    FYI they actually make a PVC base that allows you to screw the pipe down. That would completely negate the need to cut out the wooden insert.

    Ladies, shortly after you made the video, about a year ago. I followed your directions and made the post like yours. My cats love it. Everyday, several times a day they use it. Lot of times when they get up, they actually wait in line to use it. Sometimes they'll use it at the same time, one on one side one on another side. Very practical, will give years of use. I now plan on making one for my lady friend for Christmas and one for my daughter for Christmas. They both have rescue cats, friend has 3, daughter has 4 A few years ago, my daughter saw a kitten struggling out in the middle of this pond, a good size pond, here in Florida, my daughter knew this pond had gators and her boyfriend insisted she not go in. SOME SUB--HUMAN THREW THAT CAT IN. Pond was over her head my daughter went in with her clothes on and saved this kitten. I am very proud of my daughter. She is the manager of the grooming salon of PETCO, in The Villages. The kitten is solid white and she is stunning. Way to go Crystal!

    Nice efficient shop, very impressive. Nice tools!
    Glue and rope is a nice idea. I am very worried about my cats encountering staples or screws with their claws or teeth and hurting themselves.

    Hello, will try that but will not make a round base : my cat loves scratch posts but he likes to lay on the base, so that all of his weight goes on scratching and round bases don't allow that for him (they are not wide enough). Thanks a lot for this helpful tutorial !

    I like the pvc idea...I"m looking for cat condo...you also on a rebuild apply much more glue all the way up...cats can tear that rope or carpet apart!

    How did you know how much rope to purchase? What if you run out of length before you reach the top?

      We didn't. If we didn't have enough we would have just bought another roll and added to this.

    Though 7 months old still a great video helping people out. If you can do tou remember how tall your pipe was and how much Sisal rope you used. I'm hoping to make my bengal an 8ft scratch/climbing post and dont want to over or under buy the amount of rope
    Thanks

      Hi! It's about 23" tall and we used almost 50' of rope. Good luck with the project!

    what a diameter of a rope you used?

  • @thelazyjay3488

    Hi, as an owner of two baby elephants, oops sorry two tom kittens that have grown, I think you will need a heavier base plate to help prevent it toppling over. I have 2 shop bought scratch posts, which when jumped on always topple over till I fixed a larger base to it.

    Great DIY cat post, definitely want to try this out. Quick question though, what's the thickness of the wood used to insert into the tubes? Thanks :)

  • @angelafields3740
    @angelafields3740 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would of cut some small lines along side of felt to make it easier if by myself,also would do more glue,to make it last longer.

    Now that it’s been a while since you made this video I’m wondering how you like the scroll saw? I made a similar thing to mount to the wall as a step onto a cat shelf and scratcher.

    Great video! Thanks for sharing it. We wanna try it, although we have a question: how thick is the wood of the base? And what about the diameter? Many thanks!

    • @MotherDaughterProjectsDIY
      @MotherDaughterProjectsDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The wood round? It's 1in. x 12in. If you are asking about the wood we put inside the PVC pipe, it's a 1-1/2in. thick, 3.042 diameter to fit inside the 3" pvc. We have links to everything on our website: bit.ly/mdpcatpost

      @@MotherDaughterProjectsDIY , thank you so much for the reply!
      Yes, I was wondering about the thickness of the rounded wood base, because it should weight enough to give stability for the scratcher itself + not swinging while the cat is scratching it!
      I tried to open the link where the information about the material is (Home Depot link), however, unfortunately, the access is denied.
      Once again, thank you so much for sharing the DIY and the information!

    Hot glue will not hold the rope well. Cats claws will pull that out in no time.
