    I saw Fogerty back in 2007 and he put on an amazing show, his voice hasn't aged a day. - to me, he IS CCR.

    •  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Voice hasn't aged a day? WTF are you listening to? He sounds like a screechy, squawking old man.
      Just another over-the-hill old rocker who doesn't know when to quit.

    John Fogerty was CCR. He was the lead singer, Lead guitar player and song writer. He Left and everybody sued him. What has the rest of the band done since just play the casino circuit. Listen to John sing Mystic Highway He still has it.

    I don't blame John for feeling the way he does towards his former mates. After he wrote the songs, sang the songs, and played lead and arranged them, they sided with the Fantasy Records Execs. I think he showed them he didn't need them .....

      Fogerty created the mess. HE - alone - negotiated the bad contracts. HE shut his bandmates out of any of the business decisions.I don't blame Doug, Stu, and the late Tom for feeling the way they do about this whiney, blame-everyone-else-for-my-bad- choices, self-absorbed dictator. Talented? Yes. A total jerk? Yes.
      He made his bed, he can live with it and have those who helped him create his dream and believed in him, hate him.

      @theccrbandakathecajuncount3747 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @ WRONG! John Fogerty took control of the band because the other guys didn't know WTF they were doing. The bad deal was signed by all of them. They wanted Stu's dad who was an entertainment lawyer to look over the contract. Whether he did or not, he said his dad said it was OK to sign. Then old Saul offered CCR to buy "10%" of the shares of fantasy. In actual fact it was 11% percent of the 10% they offered. Lets not forget the Castle Bank deal where they ALL sued Fantasy for stealing their money in a bad bank investment. John Fogerty ALLOWED the other members to file a joint case with him to get the money back, since the statue of limitaions ran out when they decided to file. Let's not forget, graciously gave them an equal share of the songwriting royalties for the first four albums. Evil Saul was the sole cause of the relationship in this band and alone for that he should BURN IN HELL!

      Kind of the same thing that happened with The Band and Robbie Robertson. Not that familar with the story of Creedence although very familiar with their music. Anyway, Robbie got tired of being the caretaker for the other guys, Richard, Levon and Rick were all doing heroin. Garth was introverted so it fell to Robbie to take care of business, so to speak, accountant, publicity etc. He wrote all the songs, and after a several close calls, car accidents etc. he felt it was time to get off the road, before something really bad happened. Rick had already had a near fatal accident, and Levon and Richard were getting into car accidents more than once. I not being judgemental, I love all The Band members, probably Rick Danko is my favorite and then Robbie, but they all had exceptional talent, but the fact is heavy drug use took it's toll.@@theccrbandakathecajuncount3747

    The people in this thread bashing Springsteen need to get their head out of their rear ends and listen to more of his music. It just speaks of jealously. He is the greatest American songwriter we have besides MAYBE Dylan. He is the only songwriter who wrote a song, "Highway Patrolman," whose storyline is so complex and rich that it was the basis of a major Hollywood motion picture - "The Indian Runner" - that was directed by Sean Penn and had several big name actors like Dennis Hopper. It's mentioned it the opening credits of the film. I can think of at least 15 songs from Bruce that Johnny Cash covered while he was alive. Soul legend Sam Moore said Bruce was and still is the greatest live entertainer - black or white - in the history of rock/R&B music. Sam said in his prime that Bruce was the hardest working man in show business, and he blew James Brown off the stage. Bob Dylan asked Bruce to elect him into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame because he felt that more than any other American songwriter, he felt he shared the most in common with Bruce. And the reason why John Fogerty wanted Bruce involved in his induction is that in addition to admiring The Boss' songwriting, he had the one thing that John never had: a band that understood that the guy who sings all the tunes, writes all the tunes, produces all the tunes, etc., is the band leader. He calls the shots period. As sax legend Clarence Clemons once said, "Bruce is so great and spiritually so powerful with his songs that I submit to him. His vision is my vision. I submit to him, and I allow him to lead me wherever he may decide to go." And this is a black sax player we are talking about. If Bruce where a phony he wouldn't have led a half black/half white band from 1973/74, playing his own songs and his songs only. John deserved the same devotion from his CCR brothers, and they screwed him over. The people who hate Springsteen are either envious of the fact that critics love him, or are under the delusion that songwriters are not supposed to sing about socially and politically relevant topics. If that were the case, we wouldn't have Dylan or Woody Guthrie. Of course many of these people don't realize that Bruce grew up dirt poor with a manic depressant alcoholic father who lost his hearing in a non-unionized plastics factory and beat him,. They also don't get that Bruce didn't make any money in the music business until 35 YOA due to bad business deals, not selling enough records, or his devotion to never taking a single dime from his merchandising (it all goes to food banks). You write from the entirety of your experience. Case closed. You have a right to not prefer someone's music from a personal taste perspective and to not listen to that artist's albums, but to objectively deny its greatness and immense influence when there is so much evidence to the contrary is the essence of stupidity, jealousy and close-mindedness.

