial" substances or undermine their misplaced trust in "natural" or "organic" labels.
@@PictureFit Could you do an updated video on this topic as many other sweeteners are now on the market, like stevia, monk fruit and sugar alcohols like xylitol and erythritol. All these different sweeteners also have people claiming different insulin response which can be relevant.
Glad you've brought up the ambiguity of sweetners. My take on them is you're better off avoiding them if you can. The biggest issue of food people tend to have is the psychological need for sweet tasting substances in every meal. Dessert used to be something special, reserved for the end of the day or rare treat. Now it's a part of every meal. If you wanna break the habit of *wanting* junk food, sweeteners are only going to keep that habit fed.
It has helped to ween me off of sweets. I grew up in a diabetic household where artificial sweeteners are life. Literally! Lol. Everyone is different. If you don’t have will power and self control non of it matters anyways.

Thank you, I find it so annoying when I’m drinking a diet soda and people are like “that isn’t good for you” then I’m like why isn’t and they can never give me a straight answer lol I’ll show them this.
Staying up long periods of time, having to care and clean up after many rats/guinea pigs(sometimes some experiments require over 10). If any of them die you gotta clean it and thats only the experiment part, don't get me started on the literature review. Research is NOT fun.
Big fan from Brazil here. Your videos are just amazing. Congratulations. Could you do one on energy drinks, safe levels of consuption and their potential harmful side effects?
Can you please explain the science behind hunger hormones (ghrelin, leptin, and peptide YY)? Its really confusing and I really love your clear explanations on all your videos!

Great video which summarizes the issues and isn't biased too much . I've consumed these various sweetners for 30 odd years in various amounts and combinations- by the way mixing saccharin and asparatime in tea/coffee tastes almost just like sugar - anyway , I'm now 53 and dont have any health issues and am in ideal weight range . However I do eat a lot but am not sure if this has anything to do with the psychological effects of consuming sweetners or because my brain has become conditioned to eating a lot because of my former weight training days - either way I'm not overweight. But if course we are all different and sweetners may have alternative effects on various people. Can't understand how over 50 or more odd years there isn't any real absolute conclusive evidence concerning the safety of their use especially of it's importance to the public safety and the amount of trials previously done. Maybe they the manufacturers don't want use to know the truth? Anyway am going to keep taking the chance and continue till there is enough evidence either way as one if my main enjoyment in life is consuming sweet foods and don't want to have to go back to using sugar with all the issues it has associated with it ie weight gain, tooth decay and even promotion of ageing process .
Anes H the science shows that in general people benefit more from full body workouts than split but in some cases there were some individuals that had better results on splits
Do sweeteners, Splenda specifically raise insulin levels? I wanna start Intermittent fasting and I’m hoping just one or two cup of coffee with Splenda will be ok.
Sort of off topic for this vid but can you please do a video on recovery? More specifically, maybe the effects of magnesium, zinc, or things like that on muscle recovery. Love the videos and research!
This year for my research class, I'm testing the effects of aspartame on C. elegans, microscopic nematodes that have a genome similar to that of humans related to 40% of human diseases. Just something cool I wanted to comment :P Love the videos!
Arnt artificial sweeteners bad for you as it makes your body think it took up sugar and start up the sugar storing/digesting pathways, while you didnt take in any sugar and therefore get a sugar imbalance? (Also happy you are back!)
Prelim studies show an issue (again in mice) where calorie intake was subverted when artificial sweeteners were taken in addition to a glucose base. Artificial sweeteners alone did not. However, whether this affects human behavior remains to be seen. For the most part, artificial sweeteners do not (nor hurt) insulinogenic pathways or weight management.
You should've included this in the video, man, or make a part 2! I love your videos, but I immediately thought of that (being said by professors in the news in The Netherlands). Dealing only with cancer research, the video felt somewhat incomplete still
Always be yourself unless you can be a unicorn As I heard it, it's about the expectation of sugar and release of glucose stores in the body when tasting sugar, giving you a quicker energy burst when consuming it, as it's expecting new energy to come soon. The first couple of times you consume artificial sweeteners the body expects a refill but doesn't get it. Slowly it adjusts to not receiving energy when consuming sweet things and then when you do eat something with actual sugar, you don't burn the initial calories your glucose stores would've released if you had never eaten artificial sweeteners at all. From what I remember reading the article eating sugary foods is still worse than eating artificial sweeteners, but the bottom line was to just eat less sweet things, either artificial or normal, which seems like common sense.
Thank you for this video. I hate when ppl talk like they know about food a lot or go into the “super foods” route. Honestly in the scientific community we don’t know everything & new research sometimes contradicts old research & then back again. Some things are just fads.
What's your opinion on low intensity fasted cardio such as walking? I've heard the body does not start burning muscle until you reach about 80% of your max heart rate.
After that i only have one question. So why do we continue to do experiments on rodents and other living creatures if you cant be sure there will be same effects ?????
A video on cardio and how it affects gains / when to do which & which to do depending on what you want to achieve, would be appreciated :) (correct me if this video has already been done)
great topic- thanks for the info. It sucks that many protein powder brands use artificial sweeteners. I've been using protein powder sweetened with stevia but due to higher cost I have to switch to a brand which uses sucralose.
great and informative video as always! can you do a video on hypofunction thyroid and what to do not to do with it? I heard soy is bad for people with it....

