Beautiful! When I was about 10 years old my Dad gave me the books Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Since then I always wanted to run away from home, go to Missouri, build a raft and float down the Mississippi river! Im 50 now and still want to do it! When I was a kid I built a raft (about 5"x8") in our catfish pond at home in east Texas and spent many happy summer days on it for several years.
george madis I am 40 years old and live in South Africa. I loved the two Mark Twain books about Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer. I used to pretend that the swimming pool was the great Mississippi river in America. How I loved those stories and I'm a girl living so far away!
I'm 63 and read those books as a lad too. Made my little raft and paddled it around on the lake I grew up near. When you get ready to run the Missouri gimme a shout, I'll go ...
Well, it's still not too late: "... Any river, big or small, just being there, is a permanent invitation to a man (I could add" especially to an ungrown one ", but that would be a redundant statement ) to get some wood and nails, build a raft and explore it.If you grew up with Mark Twain books, this idea stays in the back of your mind pretty much throughout your life.If you do not need to google terms like Kon-Tiki or Deliverance, and consider endeavors like those cool, you know very well what I am talking about without further explanation. Once you realize that common excuses (job, career, kids, etc.) are exactly just that, excuses, you only need to pick a river, find a few oddballs who also think this is a great idea and start gathering wood - it is that simple...." Intro from "Searching for Huck in Balkans" :)
My best friend Jenny is from Sweden. She came to America when she was 14 and her mother died. She is like a daughter to me. She went back 2 years ago to get her visa renewed and she is still stuck there. Swedish people are the kindest people ever! Love the beauty, the colors, the attention to intricate details... everything about this was a wonderful adventure. Thank you for making this video and sharing it with the world! I wish it could've been longer!
I couldn't agree more with your comment. Makes you wonder how the vast majority of us, human-beings, are either distracted by useless, futile stuff or have somehow our priorities misplaced. I've also found this video by chance but I was searching for wooden raft build videos. The chance element refers to the fact that this video popped up on top of the million possibilities. Can you immagine how much beautiful stuff we are missing out on due to random chance?
I came here because I am building a small Contiki raft for fishing, to film for my own youtube channel. However, I can not compete with this. This is just sensational. Well done. LIKED!
Building a large raft like this reminded me of the stories I read as a boy about Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn written by Mark Twain/Sam Clemens. Thank you for the calming effect it had on me.
Excellent story told without words. I could imagine myself on that raft. I can't understand why anyone would give this relaxing story a thumbs down? Some people just can't understand.
Uau... This is the real good life. Enjoying nature and friends. I'm so envious of you guys. Need to start making some changes in my life before it's too late. Inspiring video, lovely music, wonderful footage and exquisite nature. Pure cinematic pleasure. Thank you so much for sharing and inspiring me. Peace and good wishes to you and your family.
My childhood dream come to life. I was a badly abused, undiagnosed autist. My lovely Dad read me Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer when I was 7ish. I read them over and over again and went there in my mind as an escape. I fantasized about running away to the woods and rivers, to float peacefully down a river on a raft, pipe clenched in teeth, feet bare and dirty. Someday, I will.
I live right by Klarälven and I have to say; your video is one of the most beautiful expressions of what the river can be I have ever seen. Great work and I hope you had a wonderful time floating by!
myself and a buddy took off on a innertube for 3 days on the Sioux river back in 78 . we both just turned 16 , we had a truck tube you couldn't put your feet over the side it was so massive but 3 days with pump 22 pellet rifles food , beer and all things survival what fun . 16 miles on a river to go 5 miles to next town took us all 3 days it was big Sioux river the angry snake in Sioux language . Ill never forget !
An absolutely delicious video that, without any words, explains everything about the beauty of adventure, the water, good company, and simple travel. Thanks for posting and I've subscribed.
