Thanks for all these videos and it’s great seeing you both and Lucy in all your videos, delivering solid and useful content. Your channel is super informative and every video has fantastic information and tips for prospective dog parents (more so those looking at GSDs). Lucy is really such a darling and so well behaved, kudos to you on the stellar upbringing and training 😁 I’m from India and I’ve always been a golden retriever loyalist for a couple of decades. I recently lost my (well lived) second golden at 14 and was looking at a female German shepherd this time around. I’ve placed an order for a female puppy at a reputed GSD breeder here and that will take a few more months to materialise. Stumbled on your channel meanwhile when I was looking up female GSD traits and have been hooked on to your videos ever since 😄 thank you so much for your channel, and especially to the queen Lucy. Looking forward to more of your videos 😄👍🏼
I'm one of the lucky ones Zac and bought my house in the early 90's so it has a decent-sized backyard for Rosie to run and play in. I defy anyone who is thinking about buying a German shepherd to look into their eyes and not fall instantly in love with the breed, they are a beautiful looking dog, intelligent, and very loyal. I love how their ears stick up Like a radar tracking sound in a certain direction and how soft their ears are too. Rosie loves having her ears rubbed as I talk to her hanging on my every word as if she understands. She has become a real sook lately, maybe it's the 3-year-old stage kicking in but she often jumps up on me as I'm sitting down just to give me a couple of licks on the face as her tail wags at a million miles an hour, Her way of saying she feels so happy and so loved to be living with me. Rescue dogs have their own set of challenges, but over a year and a few months, we now have an unbreakable bond.
I have 2 German shepherds and live in an apartment in the USA. I pay no Pet fees & can no longer get denied to rent because of her breed because I got my Doctor's note approving them to be my EMOTIONAL SUPPORT ANIMALS! 🤗🐕🐕
Our Hunter is the same, so calm, relaxed and obedient and wants to be with the family. He loves playing in the park and luckily we have a number of parks near by but one right next to our home.
Im so happy seeing these videos about GSD, I fell in love with them and Im rlly just learning everything I can about them so when Im gonna get them one day, I want to be prepared for it!! Right now only have a Toy Poodle since my parents don't like big dogs, because they're just not a fan of it, but One day when I get a GSD I wanna prove to them that these guys are just as lovables as the small dogs!!
Wow, you guys are doing so great caring about Lucy. 👏👏👍 That's true that you don't need to have a huge space to own a german shepherd, but a huge input into mental and physical training!
Wonderful video. We had the same problem many years ago when we were looking to rent and we had our GSD. You will find something and it will be amazing for all of you. All those landlords rejecting because of Lucy don’t know what they are loosing because they would be lucky to have such amazing people and Lucy.
Also thought I should mention that I own a German Shepherd and I have twenty acres of back yard. If I don't keep up with regular physical and mental exercise, my Mischa would be just as misbehaving as a German Shepherd in an apartment who got the same treatment. It isn't necessarily the size of your back yard, but the work you put in to them to keep this active, intelligent breed satisfied.
In Hawaii I find that there are places that say pet friendly and there is a weight limit if 25-30 pounds and that is also in hotels. This is crappy because I want to be able to take my Shepherd every where we go. My Shepherd lives in my house and I love it. There is mega hair but isn’t that why vacuums were designed for. I have always owned only German shepherds and I would never trade that for another bread. I love watching your videos. Thank you so very much. Aloha from Lanai City, Hawaii.
Just thought I’d let you know that at least here on the main land I’ve never been turned away by Motel 6 in regards to my German Shepherd/Alsatian dogs being welcome guests in their rooms and I often travel with as many as 3 of them. If you have that chain in Hawaie you might check with them regarding their policy on this issue.
