The Alabama Crimson Tide has on several occasions had 98,000 fans show up to their Spring scrimmage game before a season begins. 4 starting quarterbacks in the NFL were Alabama QB's - Jalen Hurts at Philadelphia Eagles, Mac Jones at the Patriots, Tua Tagoviloa at the Dolphins, and Bryce Young at the Carolina Panthers. Derrick Henry and Mark Ingram were Alabama running backs too.

One major reason the attendance is higher in college vs nfl is that some of these big college football programs are at universities with large student bodies. The students get season tickets for very cheap. For instance Ohio State’s stadium capacity is around 110,000, but they have over 50,000 students that attend their university. It’s a huge part of your college experience and they don’t want to miss one home game.

I enjoy your reactions across all of your platforms - and it's fun watching a British family & friends enjoy American sports. Something i would point out about college football players - as talented as they are - almost every single player you just watched wasn't good enough to have a career in the NFL. That's how difficult it is to play professional football. It's always fun to me to watch college players - there's something pure - even innocent about young men playing a sport for the love of the game itself - sure each player dreams of a professional career - but they're not ignorant - they know the odds are against them - most know their level of talent (some overrate themselves and are delusional) but they still play - for the love of the game. Almost every athlete you watched - that was their pinnacle - and the end - of their playing days. What became of them? I hope something good. We will never know. But it's fun to watch. Thanks for your reaction and thanks for posting this one.

The first AF game was played in 1869 between two college teams, Rutgers and Princeton, using rules based on the rules of soccer at the time. The NFL, which came into being officially in 1920, only has 32 teams with some states having 2 or more teams verses nearly 900+ colleges spread throughout 49 states. College is were the rituals, traditions and pageantry began like tailgating, cheerleaders, halftime shows, music, etc. . Less than 1% of college players get drafted into the NFL and if drafted, you still have to fight to be a starter at your position.

Loyalty also plays a factor I think - something that is often lost in professional US sports that international soccer seems to maintain. Often in the NFL, NBA, or MLB, players sign with the highest bidder every few years. Not many demonstrate devotion to an organization. It means more when you know the players are fighting for the team.

College football is wildly popular. Games are parties hours before the game start time. Even small colleges can draw 10,000 people. High school games routinely have 1,000 people. A lot of of schools are making a great deal of money off of football games. It’s a big business. Remember, no player is paid anything at all to to play. The National Collegiate Athletic Association ( NCAA) works real hard at making sure of this. Players also have to maintain a minimum Grade Point Average in school. Players are college students FIRST and athletes second.

College/University level sports is the Goldilocks area for sports. Everyone has a high school with some amount of high school sports team and those are found in every neighborhood. Only major cities tend to have major league sports teams. College athletics are spread out enough where every state has at least 1 representing university or college, there's usually rivalries between both in-state schools and other "notorious" long lived "feuds", and generally speaking the players are a bit better. They aren't paid for their performance on the field, which is something being considered, but they go full bore every game regardless. There are a bunch of NFL teams that honestly half-a*s it until they get to play that one team they really hate or they are trying way too hard. But they end up getting paid because they're on contract and have little to really lose in the end besides "pocket change" in the form of sponsorships. College athletes are looking for sponsorships and to be scouted by "the best" professional teams out there, so they're trying to strut their stuff every game. It makes for a better experience overall when you know that losing is something truly undesired for the players.
If you doubt me then just look at the Detroit Lions. NFL team, never been to the Super Bowl, still is around and their players are still being paid regardless of how their season's going. Meanwhile nearby, Notre Dame's Fighting Irish in Indiana busts their a*ses to be a prominent name in college football. None of the players are being paid aside from their own sponsorship deals, but they've really been one of the "who's who" of college football for a good few decades.
You NEED to show Sophie one of the "Big Man"/Fridge play videos. Just to show what happens when a less nimble player gets a hold of the ball.

I'm sure it's been mentioned below here somewhere, but one of the main reasons college football is bigger than the NFL is because it's much older than the NFL. The roots of the loyalty to the universities are often far deeper in families than their love of an NFL team.

One of the main reasons why I love college football over NFL is because players are playing for pride and tradition, and the fans support for pride and tradition. Meanwhile, NFL players are just playing to get paid, and don't really care about the organization's tradition or pride.. That's what made college football magical and superior to the NFL.
But I think that's changing now, since they're allowing NIL.. Now players are going to be playing for money, instead of pride and tradition.. So the player and fan relationship will turn into being a transactional relationship, rather than a compassionate relationship.. Thus the relationship and pride in the program is going to deteriorate, and we'll soon be talking like old men reminiscing about "how great college football was in our day." And younger people who didn't experience it will blow off our critiques and blame it on us just being old.

2:50 Going off from what Daz said: there is WAY more passion and pride within the communities. Alumni, college students, kids who are in high school looking at colleges to go to. And also, the tradition stays the same more than the NFL. Mainly because the schools are a lot older, as well as, it's more of a family event with tailgating; compared to the NFL. The NFL rigs a lot of games anyway, so more people are turning off NFL games.

Naji Harris is going into his second year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They expect big things out of him this year.
The NFL plans on expanding into Europe one day, I believe they want 4 teams there. They haven't mentioned what cities, but I can't fathom London wouldn't be one.

Bo Jackson ran a 4.13 40yrd dash but it wasn't recorded at the combine. John Ross recorded the fastest 40 time at the combine at 4.22. He was a wide receiver out of Washington State.
College programs are huge locally. NFL teams like the Steelers, Bears and Raiders have fans all over the country. It's just a more refined game and better skill all around in the NFL. Check out the local Raiders Pub in your area, Daz. I bet there's one.

I think Bo Jackson is the greatest RB and overall athlete of all time. Not only was he fast, he was incredibly strong and had excellent hand-eye coordination.

NFL is typically pretty boring compared to college football. They usually play a game or two of NFL and of college over there in the UK, but honestly it's not going to compare to going to a game here, on a college campus. And I'm not talking about Rutgers, but somewhere with passionate fans. Most SEC programs will have decent to elite tailgating (outside of Kentucky, Missouri, and Vanderbilt) and a fun game atmosphere. Best atmospheres will depend on current record, opponent, and gametime (morning is the worst, then afternoon, with night games being the best), but typically you can't go wrong with (alphabetical order) Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas A&M.
