And... after a failed recording session with Rubin in 1993... back to Bob Rock for the excellent self-titled album - and never again with Rubin: smart move, actually.
It's really weird that after recording The Witch, they changed their minds about working with Rick Rubin and went to Bob Rock instead (again.) I wonder what really happened there, although I love their work with Bob Rock, I always thought Rubin would give them what they needed in that period of the band (and music scene in general.)
I have no idea. It was Ian's statement though. Ian is not a big fan of Bob Rock produced The Cult records anyway and he said bad things about them. Sonic Temple, Beyond Good And Evil. And in the EPK of the self-titled album he also looks pissed off. I wonder whether he liked this last album or not. On the contrary I think these are their best records.
beautiful ... shame that the video clips have been cut
Ian and Billy are best friends ❤️

The studio tans are just fab! Funny. Who needs Lonely Planet with these two as Californian guides. No tights on this tour!

How did they explain the imitator-statement to Bob...? Nice to see Billy so vivid and funny.

Rick Rubin ended up producing an album for Tom Petty instead so he wasn't available to work with The Cult.
They made demo's for a new album with Rick, but those never saw the light of day....
Very cute and funny.....
I had no idea that the Cult liked the Beastie Boys? and respected Rick Rubin?
