    Your breakdown of the other formulations at the end answered a question for me- I have problems with some emulsions splitting after a couple of weeks. My immersion blender doesn't fit into smaller containers, so I've been trying to make do with the mini mixer. Sounds like there's no substitute for the ib, so I'll have to track down a smaller one. Thanks for the demo and the thorough explanations!

    Im adding glyceryl stearate with my behentrimonium chloride and cetearyl alcohol based rinse off conditioner Its definitely thinning out the consistency of the end product.

    • @Dil-ka-music
      @Dil-ka-music 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just don't use glyceryl stearate. Not suitable for a conditioner base.

    • @miaramos8636
      @miaramos8636 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dil-ka-music lol It's a light weight conditioning ingredient that gives a silky, smooth feel when rubbed in. glyceryl stearate helps form a protective barrier on the hair to prevent moisture loss, and also fight free radical damage. Its literally in countless commercial conditioners. OGX nourishing coconut milk conditioner, Paul Mitchell tea tree lavender conditioner, among others use glyceryl stearate.

      @@miaramos8636 very sorry to have misread it. I thought you wer mentioning glycol monostearate. Once i happened to use EGMS to see if it imparts pearliness to my conditioner but infact it thinned out the end product too much and becomes thick only upon warming it up. I thought you wer doing the same. Anyways, just try increasing the %es of BTAC just a little. It should work. You could also try increasing cetearyl alcohol as well.

    This is brilliant, and super timely...I've just ordered some of this particular emulsifier to play around with!
    Also answered a few of the questions I'd had about Polawax. I've had my main formulation slowly split over 6 months, with the version with fragrance oil splitting faster than the unfragranced version...suspect a mixture of not enough shear (IB on lower speed because SPLASHYBOI), and potentially a slightly too high oil phase for the Polawax.
    I'm looking forward to mucking around with Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate - will be nice to have more control over consistency!

    Hello Miss Marie - I saw in the background, your book "Make It Up" which was published in 2016. I was reading through many of the reviews of the book on Amazobn. Clearly, the title of the book, "Make It Up" sounds like there will be a great emphasis on DIY makeup. Can you please tell me if there are a lot of body lotions and facial creams? Those are the items I love.. (or if anyone else has purchased Miss Marie's book, please let me know). The reviews of the book are lovely, just wondering if there are enough lotions and body butters in there. Thank you!!!

    • @heidicroucher

      I have her book. The recipes that aren't make up are mostly super simple beginner ones.... but it was from before she earned her formula Botanica degrees in skin and hair care. So, she has pretty much updated all of those recipes to have better products posted her on TH-cam since then. However, she had already pretty much nailed make up development back then. Meaning her book, in my opinion (is amazing and I'm still having fun with it) is mostly good for making make up.
      She has 1 lotion recipe. No body butters. And a good amount of basic skin care recipes (which she has here on TH-cam). BUT a TON of amazing useful information and tips about ALL of it. About making lotion, body butters, emulsions, and main ingredient individual information. Then there is an amazing amount of make up information and recipes that will change anyone's make up game.... including this gal! I'm the type of girl who has never really gotten into doing my own make up and most certainly didn't know how to do it well..... but her book WILL pull you in and change your mind!!!! TKB Trading got an unmentionable amount of money from me after I bought this book.
      Wow that was longer than I originally intended 😳!!!!! So, I sincerely hope it helped!

    I wanted to ask you about a video you did some time ago. I forget if it was a lotion or what but you had made a Essential oil blend that smelled like books or a library something along those lines. I remember being so happy because my daughter loves that smell and I put it on the back burner for another time. I just remembered it because I bought some candles on Etsy from Frostbeard Studio that smells like different book scenario. Do you remember that video? I think it was you. You are the most creative on here. Thank you. 😘

    Hey! I've never personally worked with Glyceryl Stearate (and) PEG-100 Stearate, but I think Ceteareth-20 would make a fairly good substitution. It is also an emulsifier that does not change the viscosity and is super light weight

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the idea! Where do you get yours? I don't _think_ I've seen it for sale in Canada 🤔

    • @e.a.4926
      @e.a.4926 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think Ceteareth 20 by itself is a complete emulsifer. It's really a surfactant. I use [Cetearyl Alcohol and Ceteareth 20] and it works well. It's not as thickening as other emulsifers (though definitely more thickening than Glyceryl Stearate and PEG 100 Stearate.) It creates stable, super white emulsions and feels quite weightless on the skin. I bought mine from Wholesale Supplies Plus and it's sold as Emulsifying Wax Soft and Silky.

    • @e.a.4926
      @e.a.4926 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Formulator Sample Shop sells it as Emulsifying Wax C20. Lotioncrafter says Ceteareth 20 creates stable emulsions *when combined with other emulsifers like Glyceryl Stearate.*

    So if I'm understanding this correctly, if i use glyc stearate and peg 100 instead of regular emuls wax nf, I'll need to add a thickener or else I risk it separating? Is that correct? I plan on using Creammaker Blend and similar mixes once they come in instead of emuls wax. So should I add xanthan gum to my formula? Or will it be OK?

    Hi, Humble, thanks for your sharing, do you have shop for those ingredients, pls send me a link

    • @HumblebeeAndMe
      @HumblebeeAndMe  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always link all the ingredients for any given formulation in the blog post, which is linked in the description box below the video (that's one of the many reasons I highly suggest reading the blog post as well as watching the video! If you're not sure what I mean by the "description box", read this: www.humblebeeandme.com/faqs/whats-the-description-box-on-youtube/.).
      Sometimes those links break because they're always off-site links, or sometimes the store I've linked to isn't in your country. That's why I also have a giant page of places to shop all over the world, which you can find here: www.humblebeeandme.com/resources/. It doesn't have every country in the world, but it does contain all the online stores I know about. If your country isn't listed, that's because I don't know about any online stores in your country. You could try looking for a local Facebook group for people who like making soap & other cosmetics-they may be able to recommend places to shop.
      And for some more discussion on ingredients, I recommend these FAQs:

    Ma'am,, have few queries, if you can reply please.
    1) Will more blending make the final outcome a bit more thicker ?
    2) If not, what modification (in the Formulation) can be done to make it a bit more thicker, in consistency ?
    3) If I want to add a few Extracts, what ingredients can I reduce ? And upto what percentage can I add Extracts?
    4) What would be the pH of the final product made using the percentage mentioned in the Description Box?
    Please Note : The ingredients mention in this Lotion are easily available in India (as the one's you mentioned in the comparison section - with another earlier prepared Lotion) and hence am keen to try out this one