C Man 4 sets per exercise not just per muscle group 16-24 sets per muscle group a week is optimal for most people according to most studies
Actually nailed this video! Future Registered Dietitian here and think you explained the correct points enough for the consumer to understand.
Thanks ;)
"sweet teners"
Thanks, I was looking for this. Now I can leave.

So shoving human poop into mice caused problems for the mice? Who would have guessed.
Let me guess...it depends?
Glad you're back though 😉
Amen
What are your thoughts on other sweeteners, namely Stevia and Erythritol?
I intend to address some non-sugar sweeteners down the line :)
PictureFit I can't wait till then
Stevia is better
Erythritol makes me fart like a crosstown bus!
Waiting...maltitol?
Sure glad you’re back man, whatever went with you I hope you figured/are figuring it out! We’re here for u like ur here for us with ur vids!

Definitely. If the issue is the craving for sweets, it's better to work on limiting that craving rather than feeding the signals.
Now that said, if you're trying to get off junk incrementally, I would say fake sugar is better than real sugar...for now. Baby steps.
It has helped to ween me off of sweets. I grew up in a diabetic household where artificial sweeteners are life. Literally! Lol. Everyone is different. If you don’t have will power and self control non of it matters anyways.
FrownyFace I lost my cravings for sweet food after my 6th month of cleaning up my nutrition. 6 months is long but its worth it

As always very good. Keep up the good work and thank you for educating us. Glad you are back 😊

You didn't mention Stevia. Great video by the way. Glad for you to be back.
I love this channel so much
Welcome back man! Missed you!
Glad you're back bro!
What I have learned from this is scientists are weird and just wanted a reason to shove human poop up a mouses bum...good job on the video like always
shawn gately Scientists do what is necessary. Its not fun doing these types of experiments.
First Last it depends on your definition of fun I suppose
LMAO XD

what about stevia tho?
That’s probably one of the safest ones out there

What about the link between Aspartame and Alzhiemers??
I play Overwatch competitive, I've developed an immunity to toxins.
You should do a video about different vitamins and what they are good for
do these sweateners increase your insulin level?

You should make a videos about samrs and their use in competitive sports
Could you do a video about "natural" sweeteners like Stevia?
cheers
Can you make a video after the timing to drink water? As in when to wait before eating, after eating, before working out, after working out. Too many different answers through different sources, I am confused and sad.
Great video as always. Is there a formula to know how many carbs should se consume?
will you make a video on merits and demerits of consuming soya chunks
Should I use Stevia or Sucralose? Some say that Stevia is harmful too, even tough is natural.
Can you please make a video about exercising while hungry or on an empty stomach.
Is it better to work full body or upper body then lower body? !!!Hope you see this question!!!

Hey Picture Fit, what's your take on examine.com's new research which states that having 40g of protein post workout will increase MPS by 20%? Also you haven't responded me on twitter.
Billy Meier: What interests me further is aspartame in particular, and what negative effects it can have. If you can say something about it, please.
Ptaah:
80. Aspartame is a flavour enhancer and sweetener that changes quickly after it is absorbed by the human body.
81. After only a few minutes it decomposes into its basic substances, namely methanol, aspartic acid and phenylalanine.
82. The methanol is transformed and broken down respectively converted into the nerve poison formaldehyde.
83. This poison can no longer be broken down by the body.

Hi, I've been using Xylit, based on xylitol as a diabetic. Care to take a look at that one? It's rather new
Hey picture fit I am 16 I have a question about protine powders are they suitable at this age????
are you not going to do live streams anymore?
Thanks for doing this. For a while I was using unflavoured whey protein and adding my own sugar and flavour to it. But it wasn't worth it.
please do a video on bloating stomach!
Can you make a video about vitamins and Minerals. How important are they for your gains??
Cam you make a video about not counting caöories and losing fat?
So if i train hard eat clean like i'm already doing , Can i daily drink one Diet drink ?
What about the connection between sweetness, calories, insulin production, and hunger (hormones)? It seems to me that artificial sweeteners could negatively affect that.
Why didn't you include stevia, the "natural sugar free substitute?"
Probably because it's not artificial
Stevia is a plant bro
Personally, after a long period of drinking diet soda with my meals when i try to lose weight, I noticed it takes away the fullness feeling to an extent that I can eat again shortly after !! Now I only use sweeteners for my hot drinks and I mainly use sucralose ... What about Sorbitol, malitol and xylitol ?!!
XYLITOL cuts my appetite, with no after taste, and its grest for teeth. Ask dr ellie Phillips
Can you do a video on stevia and other “natural” no-calorie sweeteners?
Anything about stevia though?
I keep saying "Ass par tuh may" why am I like this?
Great video. As usual.
I'd rather have one 12 ounce can of soda a week then have four 12 ounce cans of diet soda personally.
Please teach us something about Best bodybuilding apps .
No idea which is best.
Jefit is really good IMO.
A little cumbersome before you get the hang of it though.
I lost 20 In like 2 months and I drank Diet Coke often the thing was I was on a strict diet really chicken and lettuce and no carbs and I drank Diet Coke to not add extra calories and get some energy and some sweetness and it worked.
Hello :) How about Stevia, is that ok for weight loss?
Is it better to mix whey protein with milk or water? I think that would be a good topic to cover.
Milk has more vitamins and minerals but water is easier to get
Great vid, can u do a video on gyno
You should discuss sugar alcohols like Erythritol and their use (and lack there of) in protein bars
XYLITOL is good for teeth
theres just gotta be a way to satiate sugar cravings without poisoning yourself DEAR GOD HELP MEEEEEEEE