Love your videos...I recently adopted a four year old male German Shepherd from a lady who was moving back east and couldn't take the big dog with her. Fortunately (for her and me) she found out from friends that I recently lost my dog in a car accident. Don't worry, the dog, a 75 pound 2yr.old pit bull mix, escaped without serious injury; he was built like a tank. Not so for me, I wound up in hospital for almost a month with serious, near death injuries. Obviously I could no longer care for him so I put him up for adoption. Happy ending for him, he was adopted in three days to a very good family. (Sorry to be so wordy). but to make a long story short, Max is a wonderful loving dog, who is helping me heal from my injuries, and he has taken to me as though he'd been with me since he was a puppy. Happy ending all around...Rio, my pit bull. got a great new home, and Max and I have become the best of friends forever.
I'm so stunned that there discriminated about a large breed of dogs when it's a friendly dog place housing. There should be a law agested that I think. I'm sorry u guys r having problems with getting a new place I hope everything works out for u guys keep us updated please. Tc have a wonderful week.
Hello Zac, Felicity and Lucy! I’m so sorry to hear of your problems in regards to finding an appropriate home for your family in Sydney. Sounds as if home prices there have become as ridiculously absurd as they are here In SanFrancisco! On the subject of incredibly stupid and ignorant prejudices regarding German Shepherd/Alsatian dogs one thing that has worked for me in these situations is I’ve gotten glowing and fawning letters of reference for my GSD’s/ Alsatian’s from previous landlord’s in fact they’re more complimentary and assertive of my dogs then they are of me! 😂 LOL!!! I believe my dogs have been more effectual in securing housing for us then my financial bonafides! Often it only took my insistence that they actually meet the dogs in question! That would often turn the equation into one of understanding that the dog or dogs far from being a liability were in fact an asset when it came to security of all who lived in the area. I have used this technique for years now having had 8 GSD’s/Alsatian’s at this point in my life. Seems to me that these “Landlords” just need to see a couple of your videos of Lucy with a letter or two from previous “Landlords” or neighbors to have a better understanding that she would in fact be an asset rather than a liability! I wish you better luck and success in the near future in finding an appropriate home. In my opinion you all certainly deserve it!
Yes the new fears my boy is 10 month old so besides the 10 month “jerk” stage as we call it here. We back to basic training to you out kinks but one that shocked me is he is afraid of stairs. Our home is fairly flat on ground maybe one step into our home. My mother in laws home is the complete opposite. And he is terrified of them. So now I’m trying to work out how to work on this at home
I have a male German Shepherd and I live in a tiny house with 320 square feet. But I do have a very large yard. I do take him out for training and potty breaks. I wish he loved toys like balls or rope toys. But so far he is against them. German Shepherds are wonderful family dogs. But like you said people say that they are a vicious breed. But these are the ones who knows nothing about the breed.i hope you find a house soon. Plus I have had trouble in the past with home owners insurance companies because I have always had large dogs.
Now I now what has been upsetting girl at night she was barking at night when I went out to look it was bats flying from the roof to the trees will start training her tonight thanks for that
Thanx for sharing. When you talked about Lucy’s anxiety about the possums has ever seen a possum? Like people GSDs are afraid of the unknown. The fact that she can hear it and not see it is pretty scary to her. Is there any way you can take her outside (on a leash) so she can see one would help a lot. That will help establish the mind set (oh it’s those critters outside not to worry)
That’s so funny, my German shepherd is the exact same. My bf is the “alpha” and they go on walks and to the park and he is the stern one, and I’m the cuddler and the one who feeds her. But she listens to me just the same.......we live in an apartment in the US, we never had a problem with her breed being an issue though. I have seen apartments name German shepherds as not an acceptable breed though smh
Hi guys,I am also having trouble with a family +relatives of possums. If you have any suggestions to help;I would love to hear from you.I live in a suburb of Adelaide and some nights have up to 8,jumping from the trees in my backyard, males fighting etc.I have had them for 11 months now and have seriously considered selling my house.I have an 18mth male GSD who chooses to sleep in a kennel outside.I look forward to windy nights so we can both have a good night sleep.LOL.Not true,I'm not laughing anymore. They were cute 10 months ago but I'm well past it now.Any suggestions.Do you think I should try to get him back inside in his crate?I know he doesn't like being inside at night as he is a different boy when sleeping inside compared to outside.I want him to be happy not the damn possums.
