Denny Brownlee was the singer... a fantastic character voice over artist, singer and actor. I worked with him for 10 years. This was from his time on the john boy and billy.
RA, just googled and found the Denny Brownlee website with the story of this recording. Damn, so sad to come so close to a huge hit and not be able to ride the wave, as the site noted. It's immortalized as a Christmas classic now, so it will continue to play and make people laugh. Other than that, it sucks that he didn't get the credit he deserved.

I remember my dad driving two of my band mates and I to a school band competition around either ‘98 or ‘99. I was listening to music on my discman, and I started hearing the three of them laughing to the point of crying. The radio was playing this.
I wondered how this was interpreted by stutteres. I have a bad hearing loss, as did my mom, and we both have found so much humor in the challenges we face.

What Blanc didn’t know is that the recording engineers, who are laughing in the background, had kept the mic open and the tape rolling. The result was a recording that was this classic that was underground for many years.
Unfortunately that story is false... this is 'Seymour Swine and the Squeelers' from a mid-80s episode of the syndicated John Boy and Billy morning show. The singer is Denny Brownlee... he recently 'interviewed' Seymour, it's on TH-cam.

When I first heard the ding that Elvis Presley made famous. The porky pig version made me laugh so hard. Literally rolled on the ground couldn’t stop laughing!!!!
