I knew the US system was broken, but I didn’t realize to what extent.
This ruling is not a ruling of scholars, it’s 1000% political and very dangerous.
To all celebrating Trump supporters, I hope they realize this also applies to a democrat president. I didn’t think things could get worse, but they definitely just did. The US was barely a democracy before this ruling, now it’s officially moving towards an authoritarian state.

OMG the gynocentric emotionalism is just insane these days. Immunity for government officials for certain of their acts has been in the law since the Founding. Note, various immunity doctrines don't make one above the law; the inability to pursue certain actions in a court because of legal prohibitions on doing so isn't outside the law or above it; it is the law.
Take the so-called Speech and Debate Clause that immunizes congresscritters from arrest, questioning or prosecution for anything they say inside the Capitol. They're not above the law because they can't be arrested for speaking their minds without constraint; our law is designed so that people who are elected to those positions can say what they like and be answerable only to their constituents at the next election, and not to the justice system which, often enough, will be controlled by partisans belonging to a rival political faction.
Unlike you, the Framers were bright and realized that if you want to an intelligent system where people who wield power are precluded from doing certain things to certain people, then you have to make a law that protects the people who would be the most likely targets of abusive use of those powers. Hence, immunity doctrines. They've been there in the law since the first day of this country; indeed, it purports to be, and in fact is, part of the Supreme Law of the Land.
Our Founders fought a revolution and, in a painful reality Hogarth would recognize, well understood what it felt like to be the victim of abusive officers of the crown. Most of the rights of citizens in the Constitution and all of the restrictions on government power, agencies, and personnel are designed to protect the very people who most often suffered at the hands of those excesses and denial of rights.