I have a question: Have you found that Lucy was ever reluctant to be physically affectionate? As in, more than say a golden retriever. My little one year old GSD is working line so perhaps it's in her breeding to simply work. But she can be a little unwilling to cuddle, or even to pet. Wondering if it's a German Shepherd thing.
The majority of GSDs are not so cuddly lol. I had a show line and now a working line and my working line is affectionate, but doesn’t like to cuddle, I always wonder if it will change in the future lol. It was the same with our show line girl. It comes with the breed, but I also think it depends on the character of the dog.
@@Jenny20824 As someone who has only ever had one German Shepherd it makes me wonder if it was how I brought her up, so I had to ask. I love social media for that reason 😄
@@inkwhiskers9948 Do not worry, it is not your dog only. Cuddle time with my working line GSD would last 5 seconds maximum 😃, that’s the way they are, but there maybe some GSDs that like cuddling. GSDs are the most wonderful and loyal dog breed in the world and the head tilting is the cutest of all ❤️ Social media is awesome!
omgosh thats the same with my girl snd the blavk cats at night coming back yard at night i reallt thought my house was haunted like that turns out it wasnt i caught the cats lol 😁😅😀🤣
Looking for advice on my six month olds gsd female. Yesterday I was walking her and we ran into our neighbors who she has seen several times and the woman went to pet her and she jumped back and barked. It was aggressive but it seemed like she was afraid. I’ve socialized her a lot and will continue to. But how should I handle that when it happens?
Have a new 3 month old gsd and seem to have this same issue...anyone small, like a 3 year old, or other dogs-will NOT stop barking, or it seems to be difficult to calm her down. Hard to tell at times if it’s uncontainable excitement or not because her bark is so intimidating !
Can you please tell us what collar you prefer now Lucy has reached three and trained beautifully my girl is almost three not as quick as your girl but not sure of what to use have the same problem walk my girl in the park a woman actually calls her a devil dog .I also live in a apartment she has never destroyed anything started her in her crate for two years I swear by exercise thanks for the chat
I'm worried the breeders around me wont sell me a pup because I rent an apartment.. I'm 25 and no where near a millionaire. I will most likely never buy a home where I live. Plus the houses they've been building the last 10 years dont have backyards..
I don't know if the fearful thing is necessarily a breed problem or more of a breeding problem. Showline breeders tend to focus more on looks even though I understand that West German show lines which is what Lucy is are much better than American show lines. However, a solid working line breeder will strive to never produce pups that are fearful like that. A Shepherd should always be courageous never fearful
Yeah, the discrimination with rental housing and insurance and whatnot against some dog breeds is depressing, with the contract describing dogs like German Shepherds, Rottweilers and Dobermans and Pitbulls as if they're demonic creatures, not dogs. And yet dogs are "man's best friends". What makes me sad is when I think of all these families with those dog breeds, if they unfortunately lose their home for some reason, they will probably have to get a rental which will reject their dog, and the family has to face the question of keeping a roof over their heads or giving up a member of the family. P.S Right as of now, my family lives in a rental situation where dogs aren't allowed, BUT they do allow kids who nearly start dangerous fires and shoot B.B bullets into our sunroom. So you can imagine that is 😡
German Shepherds are such family dogs and so friendly, if you put in the training and love
thats the same with all dogs though not just GSD.

People don’t understand that German Shepherds can be protective. There is a difference between aggression & protective.
Hey had a question. For how long is it ok to leave a gsd in a crate for if we leave the house for 4 - 6 hours is it ok?
Would you be ok with being in a crate for 4 to 6 hours?
So basically, the number one thing in all five things to know is "Training". Lots of "Training".
Iam fortunate Ive a House with a big back yard. But in reality if you spend lots of time with the Dog. You dont need a huge yard.
So Intelligence Lucy Dog..