    Stu Cook, original bassist for Creedence, told Fogerty after he had sold his voting share to Saul Zaentz of Fantasy Records (who worked against Fogerty), that he got tired of making decisions about what compilation albums the band's songs should go on. There’s little honor on either side of this war, but to me it’s obvious that barring Stu and Doug from the stage was a spiteful, arrogant move by John, with Tom’s family (and Tom himself - in an urn - present at the ceremony). 30 years later he is open to a reunion but Doug and Stu want no parts of him.

Plus, they treated him about as badly as it’s possible to do, and they still make a living out of playing his songs. Good riddance.

    CCR got voted in as a band, so as difficult as it might have been, with the wounds apparently still fresh, this was the one time John should have sucked it up and played with his bandmates. It seemed weird to see him on stage alone, knowing Stu and Doug were somewhere in the building. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

    • @brotherabe
      @brotherabe 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, he should not. He was good enough to share songwriting with the band and they stabbed him in the back with it.

    Jesus. I could care less about whatever is said about Springsteen's talents. I think he's a hack, a butcher. And, he's got a shitty voice. I'm goin' on 35 years as being a steady-gigging musician. And, I've been really open-minded, but, I just cannot, for the life of me, spot the crazy talent he supposedly has.

      +Steve Mills I think it's just a feeling. An attitude. Sort of like The Grateful Dead. A million bands could probably play better then them but that's not really what's important. It's how you make people feel. It's why I love Americana and Bluegrass. It's just so real.

    • @constructivecritique4049
      @constructivecritique4049 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, with his style of vocals, I imagine him in the studio's dimly-lit vocal booth, sitting on a custom-installed commode, with his acid-washed Levi's down around his ankles, taking a shit, as he's cutting his vocal tracks. That's the "feeling" I get from his vocals. Now, that would be the only 'real' feeling I get from his vocals. And, the thing is, I wanna like the guy, as an artist, but, I just can't.

      I could name you 40 songs that are better than anything Waits ever penned, starting with the song Highway Patrolman, which is the only song an American songwriter has ever penned that inspired a multi-million buck Hollywood Motion Picture (The Indian Runner) due to its complex storyline. Johnny Cash also covered at least half the songs on Nebraska and many other Bruce songs.

    Even though he was the main everything, he’s still not as good solo as he was with the band. A classic case of a band leader thinking that the others are dispensable. They’re not - a Rhythm section like CCR had, and band chemistry (regardless of what’s going on behind the scenes) can not be replaced. At the same time the band should have accepted that John Fogerty was the main creative force. Such a shame for the band and for us all.

      Example: After John released "Old Man Down The Road" CCR Bassist went to John's nemesis, Saul Zaentz, owner of CCR record label Fantasy Records, and told him he should sue John for making records that sounded like CCR. Would you forgive and play with a backstabber like that?

    John got burned by the record company, so when Stu & Cliff wanted to continue as CCR without him, making $ off the songs he wrote, I can see some grievances. I've met John. He's a very nice man. The music biz is enough to turn just about anyone into an ass, just ask the guy to John's left (Robbie Robertson). Similar story for him and his mates from The Band.

      His "band mates" ruined his life for 20 years, sued him for songs that HE wrote, success that HE made come true, a band that would never had been what it is if it was'nt for John Fogerty. Sorry for bad english.

    • @tommyfender1968
      @tommyfender1968 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DaddoFatto94 It wasn't his band mates that sued him, it was the record company that he walked away from and the snake record exec, Saul Zaentz.. he is the one who sued. He also sued John for "The Old Man Down the Road" sounding too much like "Run Through the Jungle"... which John wrote. His ex-bandmates never sued him.

    • @bobbillings
      @bobbillings 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Tommy Burick. Yes they did sue him. Tommy, doug, and stu sued him for the castle bank canadian royalties, then they sold their voting rights on purpose to saul. And they sided with him with the vans cant dance, run through the jungle/ issues as well. He told them outright too the night before the RRHOF he would not take the stage with them so they played innocent to the crowd in retaliation that they were shocked and left hangin when he sang with the other band only due to pressure from the organizers that he perform ccr songs. Those three and the record company fucked him way before this. They can all go suck a dick, John was and is the soul of ccr

    Too bad that John couldn't of buried the hatchet if not for one night only. By excluding his former bandmates and playing with Bruce and Robbie John was almost saying look at me boy's, I'm playing with my HOF buddies and you guys are nothing..Everyone knows John wrote and sang all of the songs and is resposible for the CCR sound more than anyone in the group but to do this was a low blow IMO..

    • @bobbillings
      @bobbillings 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Prior to this, it was not even customary for industees to perform their own songs. He fully told them the night before this he would not take the stage with them. He was not going to perform at all, but orgznizers pressured him to perform. The band mates retaliated by acting dissed to make him look bad when it was already planned to go down like this.
