Sorry Jeff, missed last weeks question on replay ability: When I was a teen, we replayed Risk, Clue, Monopoly, Poker and Euchre often. If the game has different ways/strategies to achieve a win and you and your friends/family enjoy the experience playing together, it has infinite replay ability.
QotW: one of my favourite gaming experiences ever was playing the legacy game Charterstone. My husband and I were new to the hobby, and it was the first legacy game we played. We were fascinated with opening the “crates”, adored the cuteness of the whole experience. We loved it so much, that after finishing it, we immediately bought the recharge pack and roped in my mother and sister into playing it again! Looking back, I now realize that this game certainly isn’t perfect. But it was perfect for us, and it opened a whole new world of modern board games for us. However this game does not get a lot of love from most, and I think we are in the minority for loving it. 😊
Hey Penny! I think you answered a Question of the Week from a few episodes ago! I'm glad you liked Charterstone though! We weren't thrilled with it as a 2-player game; I think it would have been better if we had played with all four players, but we did get through it, and I even kinda tweaked the rules a little to give us the best chance at experiencing everything the game had tucked away in those little boxes... :)
QotW - People care too much about rankings, hotness and BGG scores. So what if it's 5.9 on BGG and is ranked 11,319... It can still be an amazing game.
I like Monopoly and even defend it against haters. I know it's not a good game compared to my brain-burning euros, but in my 50 years I've played more Monopoly (mostly younger) than anything else. And had some incredible, memorable experiences with friends and family.
QotW: The box is just a container. I only care about what's inside. I keep various game/expansion boxes around because, if after bagging and sleeving a game, it doesn't fit back, I carve the box up and tape the front, 2 sides, and the back to a bigger box.
*fists raised...* :D I've used those in gaming before and I agree they work well, but I do prefer a custom - and ergonomically-considerate - tray that holds everything, as they drastically reduce setup and cleanup time, in my opinion! Now a tray without the finger "pulls" to help you remove the last piece in a stack, those infuriate me!!
Hi Chewie! I've got another video here on the channel about Ultimate Voyage you might want to watch - it gives more details about the game. It has a lot of rules for sure and it needs some polish which he's been working since this video. It definitely won't be for everyone but I think it's got potential! Cheers!
QoTW: While I enjoy Heat i still do not see the reason for the hype, and I don't see it being that much more enjoyable then some other older racing games. Like most other racing games they all tend to have a run away leader issue from time to time.
Star Trek Flamecraft? How cute! And it’s Star Trek! QotW: I do not like: Patchwork, 7 Wonders Duel, Catan or Castles of Burgundy. It’s not because I’m not smart enough to understand or appreciate the game, and It’s not because I’m relatively new to the hobby and need more experience. I just don’t like them. But I won’t say, “no” to a game of Exploding Kittens….So there. 😉
I am also 'relatively new to the hobby'. it seems to me that some games that have "universal" appeal among gamers take on appreciated attributes when more games are played. Maybe one of these days I will come to appreciate Catan. (i haven't played Castles of Burgundy yet, but is on my list to play on Board Games Arena.)
For QotW: I do not like Ryan Laukat's games (it seems). I have tried his two most popular ones (Near and Far and Sleeping Gods) several times and they did not gel with me. Near and Far just ends too early and Sleeping Gods is just too clunky in terms of rules. So now I am not motivated to try any of his other games unless someone brings his own game and teaches it. I am mentioning Ryan Laukat because his games generally get positive reviews (also on the Dice Tower).
Have you EVER noticed that most of the time I make the border of your comments the same gradient of your TH-cam avatar...? :) That has nothing to do with QOTW, but I thought I'd share as I'm plunking your comment into episode 32 right now... :)
We have a decent gaming community around here - I don't know everyone, but we're only a few degrees of separation apart. So I tend to operate comfortably within our local social media groups.
OMG! I love the Flamecraft Star Trek print. So cute!

That's pretty true - a game can have the same components every time but still have different paths to victory!
What? no Stratego?! 🙂
QotW - just because a game is sold in a general store (WalMart, etc) doesn't mean it is a bad game or not worthy of "real gamers".

Ooooooh here's the conflict I was waiting for!!! Hahah! #triggered... (Haha just kidding!)
QotW: The best token holders during gameplay are silicone baking cups. No customized tray/bin surpasses them.

really want to get andromeda's edge some day
Man I dunno - I've played it twice lately, and I'm really disappointed with it, so far... It's incredibly fiddly... You'll hear more about it soon!
Came here courtesy of the Ultimate Voyages KS campaign. Lots of rules... oof. Hopefully your suggestions are heard by the designer.

QotW - there are some board game content creators that seem to wield too much power (influence?) within the hobby.

You invited a random person off the Internet to your house???
