    I bought a 10" Dobsonian a couple of months ago and my first purchase for eyepieces was that exact set from SVBony . I'm no expert but I'm loving them . I'm 62 and this is my first telescope :)

      You ought to try some proper wide field eyepieces in your Dobsonian. An 82 degree eyepiece will give you the space walk feel

      Hi Nodders, I also got the set and would say that 20mm and 15mm are quite good for the price but 9mm and 6mm suffer kidney-beaning. Do you notice the same?

      @@gonguereguere2404 I have a 6mm eyepiece from this series and along with my 12" Dobsonian it is simply outstanding. As for the kidney effect, yes you are right, it does suffer from it. That's why I fitted the eyepiece with a "special eyecups" to prevent my eye from deviating and to keep it fixed at the right distance and position.

    I have a SVbony 2 inch, 26mm, FOV 70 and it is a great general eyepiece. It is my go-to eyepieces and I only paid around 70 USD. I will definitely buy more SVbony eyepieces in the future.

    Thanks for the review, I got the 6mm uw as my first eyepiece and it has been a dream with my short scope. Its perfect for the moon and planets without having to use a barlow. although using a barlow to look at the moon with that eyepiece was an AWEsome experience since I could see the shapes of the shadows of the mountains so clearly, it was very beautiful

    I have just bought the 66 degree gold band one, in 15mm guise.
    It's significantly cheaper than the red band, and is only 1mm better for eye distance, and I watched a in dept video and he said he could not tell any diffrence between the 66 degree gold band and the 68 degree red band.

  • @Astronurd

    These are decent eyepieces and they are nice and clear to look through. The FOV was measured to be around 65 degrees which is still very good. My only complaint is that they suffer from kidney beaning. Some focal lengths more than others. All in all they are a very good step up from the eyepieces supplied with most telescopes. Another great video Jason 👍

    Managed to get a stunning crisp view of the moon with one of these. Truly impressed given the price.
    Was a little disappointed with colour aberration around the edges of the moon, and I was completely disappointed when viewing stars as I couldn't get any to focus.
    That said, I was using a large scope where such issues could have been more pronounced. Mightn't be too bad with smaller optics.
    Definitely worth a try for the price point.

    What would be *super* helpful is a direct comparison between this and the gold ring 66° UW (Orion Expanse), as they're comparable price and specs. I need to find an affordable long relief low power piece for a f5 scope. As far as Ive found, no one has really done a good review on either the 66° or Expanse pieces. Theres one decent review of the 66° under the TS Optics brand, but still, it's basically the guy just saying its good.

    I picked up a free Dobsonian recently. Everything complete but was way out of collimation, the reason I believe it was free. The original eyepieces were also very cheap plastic. I bought the SVbony 6, 9, 15 & 20mm set and a 2x Barlow. I'm a total novice but the viewing to me is fantastic with these eyepieces. The eyepiece set cost $40 US on Amazon. The Barlow was $18 US

    This is an excellent recommendation, thanks for the review Jason. Very helpful. I was unsure about how much I should spend on an affordable first eyepiece upgrade or what viewing characteristics I would even like. I had the stock achromats included with my Heritage 130p scope. After watching your review it seemed like a no-brainer and I got the Svbony UW 15mm for AU$55 (US$38) to try it. Straight away it's a winner. Quality metal construction, nice wide lens and expansive field of view, sharp at the centre with great contrast. Stars do gradually get blurred towards the edges but the wide field of view means that it's hardly bothersome (worth mentioning the achromats also suffer some blurring too). Overall it's terrific. And now the 20mm is on sale from Svbony themselves for AU$48 (US$33.50) which is.....ridiculously good value, for what you're getting.

    I agree with you astronomy.etc can get expensive especially astrophotography. Now and then you can get a bargain especially second hand. I recently bought the Huawei p40pro second hand and wow its bloody awesome for astrophotography.
    I hope you do another video when you get more of them and show how good they are as better eyepieces than your standard ones you get when starting out!

    Hi Jason, been watching your videos for a few weeks now, should have done this a while ago. Had 2 scopes I haven't used for some years, pulled them out again and checked out the last full moon we just had, So much enjoyed it but just wasn't good enough. Since watching your videos, I have learned a lot and thrive to be better at checking out the skies. I just purchased this UW lens and also the variable filter from your other video for the brightness of the moon. I'm like you, I don't want to see a green moon, but a nice, natural looking one. Can wait for the next full moon to check on the new filter and get better images. Keep up the nice work, love the videos! next venture is a camera for the scope. Take care

    Hi Jason been a while I have all 4 got them for £120 it was a good year or so ago and all of them r very good (for the money) however the 9/6mm r not as good as the 15/20mm the 6mm especially, but still a lot better then the standard eyepiece that come with a telescope, I moved on from the svbony to the baader hyperion/ morpheus and there's a difference in what u c its not massive but its definitely there, especially in the deep sky objects, however Id still recommend the svbony as a good starter set, to find what mm works best in ur telescope as there is allways one that gets used more. don't be put off by what iv put in getting the svbony, I'm comparing them to very good eyepiece that cost the same/more for 1 that u get 4 svbony for, and under your sky there may not be any difference depending on the light pollution,I found that the biggest factor in scope or eyepieces is light pollution I have a 10inch and it's fantastic in my very dark skies, however in my brothers garden just more unwanted light and that is not good for the scope or eyepieces 🤣🤷

The lower powered plossl's you have will work great with a barlow and will also double your eyepiece collection with one purchase 😃

    Does a wider angle give the same view as a low power with a lesser angle? So does a 20mm with 68 fov give the same kind of observation as a 25mm with a 50 fov?

