You have to understand that when this game came out it was like the heavens opened up and a whole new existence was just created. Before these games most were 2D sidescrollers so this was legendary when it was released.
Same with Luigi's mansion, it was a really high tech game that was honestly more advanced than it should have been, especially the moment it was released on the gamecube
going back and watching this today. it feels like your a parent watching your child playing the new game you bought them. it's just a nice feeling as you watch Jack just fool around and have a fun time playing around with the game.
I beg you to play this game again. The nostalgia, seeing you discover new things in the game, it fills me with so much joy and this was one of the most nostalgic 40 minutes of my life.
Honestly same!! Grew up with this game and was so nice to see him experience it the way we did when we were kids. Playing it now is still fun, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't have that spark it used to have when discovering new things the first time. He 10/10 should do a whole play through just for the shiggles

Before I even get to that part, I'm assuming it's the low poly model, which isn't actually a glitch at all. A lot of games do that to compromise for more environment polygons loading in. It's so the game doesn't slow down, which, of course, isn't really a problem on newer hardware. Now, it's just an interesting artifact.

No, it isn't. Sure, it isn't perfect but damn the amount of people complaining about bad camera controls are the ones who can't even bother fixing the camera themselves and expects all games to do it for them.
This was delightful to watch! I played this as a kid and would just spend time being in Jolly Roger Bay/Dire Dire Docks just for the music sometimes. I was very much into sharks at the time (I wanted to be an ichthyologist), so I would frequently just float at the beginning of Dire Dire Docks where two sharks swam peacefully around me. Sometimes I would make Mario swim side-by-side with them, and it would make me so happy. ^_^ Anyway, thanks for checking this out, and I hope you enjoyed playing it, Seán! :D

What a treat this is, honestly. Super glad you approached one of the great Holy Grails of Gaming, Jack! (I didn't play it either until I was almost 20, when it was re-released for one of the handheld Nintendo systems.)
I've played this game so much throughout my life that it's basically burned into my head at this point 😅. Watching Sean experience it for the first time was such a treat. 😊

I am one of the ones who grew up playing this game, I was 7 years old when I played this and I actually was so excited when I beat the final bowser boss. Now, you may be a lot older than 7 years old, but I know I for one and I'm sure many others want to see you beat it as well. It is worth finishing, so please come back to it! We'd love it.
My spouse taught our 2 year old to cuss after that ice slide. He nailed the run, including shortcut, got to the end with a triumphant, "And THAT'S how you do it!", and promptly steered Mario into the pit on the left 🤣 He dropped the loudest F bomb, and our toddler proceeded to repeat it for the next 20 minutes. Great times!

Love the video. Jack, if you ever pick this game up, a tip: if you tap A when in the water, you'll swim a lot faster than just holding it.
honestly, seeing Jack play Mario 64 makes me want to see how he'd react to Morrowind. I'd especially be curious how long it takes for him to learn the level-up system.
