I honestly don’t get what the big deal about taking shoes off at other people’s houses. I think it’s just an American thing. Here in Canada we take our shoes off out of respect.
My adult kids and grandson automatically take off their shoes when they come in my house but they do the same in their own houses. I would never ask anyone visiting to remove their shoes. I do say when I hear a knock at the door " NOW who the hell is here?" but I thought that was bc I'm old and cranky lol :o)
