Here in the Pacific northwest we pick wild blackberries in August...today was my 4th pick. I picked on August 6th, 12th, 19th and then today. I'll go back out again in a week. After I wash them I just measure out 4 cups and bag them up so they're already measured out for baking. If you've never picked before I suggest long pants, long sleeves and sturdy shoes because you're going to be placing your feet in brambly/thorny areas where you can't always see well. I also use a special basket that I don't care if it gets stains on it. Happy hunting!
We moved onto a property with acreage last summer. During the build, we were unhappy about the amount of “briars“ that were in the surrounding woods. Come summer as we visited the property before closing we were delighted to discover they were wild blackberries! We also have muscadine grapes. Super awesome! I found that rose pruning gloves are excellent, they go all the way down to your elbow and are meant to deter thorns. I even found some in kid sizes.
I remember living in VA and there was a giant black raspberry patch on the property. I wish I could find some of those here! Guess I'll just have to buy some canes and try to grow them once we buy property here.
They are pretty much everywhere around here. If there are woods near by you can almost guarantee blackberries are present. I have some planted but just planted them this year so they won't start producing until next year.
So this is the first year I’ve noticed I have lots of these bushes out back. I picked some, what I could reach but the bushes go back deep. How do I get the ones in the back? Do I just trample the ones in the front? I have zero experience and the ones I have picked are quite tasty.

What do you think this year considering its been pretty cool so far? Mid to late august?

They can be so grabby!!
Lots of blackberries in my neighborhood, looking forward to harvesting this summer!
They are pretty plentiful around here too.

Nice! We have wild raspberrys, but not nearly as much as that!
We have a few wild raspberries but generally only get a handful of them.
My son loves picking blackberries
I do to. Well I like eating them more than picking them but I still enjoy picking them all the same.

Hard to beat a sweet warm black berry from the vine. Vines also make a great defensive barrier. 😉
no kidding. Nothing is coming through a blackberry bush to get you. :)
When I harvest them, they have a hard middle part that comes off the plant with them. Is that just supposed to be eaten or...?
Wild blackberries are the best. If you can get past the thorns & wasps, it's worth the trouble.
nice haul, gotta make a crumble out of that :)
not a bad idea. I made cobbler and jelly (have videos on both of those too) out of these but crumble would be good too. :)
nice might try a jelly when the next lot have ripened :)
Let me know how it turns out. It is one of my favorites (and everyone else around here too).
What type of camera do you use
My primary camera right now is a Cannon Vixia. I have a go pro I use sometimes as well (especially in fishing videos).