    • @1DesertPirate
      @1DesertPirate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Roughly speaking, first find the magnification of a given eyepiece with a given telescope by dividing the focal length of the telescope by the focal length of the eyepiece. For example, a 1000mm telescope objective using a 20mm eyepiece will produce a magnification of 50X. Now take the apparent field of view of the eyepiece and divide it by the magnification and that will give you the true field of view. So, with the SV bony 20mm UW field eyepiece with the 68º apparent field of view, the true field one will see in the sky through the 1000mm scope would be 68/50 or roughly 1.36º. The 25mm eyepiece in your question would produce 40X on the 1000mm telescope, and with the 50º field of view eyepiece, the true field of view would be 50/40 = 1.25º.

    I have several eyepieces SVBony from the 66° UW-line. I can absolutely recommend the 20mm, 15mm and 9mm - these eyepieces are simply gorgeous for it's price. Even on a telescope with f/5, they show a very good and sharp picture! 😎👌🔭 But the 6mm eyepiece is just terrible, unfortunately 😒 It gives such a disgusting picture that I immediately sold it. And then I heard the same thing about it from many astronomers I knew. I don’t know what’s wrong with it, but the picture through 9mm with a rather cheap 2x Barlow lens even better than just through this 6mm 🙄🤷‍♂

      The 66° svbony with the yellow band, is the Orion Expanse. I dont have any, but of the eps Ive examined, Ive found the difference between the Svbony and Orion/Sirius is that the Orions have one or two elements edge blackened (usually the field lens and usually poorly) and the Svbony have none. That said, I was surprised to find my Celestron X Cel had only one edge blackened element. A sharpie job on it, made a noticeable difference.

    Pairing the 6mm with the small svbony 0.5x focal reducer on a f4 reflector reduce the "scope induced" astigmatism. It is no longer a 6mm EP, rather a 8mm one but the quality of the off-axis really improved on a f4 reflector.
    Of the redline serie the 6mm is the only one having this behaviour .
    The pair (6mm+0,5x) can also be barlowed without loosing quality.
    Flocking the inside is also improving the quality of the EP.
    Great on Moon and planets.
    Worth a try

    Ive wanted to try these. I don't know about these, but their gold banded 'ultra wide' are the same piece as the Orion Expanse. I dont know if Svbony is the actual maker, or if they source them, but a lot of their stuff is the same OEM as Orion/Sirius. Their plain black plossl is a Sirius Plossl.

    I just bought a couple of these and I'm gonna try em through the baader bino viewer on my second telescope, which is a 1200m, 8" dob. Can't wait to see how it looks.

    Good content again Jason, was looking for candidates for my binoviewers, these looks promising, bit worried about vignetting though, because of binos 18mm clear aperture.
    Cheers

    Great video. I have the basic 10mm abd 25mm that came with my celestron 114mm. They seem cheap especially when compared to my meade plosser 9.7mm and 25mm. I think ill try this piece based on your recommendation. Thank you

    Pretty sure my 6mm is one of these, but the branding is different. Got them at the recommendation of people online.
    Tbh, I could do with a better 20mm. But I do like how all my eyepieces feel different, as it makes it very easy to feel which is which in the dark

    I'm a beginner with a new Orion 6 inch Dobsonian. I brought this full red line SVBONY set with and the SVBONY 21-7 mm zoom eyepiece to replace the 2 eyepieces that came with my scope. The wide field of view is exceptional. The clarity and light penetration is far superior to the included eye pieces. I never tried Televue or any of the other high end eyepieces but I must say that I am very pleased with these SVBONY eyepieces. The zoom eyepiece does not have the field of view that I need for searching the deep sky objects but was great for the moon and planets. Also, I like the Zoom for attaching to my cell in order to have multiple magnification options without having to detach the phone from the adaptor. I just wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks for the great videos.

    At least I know how to say SVbony now! Hungarian? Although they seem to be made in the PRC? That's not a bad price and I was expecting you to say around £100.

    well, due to the fact that the eye can see better, though only if the camera is bad. I shoot through these eyepieces on the camera of the xiaomi redmi not 10 phone, by serial shooting, or in video mode, in order to fix the details that the atmosphere blurs. and then, as a result of processing, it is possible to pull out details that are absolutely invisible to the eye. so you're wrong.

    • @tadassiksnius3402
      @tadassiksnius3402 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah ok, so you do stacking, made it sound very very exceptional though 👏 😀 . I'm positive that what Jason referred to, was the fact that no photo will ever recreate the actual view. And yes, you can get rid of atmospheric turbulence with stacking, sharpen with registax wavelets. In DSO AP you can get pull more stars in with longer exposures, higher iso, get rid of noise too etc etc, nonetheless it will still be a 📸
      However if your Huawei suddenly got update with better DR ( dynamic range ) than human eye, I'll be getting one myself 😆😆

    • @smalloptics753
      @smalloptics753  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not much in it really.. With lower powered eyepieces it's more forgiving in the overall visual quality test but the UW is the winner of the two but only by a little .
