Love what your doing man im a groundskeeper in goodyear arizona at the Cincinnati reds spring training facility we just started this process getting the fields ready
Great to see how this work is done on a sport field. That's allet would be a dream to operate let alone own it. Would like to use some of this processes on my home lawn.
Hi, thanks for the kind words. I don't follow the same process with the outfield, because of time purposes. I do a pretty generic overseed with a lot of shortcuts.
Sand and peat mix is far better, helps hold a little water. 95% sand 5% peat but it cost more due to mixing. Pure sand will eventually cause layering and need for more water. Due to drying out
Great work as usual. Love the new mower. Are going to put more seed on those bare spots? We are going to start doing our field on Nov 15th. Hopefully the weather stays warm and the prep goes well. Wish me luck.
Great job! Looking to do something similar for our high school field in Wisconsin. Right now, we have lots of weeds/crab grass growing on the infield, would you recommend spraying for weeds before you mow to 1” and dethach? You have this type of weed killer that supposedly kills the weeds/crab grass but not the actual grass. Thanks for the help!
I use Speedzone Southern for weeds, however it won't kill crab grass. I haven't found anything effective that will kill crabgrass, but not everything else.
have you ever heard of rhizome split aeration, also called other names depending what state you're coming from? They look like thin ninja stars instead of plug aeration. You cut the runners in two directions and they sprout out faster than over seeding "Bermuda Grass"
Do you keep your players off the field during the fall? We do fall baseball where we are and don't get done until the end of October. What type of grass do you recommend for cold climate areas? GREAT VIDEO!!!
There was a lot of rocks in it, and it kind of clumped up and hardened up in spots. I actually found a few chards of class, which I couldn't believe. I had used it before last winter to level before SOD and it was great. In regards to the germination rate, that wouldn't be affected, but the Silica sand is so easy to work with, is perfect for leveling, never has any other material in it and it drains so well. The only downside is the cost.
What would be your suggestion for amount of seed needed to overseed a baseball infield and outfireld, roughly 2acres. We are trying to contract out as we are new coaching staff for our team, and we have received different amount numbers from 100lbs(from former head coach) to 400lbs. Do you have any suggestions?
This was a fantastic video but without a quality mic it was hard to understand and where music was added, Well, I had to give up on you demonstration. That was a disappointment because it could have been a classic tutorial.
NOTHING more satisfying than watching a baseball field get proper TLC. Good work sir!
Thank you!
Was looking at doing this to our infield this fall. Very helpful video to help me figure out the process.
Thank you. Hit me up if you have any questions.
Coach......great video! Thanks so much, I appreciate it. I'll email you specific questions.
Great stuff Coach. Thank you for sharing all of the information!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Looks awesome dude! Great video
Thank you!

Love it Coach! Looks great. Little jealous of your weather down there.
Thanks buddy!
Great video! Very informative!! ⚾️🏟️ Do you follow the same process in the outfield? Thank you 🙏🏼

Awesome video. Thanks for the info. We rent dethaching equiment usually not in the best shape.
Looks good, but you should’ve gone with Fescue. JK😂. We can’t wait to get going at GV. Thanks for all your great info, coach!

Great Video! I know you didn't like the topsoil mix, but how much top soil did you have delivered for the infield?
I believe it was 4 tons, if I remember correctly. 55 bags of those bags, so need to do math conversion

Would love to see the progress! Yes I threw down a little extra late this week in some spot.

Are you basically referring to verticutting?
@@CoachTooz no not as aggressive, and less stress to the turf. But yes that works well too, in the off-season
This is nice.... i wanna do this to my lawn.....
Great work!
Man I would love for you to come down to my little league in San Diego and take a look at our fields and give us some advice.
Hey, I don't get down to San Diego very often. I wish I could get down there. Beutiful city!
@@CoachTooz we’re up in north county. We could use your expertise!

We are off it for about a month to a month and a half or so. Definitely use Perennial Rye or KBG for cold climate. You can even do a mixture of both.
How many yards of soil did you use?
Great video!
Thank you
how much sand is required for a project like this? I have a high school field in central Indiana that needs some love!
4-5 tons
@@CoachTooz thank you!
What didn’t you like about the loam, what benefits do you anticipate by using just sand next time? And does that affect the germination rate?

Why do you like perennial rye for the field (eg as opposed to other types of grass, blends, etc.)?
Germinates fast, looks great!
Tip- cut the music so we can hear you.
Thank you for the feedback. I will definitely consider in future videos
What do you use to cut your straight edges? Walk behind edger, handheld shaft edger?
Regular edger

Depends upon type of seed. Email me coachmatuszak@gmail.com if you have specific questions or want help
What height did you cut grass to prior to dethatching?
1". Sorry for the slow reply
What was your height of cut at the end ?
1"
what kind of seeds you use
Perennial Rye

Sorry about that. I'll work on getting a better mic!
It would be cool if we could hear words
You should turn up the volume, might help
Great video but why the masks ?
School required masks due to covid

Never mow up the cores - rookie mistake .
Thanks for stopping by. Works for me, and I'll do it again this year.
@@CoachTooz robbing yourself of free nutrients
It made sense to me to mow up the cores specially if new top soil gets added
