It depends on if the chip we replace it one that has software. If your sent it in to us, and it's the one I am thinking of that we are waiting for a new part to arrive, it is not a chip that contains software so it should be plug and play.
This is our Contact Us page: nickselectronics.com/pages/contact You can either fill out the contact form or send us an email directly. Make sure to send us the part number of the unit along with any and all other information you may have. The more information we have the better able to help we will be.
I have a 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham and it starts sporadically. Some days it doesn't start at all.....does that sound like a BCM problem. The Cadillac dealers will not service 1994 around here. Mechanics have spent 2 months trying to find the problem.
Yes but I do like to use the Qtips because they absorb the flux better where as the tootbrush has more of an affect of spreading it around. I guess using a combination of both is not a bad idea.
@NicksElectronicRepair ... thanks for taking the time to read (and reply). Actually, it's a combination of both, as you say - the toothbrush for the crevices and hard -to reach areas and buds for overall clean.
Well, I guess that's more of an opinion but this is Kester brand solder which is a very renowned brand. The solder we use which I do have a link to in the video description is leaded solder. But I guess something else that makes me say it's high quality is the Rosin core itself is good quality rosin (flux) which helps get a really good joint.
Fixed my 06 volvo S60 by taking off the header and putting a new one in from a donor broken ECM. Knowing some basic ectronics is great these days 🙃 Wish i had that camera arm you have though, that thing is nice 🙃 Link me that ? 🙃
So the one we bought is no longer for sale. But you and many others are inquiring about it so we are going to purchase a few more that are newer, and available and review them. Once we find a good comparable one at a good price we will make a video on it and probably sell it on our website. But as of right now, I don't have a good recommendation that would also be at a good price point.
Looks like new vehicles will be difficult to repair because boards will go into protection mode and will need factory unlocking. Lets see how all these newer EV vehicles will behave. Flux and an iron won't be enough. Right to repair advocates have failed. Consumerism wins.
Yeah, you unfortunately might be right. Now this happens with CPC4 units for Freightliner semi trucks, but we have been able to clone the software and get the unit out of protection mode. It's not the correct and officially approved way but it works. The Freightliner dealership charges $600 for the programming. I believe and also hope that a company out there is going to figure out ways to get the software off these units so they can be reprogrammed, perhaps with AI there will be tools made available for this. Who knows.
The sarcastic solder joke is "the bigger the blob, the better the job."
haha that's very funny
Most impressed by your clean, neat repair job!
Thank you!
My BCM is being repaired, if the repair works will I need a reprogram from the dealer or will it be pretty much plug and play?

I have a bad BCM. My window, door lock, convertibles and alarm system not working. How can I send my BCM to you.

I am sorry I am not sure if that is the case or not. It is possible.
What do you set the solder gun setting to?
usually it's between 380c and 450c depending on the unit I work on and the tip I am using.
Could you have used a toothbrush to clean?
Yes but I do like to use the Qtips because they absorb the flux better where as the tootbrush has more of an affect of spreading it around.

Very interesting. Thanks! 👍
My pleasure!

What is the solution?
Please
I want to repair it myself
Sorry I can't help you. You would need to send in the unit for one of my techs or myself to diagnose. We do charge for this.
What is considered high quality solder? I know the old stuff with a bit of lead was better.
