Just when I was convinced the Minix was the way to go..the remote on this really made me sit up and take notice. Quick question though. The volume controls on the remote; do they control the volume through the android box or is it a universal learning remote and control the volume through the tv/stereo? Also since I don't have 4K should I expect no issues from XBMC? (I have a Plex server and I think there is an add-in for XBMC)
I saw that you have a 4K TV in this video I will assume that you may also have Netflix 4K streaming also if so how well does the Probox2 perform in term of 4K picture quality and ease of use with the Netflix App? Thank you.

Hi thanks for the great review! I have placed an order for one and would like to know what version of xbmc would be best for this box. I see in other reviews of the box people have changed the xbmc that comes on the box to different versions. It would be great to hear your response.
It dose look a lot like the Minix X7/X8. It can do UHD though and XBMC can play UHD videos. XBMC is in Alpha so that i imagine that bug will get ironed out soon.
SomeCoolTech The major issue is the codecs that all android devices have, but XBMC or KODI will have to accommodate that! Everyone I know has a problem when watching 1080P and above with the video either glitching to a un-watchable state or the screen freezes completely while the audio continues! I have a real computer with 1080P graphics built in with a HDMI that hooks up to my 55" Sounds and Looks perfect, no issues! I have a 500GB hard drive that I formatted and installed XBMCBuntu v13 and it's perfect, I also use a older Dell Mini 10 with a 8GB and it's a HD 720P, but looks perfect! I used a i386 version of openELEC v13.2 of XBMC without one issue! It's all about the Codecs!

It has a HDMI 1.4b, up to 4K** @ 30fps, Support HDMI-CEC that's the only issue it has! The problem is the GPU Octo Core Mali-450 GPU, up to 600Mhz if it had the Mali-T764 like the RK3288 would be awesome because that uses a v2.0 HDMI and pushes much more bandwith not to mention great for gaming also! For it only having a CPU = Amlogic S802-H Quad Core Cortex A9 CPU, up to 2Ghz can keep up with all your needs, but the Mali-450 is just cutting it for movies with 24 to 30 FPS and OpenGL ES 2.0 and not so for games that demand upwards 60 FPS and OpenGL ES 3.0... The Tronsmart Vega S89-H is the same story, but they just came out with a really nice Rooted version on 4.4.2 and now OTA and now with this recent update also starts and completely shuts off with the remote as well as this one does, but because there's no antenna, the wi-fi module heats up so I plug mine into a Ethernet Cable ... I know the Minix NEO X8-H is the same, but I don't think they'll release a Root version of KitKat like these two... XBMC has well known codec issues with android devices running hardware acceleration with the video not sure about the audio though, but works fine if your not streaming FHD, 4K and just playing a downloaded movie... Wait until you test the new Ugoos Brand UT3 box - new 2.0GHz 2G+16G Android4.4 Quad Core RK3288 Smart TV Box with High quality Firmware, dual band 2.4/5Ghz WIFI, Bluetooth 4.0. Anyone able to connect the installed xbmc app to an nas/server? I can't. The installed ES File Explorer mounts my qnap nas instantly. The xbmc app can see top level (directories) but not any files when a source is added. Definitely not a protcol or permissions problem.
Yes! Actually, I'm watching a show right now, it is great. Lots of options/addons to choose from. The sound and picture quality(720-1080P) is great also.
I bought one of these and whilst it is pretty good I ws a little disappointed to find apps like livestream.com (the main app I use for TV) doesn't work on it, meaning I still have to just plug my old android phone in, in order to watch TV. Anyone had any luck getting that app working?
I am using Minix Neo X8-H. Probox2 is much better option than Minix. Custom ROM and rooting sucks in Minix. Antutu bench mark is way below in Minix. Save yourself from buying Minix...

MrBrymstond I got 22000 in my Minix. After trying with beta and custom firmware, my device heats up a lot, freezes often and very slow Now I downgraded to version 7, but still not happy with it's performance. Without built in thermal monitoring I am unable to give the exact temperature, but it's quite hot. Since I bought Minix three months back I don't want to change the device for now. Based on my experience, my next device will not be Minix. I decided to wait for the OTA update
I bet this box has an antutu cheat in the code, mostly seeing that it come pre rooted, iv heard of different companies doing this, even minix got caught.

Looks like they copped the neo x7 and copped Roku remote . So it can't do 4k or UHD in XBMC. So is it an lot cheaper ??

But does it display 21:9? I have a VIZIO cinema wide TV and the Minix x8-h left me with black bars on both sides creating a 16:9 video.
