    $51,000 for that... Holy shit. And that's with no lighting, heating/cooling. Don't see any outlets etc. Sounds like someone got drug on labor costs. I'm so thankful i live near amish people.

      I had three bids from different companies ranging from $48k to $58k. The issue was material costs, not labor. Post COVID world I guess. Thanks for tuning in to DWG, I hope the video helped.

    Dam, that looked very clean and well done. You look like you got your moneys worth. That's is alot of storage room. And you looked like you needed it. And some companies have men that do that every day. You got the right people in place that work together well they can build. Done patio homes, 4 units in one building. My self and one man ran 4 vents out the roof in one unit. They built 2 more units in a day. 8 homes. They had a picker (Hydraulic foreclift) prefab walls nail guns air driven. They was fast, built under roof with tar paper.

    Thanks for making the video. Question: Did the builder give you a breakout of material vs labor? If so, what was the provided material cost? considering doing one of these myself this fall.
    Getting that building up in 3 days is impressive.

    • @DoWittGarage
      @DoWittGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for tuning in to DWG! I didn’t get a breakout of labor vs. materials. However, I work alongside construction often and would assume the labor was near $10k, concrete from $10-12k, and materials for the balance. You might look at Menard’s if you haven’t already. They offer materials kits that are pretty up to date.

    the lowest quotes i was getting in early 2024 were in the $65k range in ohio, with one coming in at $95k for a 30x40x16 with 2 14x12 garage doors and a 10 foot lean on one side. the prices have literally doubled over a couple years.

    • @DoWittGarage
      @DoWittGarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No doubt. Hate that yours were so high. My uncle was quoted around $20k just for a lean to on his 40x60. I naively thought I could build my shop for $35k or so when I set out. My head was stuck in 2019 prices! Thanks for watching.

    Built my own for less than 20k (but alot of labor and screws and I own a backhoe and actually had some help from a neighbor and it was a 24x36 w one man door and one garage door). Nice build. Did your shop have sheathing at all? Thanks for the video

    • @DoWittGarage
      @DoWittGarage  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      No sheathing on this one. I figure with the 27 gauge metal and roof purlins every two feet it’ll be alright as far as structural integrity. I also plan several inches of closed cell foam that ought to tighten it up further. Thanks for watching!

    I am looking at doing the exact same thing except 30x40. I'm not sure how high to go. I am wanting a small loft for storage, do you think you would be able to add a functioning loft with 12'?

    • @DoWittGarage
      @DoWittGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I do. One of my future videos will be adding a storage loft in the rear of the building with an 8 foot ceiling height beneath. I would pay attention to your truss design (standard vs. scissor) and spacing. Mine are on 4’ spacing, and in between them I have a full 16’ clearance to the peak. That should allow plenty of room for storage for my needs.

    • @mountainbikerkowboy4575
      @mountainbikerkowboy4575 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely, but would recommend a 4:12 pitch roof to give you more loft room. I have a 40x60 w/12 ft eaves and 4:12 pitch - it's almost 20 ft in dead center of building. Plenty of room for a loft area.

    • @markmelton8676
      @markmelton8676 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mountainbikerkowboy4575 do you mean 6/12? I would think you would have more room with a 6/12 than a 4/12 or am I wrong?

    • @kevinbprice7448
      @kevinbprice7448 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @markmelton8676 yes, you would definitely have more room with a 6:12, but that's a pretty steep grade if you ever have to walk on it to make repairs or clean gutters. I was just recommending it over a 1:12 or 2:12 - which you see a lot of farm/ag buildings have.

    • @DoWittGarage
      @DoWittGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markmelton8676 For reference, my building has a 3:12 pitch placing the center at 16 feet high. I am subject to zoning constraints with no buildings above 16 feet. I would check with your local department if you might have a similar instance. I'd say a 4:12 pitch is most common and would put your peak height at 17 feet with a 12' sidewall. Hope this helps!
