People did say “this is America”to me one time. It was super early in the morning, around 5AM, my husband and I were ordering 50 meals at a drive through for a group of tourists( we were tour guide). I am shortsighted so I can’t see the menu from the passenger seat. So I had to step out of the car to stand next to the menu to make the order. Meanwhile, a Mercedes E class came while we were still making the order. maybe 20 secs later, the guy from the passenger side got fed up, walked out, approached to us very aggressively, “ do you all need translation or some?” “You better make it quick.” “This is America.” we choose not to engage to avoid escalation, finished our order and moved to the parking lot instead of the next window because we didn’t want the gentleman behind us to wait the staff to make 50 meals . Unfortunately, they misunderstood our attention, they thought we were fobs and had no idea we should pick up the food at the next window. guy from the passenger side yelled at us saying “yo, you pick up your food here while you stay in your car, you don’t go to the parking lot and walk to here, this is called a drive through.” Then they made that nasty laughs again and took off. Definitely an unpleasant experience.
