Huge heads up. Tee Vee lives on. Hidden Side seems to have created a new or alternate version of him named Seymour Tee Vee in the set 70436 Phantom Fire Truck 3000. I have you to thank for having me remember Tee Vee.
Great video! Alpha Team definitely has one of the most interesting stories behind it. I find it kind of funny that LEGO rejected the initial concept of the mixing various genres. They ended up doing just that with in 2014 with The LEGO Movie, or even in 2010 with LEGO Universe if you count games (which is what Alpha Team initially was). However, LEGO's decision is understandable given that a few years ago they had tried something kind of similar with Time Cruisers / Time Twisters, which didn't seem to fly. There's also the point that general set design quality in the late 90s and early 2000s is considered by many to have been at an all-time low... perhaps due to LEGO's brick library consisting of a strange mix of classic bricks, bulky and highly-specialized parts, the first of the modern Technic beams, and the sleeker slopes, curves, and other elements which are standard in sets today. The designers were only just starting to get used to the newer building styles. Something like The LEGO Movie sets may not have been feasible back then. In case anyone is wondering how Monster Fighters connects to Galaxy Squad, there was a comic in a LEGO Club magazine that showed the end of the Monster Fighters storyline. Lord Vampyre gets beaten, and his moonstone-tower-thing explodes, sending a large beam of light/energy into space. The last panel shows a view of Earth from space, with the Buggoid ships noticing the large energy beam. I guess they didn't really do anything about it for a while, though, since Monster Fighters appears to take place in a far earlier time period than Galaxy Squad. en.brickimedia.org/wiki/File:Lego_Galaxy_Squad.jpg It wasn't the first time LEGO themes have been given connections by LEGO Club magazines. There was once this longer-than-usual comic from Nov-Dec 2011 issue which connected Atlantis, Pharaoh's Quest, Alien Conquest, and Dino (2012). When I first saw it back then, I thought it was one of the coolest things LEGO had ever done.
I remember reading that four-way crossover comic and thinking it was the dopest shit. Iirc there was a cliffhanger ending that never got resolved, which sadly is pretty typical for Lego storylines :(
@@kumatorahaltmanndreemurr The cliffhanger was that the alien commander is apparently somehow responsible for unleashing the dinos from Dino (2012) as his final tool to take over the earth. I don't recall that Dino theme ever getting a comic in the Club magazines, and that origin story for the dinos also seems to contradict the origin story in the Dino Outbreak game: th-cam.com/video/LY8PmU3o-IQ/w-d-xo.html That game does end with the dinos being put back through the portal, so I guess at least the Dino theme itself does have a resolution.
Wow this was a very interesting episode. Although I know a lot of things about lego themes and history I never knew that lego Alpha theme was originally lego logic.
Alpha Team was hands down my favourite line through the years. The tune of the intro cutscene of the game always gave me the chills *DUM DUM DUUM DUUUUUUUUuuuuuuum*
i got most of the sets from the last wave. as a kid, the gimmicky red filter and pieces you could look at through it kept me entertained. the skull base was cool, and i really liked the transformable ski-jet thing. and Ogel's giant scorpion was just BADASS.
Really cool to know the Alpha Team game was the birth of the Lego set. I was like 10 when the first theme came out and played the game at some point but never realized which preceded which. Currently I have the entire lineup of Alpha Team sitting in a few boxes without the room to display them. It was the one theme that really stuck with me for some reason.
My best friend when I was younger had an indoor swimming pool. We were LEGO kids and anytime a submarine type set came out chances were he'd have it. We spent hours diving with these sets and creating our own. I have very fond memories thanks to these sets they incredibly fun.
One of the cool things we discovered with set 4794, is that when you take off the arms and you throw it under water like a paper airplane, the propellers keep the stability for a while. It was difficult to throw underwater but I remember we were able to keep it straight for about 2 feet before it would lose momentum and float. Another thing we'd do is spend the better part of a Friday building an underwater seabase. We wanted it to sit at the bottom of the pool so we filled the baseplate with rocks. Unfortunately, we didn't submerge it properly so a lot of air was still trapped inside. We both swam to the bottom of the pool and when we surfaced there were parts all over the place. We looked back down to see nothing but a baseplate with rocks. It might have seemed like a wasted afternoon, but it was very fun.
