As a Paramedic with 16 years of EMS experience... this is my advice. It’s rewarding but the pay/benefits aren’t really that great. You’re young, work towards becoming a Doctor or even a nurse. There are Nurses that work in the field like Paramedics and get paid a lot more with better benefits. But if it is your dream to be an EMT, and you’re not doing it for the money, go for it.
Performance Tactical Gaming hahaha listen to this guy. EMT’s don’t make much. I get paid 15.50 an hour to deal with some very stressful and unpleasant circumstances at times. I love the job and I’m young so it works but when I want to have a family or live a little better I’ll have to make the change.
Getting ready to test for the second time failed the first. Watching the videos and being a part of the program has helped me a lot since I finished class in December and the shut down put a hold on testing. #emt #paramedic

I've been a pharmacy technician for 24 years and have gotten nowhere with it (every HR department has slammed the door in my face). Instead, I volunteer in a hospital twice a week which has allowed me to keep my BLS certification active for free. Then last year, I was traveling around the country, working at vaccination clinics for FEMA. I learned that I enjoy working with a variety of people and not staying inside a building all day. Tremors in my hands would probably make it difficult to start IVs, so I probably won't be a paramedic. However, I'm currently being vaccinated for Hep B and when I can sign up for the spring class, get a TB test. (Both are requirements in Washington state)

I've been trying to start my own business as a firearms instructor for a couple years now, but one of my biggest hangups has been having medical personnel on standby should anything go wrong (because you can have a lot more fun, and a better learning experience in a safe environment). Getting ready to start EMT-b and then paramedic school this winter to ensure just that - a learning environment where atleast one of the instructors (me) is trained and capable in pre-hospital care. Because massive hemmoraging and tension pneumothorax won't wait for an ambulance to arrive. #emt #paramedic
Here in Quebec, we have the most backward EMS system you can think of. It takes a 3 year program to become a Primary Care Paramedic (which is basically an EMT-B: can give oxygen, aspirin, nitro, naloxone, Ventolin, epinephrine). An ambulance carries two EMT-Bs. Advanced Care Paramedics, which you would simply call paramedic, are practically non-existent here aside from two cities, Montreal and its suburb city, Laval, in which they only exist as pilot projects. Currently, we only have 10 advanced care paramedics working in Quebec. It requires a 2 year university major on top of the 3 year degree to become an EMT-B and the minimal 2 years of work experience as an EMT you have to go through before being able to apply to the university. 5 years in total (minimally) if you want to be an actual paramedic.
I took EMT but will need to retake of course, when I worked 911 for my county for a while tho the main thing I learned about the difference between EMT and Paramedics is that paramedics are able to do IVs and deal with more meds but other than that that’s it and we’re the busiest county in Kansas. In EMT we had to study ekgs and recognize when heart attacks may occur and stuff like that.
Sort of. There are a couple other more invasive procedures that paramedics can do. Like intubation, needle decompressions, chest tubes... Also they learn to read ekgs more in depth. EMT's are taught to look for ST elevation. Where paramedics can see all kinds of different arrhythmia. Most instructors where I live, tell us to work in the field for a couple years before we decide on paramedic school. A lot of people turn out to absolutely love being "just" an EMT ( I hate that phrasing, but I couldn't think of a better way to say it). It will also depend on who your partner is. Some paramedics only let their EMT partner drive and fill out paperwork. Where other paramedics let the EMT run the show unless ALS is needed.
EMT B was interesting. I thought EMT/B was not too difficult and passed fairly easily...then I graduated to EMT/P School thinking it would also be a breeze...LOL!! Paramedic School is giving up basically a year of your Life. Very difficult. But, I felt like I really accomplished something.
Going into my senior year of high school this year and heavily considering becoming a paramedic. I'm wondering if college is necessary and if so what exactly do I study?
I would start by taking an EMT Class locally, this doesn't require college at all. Once you complete your EMT and start working you can then go from there. A bachelor's degree/traditional college I don't recommend for starting off in EMS. EMT Class first. You can prep for your EMT class/EMS with my online video course here in the meantime: www.prepareforems.com Be Great! Evan, The Paramedic Coach
Still waiting on my instructors to input course completion so I can test NREMT, I’ve been using Evan paramedic for all my studying needs. Love Evan. #emt #paramedic
Hey Steve, not sure where you live in the world but in the US, an EMT Program is usually 3 months/12 weeks and Paramedic programs are 12-18 months, then if you WANT to pursue a degree you can after while working and getting experience.
in most places you don’t need a degree. my cousin is an EMT and everything only took 1 semester for him to complete it. (depending on where you live) you need to be CPR certified, finish EMT school, take the test and pass, and get state certified so you can actually become an EMT
Thanks for this video, it is very informative. My biggest worry is about having someone’s life in my hands and making the wrong choice. I’m 22 with diagnosed adult ADHD. I’m not dumb but I make a lot of small silly mistakes because my mind wonders so often. What do you recommend I focus on to better prepare myself?
Daniel, I have had many ADHD students, your ADHD is actually a huge asset in EMS, use it as your "super power" embrace it. When studying use alpha waves to focus on the content while you study. Thanks for watching and been a subscriber!

I plan on becoming a firefighter but know I’ll need a second job to make ends meet, so I plan on becoming an EMT as my second job because to be a firefighter you need the training a EMT needs, so I’d be killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Eventually, I’d like to make it even further and become a paramedic and a firefighter, but I first must become an EMT.
I’m 17, turning 18 this year, and I don’t know how to get started on becoming a paramedic. Should I call a fire station and ask about the programs they have ? Thank you !! Your video helped with many other questions I had !
Hey my friend, I just left a message on your other comment, I'll copy and paste it here for you too! No you don't my friend. The first step is joining a local EMT class and passing that. Next, you will gain some experience working in the field as an EMT, then you can applying to Paramedic school, which for example you can find a certificate course at a local community college or EMS academy. You be a licensed Paramedic and no training as a firefighter, two separate jobs. Be Great, Evan, The Paramedic Coach

Pretty much
I really wouldn't say that
Not exactly...
It's more like an EMT is a CNA on the ambulance and the paramedic is like a nurse on an ambulance
Broad stroke purposes sure. EMT is like a CNA, AEMT is like an LPN, and Paramedic is closer to like a NP/PA on the ambulance lol

Thanks for the comment here and watching the channel! Welcome
Awesome video dude!
You can prep for your EMT class/EMS with my online video course here in the meantime: www.prepareforems.com

#emt #paramedic hey Evan, thanks for this give away! Starting up my first job soon and this would really help me out. Thank you
We have a couple of ambulance services in Louisiana that hire emr’s to work on the bls trucks.
That's pretty cool!
Just started watching, hoping to take NREMT #emt #paramedic

Glad it was helpful!
Still waiting on my instructors to input course completion so I can test NREMT, I’ve been using Evan paramedic for all my studying needs. Love Evan. #emt #paramedic
Just finished NREMT. #emt #paramedic
Thank you. #emt # paramedic
I dont wanna get a degree or study like 4 yrs. But some say it only 12 months thru apprentice.
@@TheParamedicCoach omg thank you for this! I also have ADHD and anxiety and focusing is the HARDEST thing for me to do along with remembering things. I’m just scared i will forget what to do in a crisis moment
About to start my classes for EMT! #EMT #Paramedic
Nice!
Great information!
Glad it was helpful!
Just got a 97% in biology. Really working towards this goal
Good Stuff Jackson that's impressive!
Great game plan
EMT starting medic school in the fall looking to go flight
That's awesome CJ!
Be Great,
Evan, The Paramedic Coach
thank you you helped me undarstand
Glad it helped!
