I really appreciate this. Everyone, fans and haters, mostly view Deathcore as angry brutality, but Lorna Shore is showing it has far more range than that, which is healthy for the longevity of any genre of music.
Dude, you just unlocked my high scream... with your comparison to tone shiftinig when clean singing. I have spent too much time trying to "feel" the right things instead of just letting it happen. So much more relaxed, so much better tone. Plus I find that I'm holding my mouth kinda open like Will does in his One Take of To The Hellfire. Thank you so much!
I am not a vocalist in any form. However, I love watching your videos. The way you breakdown the vocal technique etc. really makes me appreciate how special these vocalists are. Will currently being my favorite of course 🤘🏽
I subscribe to the idea that the song ends as abruptly as life does. We as the audience really feel its absence. We are confused and lost a little, unable in those first few seconds to accept that the song has come to an end, and search for alternatives like mute buttons or internet outage. First stage of grief is denial. Lorna shore absolutely crushed it here.
@@schustererik83 true, but as a standalone song I interpreted the end as the death of the woman in the video. Just... stops. Thats what death is, from one second to the other a person stops existing.
This song has an abrupt ending because it does indeed go straight into the next movement of the song (attacca), but on its own it's also an effective artistic rendition of the suddenness of death itself. It actually reminds me of the ending of Wintersun's song "Eternal Darkness (Autumn)" from their Forest Seasons album (you really ought to listen to that album if you haven't already). That song also has a great artistic rendition of death.
This is the first metal song to make me tear up. And it happens every time I listen. This is a big song. I hope it gets the respect it deserves. Will is talented beyond belief. This emotional side is so heavy for them. I hope they really utilize that in future songs.
hey Mark the second part dropped today. very emotional issues they are touching upon. I know that Adam said he was going through alot when he wrote parts 1-3. Amazing so far. Much love to you and the family brother.
Will Ramos is an absolute animal and so unique in his own way! And I feel he has so much more to give us in what I hope is a very long future with Lorna Shore. Love your work ✌️
Also, regarding the cathartic nature of this song, Tank mentioned in his reaction that Adam (lead guitarist) was going through a really difficult time in his life when he wrote the music in this album. It's no doubt to me that most of his emotions went into the Pain Remains trilogy of songs.
I had the exact same reaction when I first heard the ending. "What?" I was so confused, but I just heard part two the other day, and it LITERALLY picks up on that same exact note. It's a very flawless and seamless transition.
Everyone's first comment on the song is how abrupt the ending is. Now that we've heard part 2 it feels like if the cut was just a second later the change wouldn't be so jarring. Conspiracy time: the cut, at least as a prerelease single, is supposed to be jarring, it's a song about the sudden loss of a loved one. You dont get the cathartic outro, you get your heart ripped out and left to suffer.
It's super badass ass listening to kardashev and then hearing your demonstrate in these videos and talk about all these techniques...love your content, mate.
I've listened to this song a handful of times and the abrupt ending still gets me. For me, I've ended up linking the lyric "Where do you go when I close my eyes?" to the abrupt ending, almost like that sudden stop is the closing of the eyes. Probably thinking too deep about it, but I always smile a little when that ending hits. It's weirdly jolting. Loved the video as always 🔥
It’s interesting that you draw the pop music comparison. Both Will and Adam (if memory serves) have mentioned that they draw inspiration from pop music in writing songs for Lorna Shore.
I can't BELIEVE you said that pop music- now that I have your attention, great video full of insight as always! This track took me and everyone by surprise and I can't wait to see you analyze the next 2 parts, 1 of which dropped today! Have a great day
Love both pain remains songs so far, excited for the 3rd :D It also amazes me that will can do this with asthma. Also the rest of the band is fantastic :D Complete package. Part 1 flows perfectly into part 2 on spotify for me with crossfade on at 0 seconds :)
This song seemed more as though it's less about him focusing on his technique and more about putting his emotion into his voice. Sometimes a more pure emotional voice in music is more powerful than anything else. Will did a great job of expressing emotion in this song. It wasn't crazy with insane gutturals (lower tones) and breakdowns. Sometimes in this genre it's a huge relief to have a song like this rather than the constant brutality. Hope to hear more bands explore it in their own way.
It’s easy to miss the forest for the trees in metal, thinking the brutality & maximalism can “seem” like someone is throwing caution to the wind. Where, in reality, doing these type of vocals requires a lot of control. It may not be plain to see, but this channel does a great job at breaking things down.
Dude I would LOVE to hear you react to early Candiria vocals. Pages perhaps? I've still never heard that tone on another hXc/death metal singer period!
Dude I’m BEGGING. Please react and do an analysis of sacramentum ov filicide by nitheful. This song is so heavy and the vocalist (Derrek Connolly) is so unique and horrifying. I’d love to hear your thoughts on his voice

I used to always play black/red creature destruction decks. My uncle made a deck that had a fun combo that would mill me out of cards almost every time I played him 😅
A great abrupt-ish ending is in Woods of Ypres' Death is not an Exit, where the lyrics say "death is no flick of the switch", and then the song ends with a flick of a switch
I think what really sells the emotion on Will's voice at the ending, aside from the yelly type of screaming is the enunciation. He knows how to get really disgustingly heavy by manipulating his vowels but in this bridge the lyrics needed to be listed and the dude delivered.
It cuts off so suddenly because the next song continues right where the other left off, as well as Pain Remains II cuts off, not as abruptly but it’s a lead in to the Pain Remains III.
Now you gotta do Pain Remains 2 do 10 seconds of this song before you switch over to pain remains 2 so you can get the full scream and roll over effect like it will on the album
Actually an interesting point when u mention, you would like his voice to be a bit more forward I had talks with other metal people and when talking about Lorna Shore they mentioned that aswell. That they like Lorna Shore but Wills voice is often rather burried under the instrumentals.
The voice forward I think is being buried by whomever they're using to do the production. When he does the One Take vocals, I think his vocals sound way better than the mastered production. He sounds a lot more forward and you can hear just the raw vocals... So good!
Lol coming here a few days after, and they dropped the new song the day after this video XD I take no shame in admitting that I like some pop music. I'm very heavy centric, but pop songs can be fun. Not to mention fucking sick metal covers (I used to listen to a lot of our last night). I'll listen to almost anyting Pink does, brittney has some really fun songs like if u seek amy, bad romance and poker face are actual jams (I've always wanted a decent death metal cover of poker face. I love that synth intro) The cut at the end really bugs me lol. I listened to it when it premiered on youtube and I straight up thought the "stream" died but it makes sense when paired with 2. The 2 together is just a fucking orgasm and a half
