I can’t believe Brighton let him go, he is one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, so much potential to be one of the greats.
Being one of the best premier league midfielders isn't much of an achievement when rice is considered as one even though he is a centre back playing in midfield.
Saw gilmour at euros. Tidy on the ball but didn't really create much. Same as his career with Brighton where he has a very low number of assists.
Not saying wee billie isn't a talented footballer maybe he will kick on in the serie a.
But if you want to talk about young midfielders with real playmaking talent. Then you have to look at wharton, mainoo etc.
Really ballers who surprise the opposition and do thinks you don't expect. Have yet to see that in gilmour.

Doesnt surprise me hoddle, scholes, le tizzier were all underused or abused by the fa.
Wharton played that mainoo kid off the park and was the key reason why crystal palace demolished man utd last season.
Not only that in his england debut he came of the bench against bosnia. And in 30 minutes completed all of his 39 passes. And he wasn't playing safe passes. His introduction changed the game. England were struggling and wharton came on and made bosnia look like minnows.
His talent isn't as obvious as mainoo as he dosent really dribble or do any fancy stuff.
But if you look closely at his game he is a much more complete player.
He is has more physicality, a better ball winner, much better passing range, better one touch passer, more two footed.
Not too say mainoo isn't a very talented player but he is a lot greener than wharton.
As for you boy gilmour Napoli is about his level. If he was English he wouldn't even make the squad. He looked at times for Brighton because they suit his game. But he had a very low level of assists.
I haven't seen much of him but Brighton fans rate him highly.

I wanted him at Madrid to replace Kroos. He has a dynamic presence in midfield with great passing, vision, is press resistant, good in defending, a ball carrier and great footballing IQ. What more can we ask for!
