     Jabber Tech thanks. You didn't mention the switch settings on the box (that can be configured on the router homepage) "no function" "wired bridge (router/bridge), repeater/bridge (WISP/Bridge), Open VPN (on/off). It would be nice to know what to set (if necessary) for this button for 1) connecting to hotel ethernet on the road or 2) connecting to hotel wireless on the road. also, captive portal hotel pages often require DHCP>DNS settings> UN-check DNS binding or it won't come up. I've gotten this to connect by random clicking but would love it if it were explained in the notes and comments of this well-cited video

    Thanks a lot, great video. I tried to configure my VPN by installing DD-WRT on a spare router, and that was a little over my head and I bricked the thing. I'll definitely be picking one of these up.

    That's not 6 MegaBYTE as you said. the speedtest is showing 6 MegaBITS. the conversion is 1:8. So your router is slowing down your speed to less than 1 MegaBYTE per second.

      This is just a travel router and should not be used as a primary router, it just isn't fast enough for multiple users streaming flix. If you're just streaming one movie at a time it would be fine tho. I would look into an asus router that can be converted into a Merlin router. I did some videos on that as well, if you search my channel.

      Best of all that it's OpenWRT, and there are several versions you can flash to it. The downside is the dismal VPN speeds. I've read that the AR150 which is based on the Atheros/Qualcomm processor is much faster. By the way all their MTxxxx series are based on lame MTK chips.

    Jabber I have a question. I just ordered one of these. I need something that will give me my own private Network to protect myself from hackers, but not a VPN. The specific thing that I'm trying to accomplish is to be able to use online gaming sites while traveling, while having a secure connection. I can't simply use a VPN for that because gaming sites can detect it and it's not allowed. Do you think this device will work out for me? Thanks

    I've been researching around and wanted to know what would be the best option to go about with regards to public WiFi with captive portals. I'm a student and would like to create my own network with SSID/PWD for my smart devices and the Chromecast. I can settle for a more powerful router as it's not essential for travelling.

    • @TheJabberTech

      +Skybox FAQ yeah connected via the ethernet cable is optimal with great speeds but most people will use this as a repeater when away. But a good way to connect to a fire TV, or android TV box and have it route through your VPN. Thanks for the thumbs up on my video, appreciate the feedback!

    I travel a ton and use ExpressVPN to access broadcast content through my U.S. provider on my notebook. I also use the software VPN to protect my data when traveling in hotels. But I have a Roku stick and would love to use it on televisions in hotel rooms. The issue is that it will connect to wifi but my US cable provider will block content because I am out of the country. I need a VPN route with OpenVpn to resolve this, but I need hardware to be a convenience, lightweight and easy. I really don't understand the details of your video and how to upload ExpressVPN to the GL.iNet. Any chance you can do a video which goes step by step to help me from start to finish and then I can travel easily thereafter?

    • @TheJabberTech

      Sorry but I have never used expressvpn. With torguard you just download the config file and upload it to the router... Simple as that. I'd imagine that expressvpn, or any paid vpn, should work the same way.

    Great Video. but I cannot find a video showing how a mini router/repeater would work with, specifically, unsecured free hotel wifi service, without an ethernet connection. I do not care about speed, I need a secure connection. I think you show how your mini router can connect to your existing service, vs the WISP connection.

However it would be the exact same procedure to connect t to an unsecured wifi hotspot as I did connecting to my home wifi network (I didn't connect to my ethernet connection at first, I connected to welcomeGuest which is my wifi) . Basically select the network and connect, but instead of a password you'd leave it blank. Hope that helps u!

      +rayan saloom once you set it up it's done. Of course if you are using it as a repeater at a coffee shop, you'll have to connect to different wifi each time but the setup of the vpn settings is only done once. This and torguard are awesome!

    In the repeater settings there’s only one option to insert a PW/Key. However the network i’m using asks for both username and password as an authentication method How do I get around this when there’s only one field to enter a PW?

    • @TheJabberTech
      @TheJabberTech  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it will not work as a repeater for that type of network.

    • @flyingpumpkin783
      @flyingpumpkin783 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If what you mean is a captive portal, I use a device to enter the P.S./username for that page. Either that or I log in with a device (i.e. the phone) , then "clone Mac address" on the router and access it with all my devices through the router that will now appear as my original device (i.e. the phone)
