I personally think bass is actually redundant, because you can barely hear it... not that I want to discourage you or anyone playing it or anything. It's just that I don't see its use. After someone elaborating on my channel as of recent about bass, I sorta get what it's supposed to imply... but it's still too subtle to notice. Other instruments are more dominant and can actually be heard, so bass is recessive... and in my opinion doesn't add much to the melody. Feel free to agree, or disagree. I've heard to be wrong, but I prefer not caring about what others tell me in regards to subjects that don't really pique my interest. So in the end, opinions are subjective, and I certainly won't see the world how it is for others, and vice versa, which is good the way it is. It's not like I wanted to offend anyone with my opinion now... it's just my opinion, which I care about, unlike about other opinions.

My bassist teacher once told me (I had the same issue about recognition with the bass) to, on my iphone, take out the bass for all my songs and then play them. Yeah, they all sounded okay, but without the bass, it felt like all the songs were empty. If anything, try that, you'll definitely like your songs with the bass; of course, there are songs out there that don't feature a bass. Even the most recent pop songs, however, at least have some usage of a bass guitar. Hope that helped a little.
