I still remember these two like it was yesterday! The charging cradle for the original 3DS featured that door in the back so that you can swap game cards without taking the system off the cradle. As for the SD cards, the 3DS had a 2GB card while the XL got a 4GB one. But all in all, this was a very well-explained video from start to finish!
Nice video! I remember when I got my original 3DS back in 2011 as my Christmas gift. It was one of my first Nintendo systems that I ever got. Also, Nintendo never included a lanyard strap with it.

I got my 3DS in Aqua Blue around the time it came out, so many fun memories with that thing! I still got it! I eventually got a Red New 3DS XL (never had the original 3DS XL so it was already worth it for me).
I know i'm late but I just bought my 3ds xl this year. Is my first game console ever. So I went to buy it with my dad and brother and we were both excited lol (I was a little bit more than him). The console is the XY red version exclusive and is used so it has some scratches but it dosnt bother me. My first impresion was like: "this is more havy than I thought" lol. But yeah, i'm so happy with this console and i'm going to use it every day til is no longer working. Edit: sorry for my bad inglish!
This brings me back to a lot of memories and when I had my purple 3DS I got my birthday back in 2014, I played it to death, my only big complaint about the console it was just way too small for my hands, but it was still an awesome system. I think it's still awesome even to this day. Thank you for making this video!
Same here! I got my 3DS XL after my 6th grade promotion that year, though mine was the Mario & Luigi dream team exclusive one. (The design of it was awesome!) I played that to death before getting my Nintendo Switch in Jan 2019. It's now just sitting on a shelf with my other retired handhelds which goes in the order of the Gameboy Advance, DS Lite, DSi, and now 3DS XL.

But I only had it for a short time because the person that had it before me killed the battery it would only last for an hour to an hour and a half I wasn't thinking at the time that I could of just get a replacement battery since Nintendo is still offering them on their online store, but as of now I have an Blue 3DS, a red 2DS and a Wii U.
Fun fact: the absolute same 4 Gig Lexar SD card also came with the oldschool 2DS. I know, because I had an European Pokemon Omega Ruby bundle with a special transparant red 2ds. I guess they had some sort of deal with Lexar.

Later at school, my friends and I, were talking at lunch about system I should get. They told me that an Xbox 360 would be a better choice, and after school, me and my brother were getting pick up from my dad. I told my dad that we should go to the store and buy an Xbox 360. He said, we aren't going to a store, and I got sad. When we arrived home I was sad and went to my room. A little bit later, my parents called me to the kitchen and my dad pulled something from the fridge. A bag from Kmart, and it was a Nintendo 3DS Cosmo Black version and my brother got a Nintendo DSi Matte Blue. I was in shock and I was so happy opening the box, although my brother was a bit sad because he wanted one too. But he enjoyed his DSi. My unit didn't have a charging cradle, and I think that was it. But the box was the same. It came with those manuals, I would regret throw those manuals away later. My brother still has his box. By the way, the flap on the back of the charging cradle, is if you want to change the game cartridge, but I think that was it. Still have mine, still taken care of with it's official carrying case. Although recently I bought the official cradle of Amazon and it's great. The reason I bought it because back then after a year of owning it, I broke it, by tripping over the charger. It broke the charger port on my 3DS and my brother's DSi. Since that day my 3DS and my brother DSi, were stored in their carry cases for years until a few months, when I bought the charging cradle for it. And left it charging for a few hours, it turn on, and I was surprised that it would turn on to begin with. I have old videos of me when I was younger, and the Miis I made are still there, almost like if it's a time capsule of that certain time period. Battery life is still great on mine despite not turning it on for a long time. Although I haven't fixed my brother's DSi yet..I haven't found the parts for it. By any chance you know where I could find these parts? It would be best if i found the charger port the 3DS and have mines fixed, but I'll fix it at a later date. My first video game system and it's a cool system in general. Sorry if my comment was long, but I appreciated this video, great video!
I think the engraving on the XL model was done in an effort to make a cleaner look. Printed text and symbols stick out more than if they were engraved.
i know i’m late but i believe the lanyard strap came with the nintendo 3ds circle pad pro. i know i got one my self for kid icarus uprising and it did come with a strap. hope this helps!
The only thing I can think of for why the back of the cradle is hinged like that is so you can take game cards in or out while it’s in the cradle but why would you want or even need to do that?
I got the 3DS on the left Christmas 2011and I got the one on the left the 3DSxl for Christmas 2013 and I got the newer version of the one on the right in 2017
Just got my 3dsxl today gotta say I do like the larger screen and when comparing it to my og ds i see the difference. My only gripe would be when you open it (like with yours) it makes a loud click sound, it make me nervous and want to just open it as slow and gentle as possible. Also the hinge at the top left is a but chipped so it gives me concern as well, but overall its nice(bit heavier as well). Nice vids btw
in 1:44 you say'd that the box is huge but actually in Europe the box is even bigger than the US and Japanesse one in the box the manual is the size of a book due to well been sold in Europe and having all the langages in one manual because i own a original 3ds the super mario 3d land bundles it's big
I was deprived lol. I bought mine used. I never had a charging cradle at all and had to buy a stylus What I love most is how much Homebrew you can do with it. Mine is very modded lol I didn’t get much out of streetpass and spotpass either. Kept hoping for the Eon Ticket for ORAS but nope I’d have got Aqua if it were possible but GameStop just had purple I swapped my back panel for an extended life battery which I still love My 3ds had a 2g card not 4. Weird.

As someone who used the original 3ds quite a lot, the start and select buttons are horrible on it. They're not touch-sensitive, they're just regular buttons under a very crappy film that is very prone to wear and tear. After a couple years of use that film develops creases and starts looking horrible, on top of simply not being pleasant to press.
The main problem of the first 3ds model is that it doesn't last cosmetically. Glossy plastic scratches like crazy, start and select buttons wear out, the silver paint on the back chips and worst of all, bottom screen border leaves permanent lines on the top screen. And while 3ds xl might feel a bit cheaper, it's going to keep looking good for much longer.

Ur lucky u got a 4GB SD card with ur original 3DS. Most original 3DS consoles came with 2GB SD Memory Cards
